Exactly. In the few drafts I've played - a lot of the fun is hoping your sleeper pick stays under the radar for a later round and it would be entirely a bummer if somebody chimed in and mentioned a pick you might have a little ways down your draft board... prompting somebody else to take it.

In this case, the song mentioned was released in 1968 and is not eligible for the draft, so I would imagine no harm, no foul. The point is well taken, though.

O.K. I guess I'm up. I did a little digging and I think I'm gonna start my list off with a bang! (bang!, bang!..)

I'm drafting this little number more for it's historical significance. It is an important component of the east coast - west coast rap feud that snuffed out the bright stars of Biggie and Tupac. Ice Cube really, really didn't like this guy. In this song he basically tells every gangster rapper that they are quickly turning rap from a young hottie into a total butterface, metaphorically speaking. H.E.R. is thought to be an acronym for Hearing every rhyme:

This is quickly becoming more and more complicated.

First, if the song isn't family friendly, DO NOT post a link to a YouTube version of it.

Second, I need you to post the decade it's part of.

Third, I've received a couple of questions from people who are having trouble getting to a certain page of allmusic.com that shows the chronology of some songs. If you cannot find a page at allmusic.com, you need to find something else that will verify to which decade the song belongs...this is only necessary to make sure people fulfill the decade requirements of the draft.

Hope that doesn't make it any more difficult.
 
okay, all better. I actually believe the video was graphically alright, but the song (like all rap songs), is not something you would let your kids listen to.

Wow. I'm back on the island. Awesome! I got a bit sick of the songs I had on my IPOD all year, so now I can finally grab some songs that I wished I had with me last year. Can't go wrong with 8 minutes of hard classic rock! With my 1st choice, I select:

Let it Be - The Beatles (1970)

was able to sneak a glance at email and I'm up!

For my first pick: "Let it Be" by The Beatles from the 1970 album of the same name.

There's 21 pages of allmusic results for "Let it Be" and I'm crunched for time. Does anyone question that the song/album came out in 1970?

Nice pick. Daring for your #1 choice, but I like it. Hopefully when I start looking for some hip hop additions later on you won't have cleaned up everything already ;)
 
As an amendment to the rules, I'll take Wikipedia listings for release date information as it seems allmusic.com can get very convoluted at times. :)

The 90's looks to be a tough decade for me - harder still now that somebody has already take Creep (which I had my heart set on so kudos)... so I guess I gotta get while the getting is good for this decade. While not necessarily so for their real hardcore fans, for most of the world this is the quintessential song for this great band who were key in evolving the popular heavy metal genre. Heavier, crunchier, riffier than what had gone before. Proud to have it as my first choice.

I had to go with the BPA principle here. Even if it wouldn't normally be my first overall pick, even if it's now often regarded as overrated, I don't see how I can pass up Led Zeppelin's Stairway To Heaven, released November 8th, 1971.

You all know the song, but here's a video anyway...

I didn't notice it being explicitly stated in the rules but, since I like to handicap myself in these things, I'm going to try and avoid picking anything I took in last year's iPod draft. I shall start my playlist with a song that just missed the cut last year:

However, since I couldn't find a link on youtube of satisfactory quality, and was not willing to subject anyone else to the inferior versions I did find, there will, sadly, be no youtube link to this song. But, the way I see it, anybody who's never heard The Payback before probably wasn't going to vote for me, anyway, so it is what it is...
