Does it matter?Who does Dallas start at PF?
I wouldn't, if only because they are going absolutely crazy salivating over Oden here right now. Sure he's a total unknown and theoretically could be a complete bust but everyone's talking about the Blazers now and their ticket sales should be set for the next 3 seasons. The Blazers aren't ready to win now but they are stockpiled with high quality young talent that can grow together. Plus if he does pan out and has a long, healthy career its not already half over like Dirk's.However, if I were Portland, I would drive Oden to the airport and hand him over (plus scrubs to make salaries fit) to Dallas to get my hands on Dirk.

Yep. Easily.
If I'm Portland? Not a chance in hell.
Should probably add the disclaimer that I have completely irrational and unjustifiable dislike for Dirk Nowitzki, which probably taints my contribution to the thread.
Building around Oden would take rebuilding and bringing in new shooters / younger players and it would take a couple of years for them to be contenders. I don't understand why Dallas would go for that since they are already there now. Besides, everyone is switching to small ball and I'm not so sure about Oden's mobility and how he will adjust in the NBA. It's a risk, and an unnecessary one , if you're the Mavericks.

Yeah, my vote is neither team should do it.
I don't do it if I'm EITHER team.
a) Dirk is not going to make Portland "win now" to the degree to make it worth it (although two radically different 24-10 PFs on one team would be interesting). Nor are they trying to "win now". Keep Oden and you don't have to squint very hard to see them having a chance to own the West within 5 years, and for a long time therafter. If I was a fan of theirs I would be more than a little pissed if they suddenly lost their cahones and bailed out for a crowd pleasing parlor trick.
b) Dallas's collapse ruined a 67 win season. But it was still a 67 win season. I do not know if they can recover or not, but they are still sitting right in the middle of a true contention window. Those do not come around too often, and you get get one, you better hold it open for as long as possible. To bail on contending to go into rebuilding mode, presumably around Oden, Howard and maybe Harris would be passing up a golden opportunity that you wait decades to get.

This thread is really stupid. Why would anybody trade a guy like Oden, who could be the face of a franchise for years to come, for some choker like nowitzki who has maybe 5 more good years.
Well maybe I is really stupid -
but here is my logic on why I would do it if I were Portland.
Oden is analogous to the super hot girl that you have just seen on campus. You know the one. The one that takes your breath away and you think to yourself 'I have got to make her mine.' However, you really do not know much about her other than she takes your breath away. She has flaws. You just do not know what they are. Maybe she cannot hold an intelligent conversation. Maybe she lives like a pig. Maybe her family is crazy. She may be just plain h*** to live with.
Dirk is the hot girl who you know. Yeah, she has flaws. Maybe she has disappointed you. But that cannot change that she is beautiful and is a really great person to boot. You could have a great life with her. She may even give you everything you have dreamed.
And maybe, just maybe, the first girl (Oden) is not only super hot, but she is also really smart, clean, comes from a great family and is perfect in every way. She is, in fact, the perfect catch that every man dreams of. However, she may be so great that some other guy comes along who is better looking and has more money and she leaves you for him at first chance.

Did you even read the original post, or are you just referring to a couple of the responses? The OP specifically states to ignore whether Portland would deal Oden for Nowitzki. This thread is really stupid.
