Signs - Tesla - 90's

How about some love for our local boys! A few years ago I went to hear some local band I was into called Plate at The Boardwalk, and the main act was a band called "Bar 7". I had no idea, but I heard this was a project with Jeff Keith and Tommy Skeoch of Tesla. Cool right?

So while we're waiting around between sets for this headline act to play, a buzz starts floating around the room. "dude, man I hear Frank is going to show up and play with the band". "no BS man, it's true.. Tesla is totally gonna jam tonight"... etc

Sure enough, Frank Hannon shows up on stage - to deliver the most awesome show I've ever seen in a dive bar! When they kicked into this number I thought I'd died and gone to heaven...

Cool guys. Sactown's finest.

With hometown rockers Tesla breaking into the draft, I'd better hurry up and draft my favorite song by a local act (or at least a local act that anybody really knows about). Cake's Frank Sinatra (released in 1997) has it all: the funky organ, the solid beat, the trademark Cake guitar twang, and of course Vince's trumpet.

Apparently, Cake even made their own video for the song, which I did not know.

Well, I'm undecided on my eighth seventies song, so I'm going to hold off on that, until I can make up my mind. In the meantime, I'll move on to the eighties, starting with a favorite from my childhood:

Nice one! I think that's definitely one of their more underrated tracks out there.

If someone lets their clock run out they ought to go a short leash for the rest of the draft - like two hours for all subsequent turns. Ah if only I was the guy with the bat muhahahaha

sorry for timing out, i'll be back on monday on a regular schedule. if you want to dock my time to one or two hours going forward, go for it.

cranberries - linger (90s)

plus, i didn't emai anyone my picks because, well, i don't have one. i'm just going randomly.

Okay, complete change of direction here. Not something that should be expected of my list, but I'm climbing out of my box for the next few picks.

Every time I hear this song I pick up the nearest inanimate object and raise it above my head in romantic effigy. If I'm at home I lift my stereo and call my wife into the room (she thinks it's cute, I think I'm just an 80's movie nerd.) Plus you guys are eyeballing it, I can see you:cool:

In Your Eyes - Peter Gabriel (1986)

(will add music when I get off work way later today).

Just general steam spouting I'm sure. I'm glad you did time out, I had no idea what to take until I noticed a prevailing trend a moment ago.

I would have no problem with that IF the person had been totally AWOL. I - the "guy with the bat" for this draft - know where Jerryaki is. He's vacationing in Switzerland with family ... and he's done a remarkable job of keeping up with his drafts. I'm not going to penalize him for the rest of the draft.

I am glad that Fransisco is done with the 90's. One less person to worry about taking my kind of music. This is a beautiful song and my IPOD would not be complete without it. I am glad it is still here.

Counting Crows- A long December (90's)

thanks for keeping track, VF, appreciate it.

i didn't realize that people were so super serious about this draft, i thought it was just to pass the time until the season starts...

Though this was not on my list, this is a great song! Really sounds sad the way he sings it. Great pick.

In Your Eyes - Peter Gabriel (1986)
Youssou N'Dour is featured on this song and has a little vocal solo at the end. He is one of the greatest vocalists in the world. He puts on an absolutely incredible show. I have seen him several times. I saw a show at the Oakland Colosseum with Youssou opening then Tracy Chapman then Peter Gabriel and then Bruce Springstein headlining, some kind of benefit(?). Peter played this song as his finale and Youssou sat in - Saweeeet!

ok sorry. I was half-kidding, half annoyed. maybe more like 35/65. But anyway it is evidently something one has to get used to.

I've only done a couple drafts and the others were a much shorter nature (6 rounders) so I apologize... I'm used to sprints not marathons I suppose. I'll adapt.
