I live in the OC and close to Anaheim...

I have EVERY RIGHT to hate a team based on them leaving. The Kings are Sacramento's team.. You expect people to be happy they are leaving? As someone not even in Sac you don't know how people feel here except for maybe this forum and what you see on TV. It goes much much deeper than that..

Again.. The Bengal analogy. I don't expect you of all people to understand. I for one wouldn't go into a hornets nest at go-bengals.com and tell them that their team will be great in Sacramento because I want them to be here, and that I like them. That's incredibly rude to do so and it's incredibly rude for you to think you understand how each one of us feels.

Let us be pissed.. We are losing something VERY dear to all of us. Don't sit back in OC and tell us we need to understand, or that YOU understand how we feel. And I don't care about Howard Schultz. I care about the tons of Kings fans here in Sac that don't want the Kings to leave and that are pissed off at both the Maloofs, and the local govt for dragging their feet..

As for myself I had been a season ticket holder from 2003 to 2007 and my family was from 1990 to 2009.

Abd how could you say "Don't get pissed at me because I think you're being unfair in your insistence that nothing matters except that they stay."?????

How about stop arguing with the people that are pissed off and telling them they ar being unfair? WE ARE LOSING OUR TEAM.. YOU ARE NOT.
1) You have the right to hate whoever/whatever you want. I'm just saying I don't understand it, and I don't think it's fair.

2) The Kings are the Maloofs team, technically, which is why they can move them. I understand the connection between the community and the team. But ownership goes both ways. If the city of Sacramento wants to claim ownership of the team, they need to give them a place to play.

3) I don't expect anyone to be happy they are leaving. In your anger, you aren't understanding me. First of all, I am NOT the OP who came in saying that we'd take great care of the Kings. I am the one saying that I don't want them to leave because it would suck for Sacramento, even though I live and work within 20 minutes of the Honda Center. I don't care. They need to stay. I hope they stay.

4) The entire point of all my posts has been that I don't understand how you feel. I am not pretending that I do.

5) Again, I think the Kings should stay. I'm just saying that there's a difference between Schultz selling Seattle out and the Maloofs feeling forced into a move. If they were to sell the team to Samueli, then I wouldn't blame you. But they've been working on an arena for years. They obviously want to stay. You saying you don't care about Schultz while at the same time pushing a hypothetical Bengals analogy that has zero relevance is backward. I'm just pointing out the difference between ownership that doesn't give a damn about the community (Schultz) and ownership that clearly does (Maloofs). For all their mistakes, they very obviously want to get a deal done in Sacramento. You give them no credit for that.

6) Since 2008, the Kings have had the worst attendance in the NBA, percentage-wise. Whatever prompted you to give up your season tickets in 2007, I'm sure you didn't want to. And I would bet that you still go to games now and then, and if money grew on trees, you'd probably be at even more games. And the product hasn't been very good since then, and it probably wouldn't matter. But you say the Kings are Sacramento's team, and they really should be, but 77.3% attendance over four seasons makes an ownership group wonder. The Maloofs deserve a lot of blame -- maybe all of it -- for the poor product for several seasons now. But they get outdrawn by virtually every team in the NBA, including the Clippers, who everyone knows are never going to be good. That's a factor as well.

7) Being pissed off is one thing. I can even get pissed for you. But this divisive "you're not a local, you don't know anything" attitude is garbage. I'm a fan just like you are, regardless where I live. Like I said before, we're on the same side.

8) What I think is unfair is that, even though Sacramento has to this point been unwilling/unable to get an arena deal done with the Kings, and even if it looks like there will never be a deal, you don't care. If they move, they're dead to you. I understand being mad, but again, what are they supposed to do? Just continue to play in one of the most outdated arenas in the league? And keep losing money in the process? That's what's not fair. I think what would be fair would be to acknowledge the legitimacy of why they are considering moving, rather than just lumping them in with every other sports team that's ever changed cities.

I don't mean to argue, or to make it worse. I'm not the OP, remember that. All I'm saying is that I don't get why, with the present circumstances, the Kings would be hated by Sacramento natives, if they were to move. Again, under the present circumstances, because I think they're relevant.

It feels like a bad divorce.. That's why I hold animocity. It feels like I am losing something I have put my heart and soul into for 20+ years. Don't get me wrong, I am pissed at the city too for not doing more, and I have posted that I would boycott any arena that the city built after the fact (if the Kings leave).

Think about it this way. If the Kings dissolved and all the players went to different teams would you be upset? It's basically what it feels like for a lot of us in Sac right now. Don't know how else to explain it. The Kings will still be there but they won't be called the Kings and they wont be OUR Kings anymore.

2) The Kings are the Maloofs team, technically, which is why they can move them. I understand the connection between the community and the team. But ownership goes both ways. If the city of Sacramento wants to claim ownership of the team, they need to give them a place to play.

To this all I have to say is go to a disaster zone (after an earthquake, flood or tornado) and tell the people that just lost their house "Well... It's not TECHNICALLY YOUR HOUSE, the bank still owns it."

Tell me what kind of reaction you get =/

To answer your #7 question, what do you think? E-C-O-N-O-M-Y... That plus a crappy team that was tossed together. I still went to games just not every game. The Kings got to give some effort in order for me to want to watch them. They haven't in a while.. That plus the economy. Why shell out a few thousand for something that wasn't watchable in a down economy? The Kings aren't losing money anyway.

What was unbelievably classless, was a dude that showed up last night jumping around with a "Welcome to Anaheim" sign. He was soundly booed every time and a fan told him off. What a low-class jerk!

Welcome the team to Anaheim in your own da*n arena, when you actually have them in Anaheim. Don't come into our house and celebrate the Sacramento fans' loss. It hurt like he**. Thank goodness an usher came. I think he asked for the sign and when the guy wouldn't give it up he was escorted out, but I don't know for sure. I just cheered him being shown the door.

Coming in here and doing what you are doing is awful too. I have taken enough psycology classes to know what's going on here. You and your "royals" avatar. Subtle but obvious at the same time.

BTW I was a Laker fan before the Kings moved to Sac, and I will be a Laker fan after the Kings leave Sac. I will hold more of a grudge towards the ownership of the Kings than I ever could have for the Lakers.

The Best advice I could give to someone like you.. Ex Boyfriends (Sacramento) don't like being called up by the new boyfriend (Anaheim) and told that you will take care of them and that you have a good home for them ect ect in the midst of all what's going on. Leave us alone and let us vent. All you are doing is pissing people off. No matter what your intentions were.
Wow. Well first off, I'm pretty sure we've never dated the same girl. Secondly, no one is forcing you to reply to this thread.

Oh, a mention has been made on the radio that MLB may block the use of the team name "Royals." A few years ago they stopped allowing Little League teams to use MLB team names, unless they pay MLB for it. Wow!

That is comedy gold.

Then why not be a dear and change that royals avatar. People thought the "here we stay" game jerseys were incredibly rude. If you lived in Sacramento you would have known that.
Changed. Sorry, all arguing aside though, I think most Sacramento fans have always liked the throwback jerseys. Now they kinda bring up thoughts of the move though.

Just curious: What if they left, Sacramento built an arena, and they came back? Highly unlikely, but that would probably be like a fairy tale ending for Sacramento fans.

I understand being bitter about it.

My ties are not to Sacramento, so I'm not in your shoes. And it's not because I think the city deserves a team, or anything like that. It's a matter of principle, but it goes two ways. I think the city council and community leaders should have been and should continue to bust their humps to get an arena deal secured, because that's what cities do to keep their teams. And when that happens, teams sign 30 year leases to stay. And then you have a shiny new arena that the city can hold 200 non-Kings events in. It's part of sports.

By the way, I'm a Colts fan. I would have been thrilled if they had decided to leave Indy and came out to LA, had an arena built, and set roots here for the next three decades. But it would have sucked for Indianapolis and the fans there. And that city -- a cowtown, but one that knows how to get business done -- recognized that, got a deal done, gave the team a sweetheart lease, and now the fans have their team. All sides gave a little bit. Irsay put up millions of his own cash. The city is leasing the stadium to the Colts for far less than market value. The economy sucks, people are getting laid off ... and still, Lucas Oil Stadium welcomes 60,000 fans who scream their heads off every week, win, lose or draw. And that's the way it should be.

I hope that's what the city of Sacramento gets. But they have work to do.

I'm the OP and I still don't see what was rude about what I said. No one forced anyone to participate in this thread. I've stated NUMEROUS times that I want the Kings to stay in Sacramento. I just said that if they come down here they will do well. Sheesh.

I didn't call what you said rude. I'm just making sure Gary understands that you and I aren't saying the same thing.

We're not really saying much different things either though.

1) I want the Kings to stay in Sacramento.

2) I've lived in the Sacramento area for four years of my life so I DO understand the relationship the fans have with the city.

3) I went to as many Kings games as I could as a college student.

4) I will always be a fan of the Kings even if they move to North Korea.

5) My point in the OP was that they would be successful if they moved to the OC.

I understand what you're saying. I'm just saying that ownership goes both ways. You want to call them your team, it's gonna take some more support for that claim to really be legitimate. And that includes a new arena. No one can deny that a new arena is an absolute necessity.

To answer your #7 question, what do you think? E-C-O-N-O-M-Y... That plus a crappy team that was tossed together. I still went to games just not every game. Of course. But there were a bunch of teams that were bad throughout the heart of the recession, and still did better attendance than the Kings. The Pistons have been bad and still done good attendance.

I'm pretty damn pissed that I threw thousands of dollars at a team that in the end turned its back on me. I have never been married (and boy am I glad) but I feel like I am going through a nasty divorce.
The Kings are NOT Sacramento's team. They are Maloofs' team! The Kings were not Sacramento's team 30 years ago.

You might feel the connection to the team because they are from your home town but that does not make them your team. You can follow them, be their fan, hate them...what ever but the simple fact of the matter is that the city of Sacramento do not control the team. It is a private business venutre of a famility that happens to be rich enough to have that toy to play with.

I can't understand this irrationa thinking because if you and everyone else who is slamming the Kings are in Maloofs' shoes and if the Kings staying in Sacramento cost you millions and millions of dollars every year, you would have moved your team years ago.

Look it sucks and I went through a similar experience that the people of Sacramento are going though with my team down under but I still remained loyal to the team.

Its your choice whether you continue to love them or you start to hate them but don't take it out on those that do not share your view point. I happen to think that your rants are irrational and I can NEVER understand how someone who claims to love the Kings as much as you do, to bleed purple, jump on the bandwagon and start supporting our biggest rivals in our history. That suggests that you never really loved the Kings to start of it. They are a novelty that at your front door but at soon as they leave, you will jumo in the sack with what you considered your biggest enemy as recently as 2 days before. That I could never understand but each to their own I guess.

I wouldn't be mad at the Kings if the team moved -- that is the players or the front office who had no role in the decision anyway. I wouldn't be entirely mad at the Maloofs, though I believe like others have stated here that they're not blameless in the continued inability of Sacramento to put together a successful arena deal. They did as much as anyone to sink Q and R and there's been no attempt at gathering support for a tax since.

Most of all I would be mad at the NBA and David Stern for giving lip-service to the idea that Sacramento is a good basketball town and they'd do what they could to keep the NBA there and then completely turning their back on Sacramento at the first opportunity. The Cal Expo deal was a long-shot to begin with. Saying that they explored every possible avenue in Sacramento because they spent two years assisting in some mysterious way on that one deal is incredibly disingenuous. Sortof like pretending they knew nothing about Clay Bennett's intentions to move the Sonics to OKC when e-mails have since revealed otherwise.

And now when we have Kevin Johnson lobbying for a new arena in Sacramento, with or without the NBA, David Stern coyly refuses to comment on the topic and grants the Maloofs an extension to mull over playing in Anaheim next season! and let him know after this season ends. At least Seattle got a whole season's worth of knowing their team would leave. We get two months of uncertainty and then nothing. No more NBA in Sacramento. The perception I get is that the NBA is rolling out the red carpet for a move to Anaheim, 26 years of Sacramento history be damned. All those sellouts, all those ear-damaging playoff games, the freakin' banner hung up in Arco/PBP for the fans. Nothing. That's enough to push me over the top from NBA fan to NBA boycotter. If the only team I've ever rooted for or wanted to root for -- The Sacramento Kings -- is no longer a team, I'm done.

And honestly, if this goes on much longer it won't even matter to me whether the Kings stay in Sacramento or not. I love basketball, I'll always love basketball. But David Stern has made it very very hard for me to garner any enjoyment from watching the NBA anymore. Anyone who wants to root for the Anaheim Whatever, that's okay with me. I hope all the players still have fans to root for them because they played no part in this. But I can't do it. Being a sports fan is supposed to be about loyalty. It's completely irrational, we know it's irrational, but we do it anyway. The unspoken assumption is that our loyalty and all the millions of dollars that represents to them is valued by the team. If you pull the rug out from under that belief, the whole thing goes up in smoke. I can't or won't pretend otherwise.

cosigned, Stern is a horrible back stabber of a commish. This will be like 2 teams in the last 4 years moving. That's terrible. He's not a good commish, he just relies on playing up the big markets.

Well if I was the mayor, or on the city council and there were another 5-10 people like me on the council this would not be a conversation we are having right now.

I was a season ticket holder until the economy hit me. I did my part. Even after I had to cancel I still went to games. Don't know what else to say though. Just feels like I got punched in the gut, and I cannot possibly still be in love with what hurt me this bad.

The Kings are not losing money... How many times do you have to hear this before you understand?

And like I said earlier.. Technically anythng you have a lein on isn't yours either although I am sure you probably call it yours, am I right? Your car, your house, your boat... I guess since I owe 8,000 on my car I can't technically call it my car either? The bank owns a sweet car that I drive, and the bank owns a sweet house I live in.

The Kings are OUR team.. If they leave they will cease to be OUR team. Quit making things worse with your idiotic statements.

In that case the NBA and all American sports leagues should stop putting city names on the front of jerseys.
And maybe at the start of each game they shouldn't say "WELCOME YOUR SACRAMENTO KINGS!".. Maybe they should just say "WELCOME THE MALOOF KINGS!"... lol.. Some people with their comments.. And I thought I was making funnies with my irrational thoughts.

And Detroit ain't no bustling city...
You aint kidding! I've been talking about that for awhile now, using Detroit as an example(even though they still have a big hand in the auto industry)but when Forbes released the Top 10 most miserable cities(based on housing market/foreclosures and unemployment rate)Sacramento was #5 on the list, with Stockton and Modesto #'s 1 and 2. Miserable?!? I think not! Their little blurb of why we were so high at #5 on the list was that the Kings were doing bad...um...HELLO!?! Detroit was #1 in the country for foreclusures! Sacramento's poverty rate is 22%, not good, but not THAT bad! Stockton's was 19%, FYI...BUT...no where on that 'miserable' list was Detroit...with a poverty rate at a whopping 47%!!! That means that almost half of the almost 6 million people that live in Detroit are living below the poverty rate financially!! So...that being said...Sacramento might not be bustling, but it's still in alot better shape than alot of places. There...there's my 2 cents about that(off topic, sorry)...thank you. :D

I'm with you on this one. Just reading this thread is making me angry, so I won't visit it anymore. Extremely insensitive posts. As long as this team is here, they are the SACRAMENTO Kings. If or when they leave, I'm going to have a tough time following them. Maybe down the road it will get easier, but I'm not so sure. My heart is breaking right now.

I got hammered yesterday, so split for a bit. I think this thread is good to hash things out between Kings fans up and down CA.

I'm not a native Californian. I have ties in both affected regions. If anyone wants to find me in Roseville, just come over to the corner of Woodcreek Oaks Blvd. and Baseline. At any rate,

1. I want the Kings to stay in Sacto.

2. For many Sac fans, the team represents the city, so of course they are going to be pissed if the team moves, and for these people, why would they follow the team that no longer represents their city? These fans are fans of their city first before the team. I am not sure how people do not understand this.

3. I think the So.Cal. Kings fans here have been supportive of the Kings staying in Sac, and have not demonstrated gross insensitivity to Sac fan. Usually when you have a relo like this, fans from the new city come in and engage in a flame war with fans from the old city. From what I can tell, that hasn't happened. At least not yet and hopefully it won't.

4. People like me and other out-of-area folks need to understand these people are pissed and some of them may feel a need to take it out on someone, anyone, and we are convenient targets here. Still, they are missing the mark.

5. I asked my wife, who is from the Sac area, if she would support the Kings in OC. She has no plans to do so.

6. My nephew in Roseville is pissed about this situation. He says "f*$& 'em" and that he "hates them". He is a 49er season ticket holder, so he isn't anti-sports.

7. Sac is taking a kick to the nutsack on this right now. They are going to vent and people are just going to have to accept that. In fact, I am sure some Sac-based poster will let me have it some more based just on this post.

8. We all have a right to be here as long as we aren't violating the TOS.

Gary has officially lost his mind. His avatar is pure garbage and he has the audacity to call out the OP's avatar out? Give me a freakin' break! I'm also an LA native, born and raised, and the kings being in Anaheim would make it pretty easy to attend games. With that, I still want them to stay in sactown.

I gotta be honest, I think Gary's avatar is great. Though, that's surely just a reflection of how I'm feeling right now, lol.

Again, I'm not saying it's right or not, but if you're not from Sacramento, and if you haven't lost a team from your hometown, you simply don't understand.

My mind is still in tact, and is just fine thank you. Since I cannot grab a Maloof by his collar and shake him and ask what's going through his mind then this is the second best way for me to vent, via the web and all the social media. The Maloof's are responsible just as much as the sacramento politicians.

But thanks for your concern? I am just fine, and can have rational conversations as long as it isn't with some LA native who doesn't mind that the team is moving.. Oh wait..

We, as Sacramento natives are pissed off.. Let us be pissed. we are losing OUR TEAM. Like I said earlier. If Cincinnati lost the Bengals to Sacramento I would still be a Bengal fan, but I would not try to incite emotional responses from pissed of Cincinnati natives like you LA folk are doing here.

As much as you think you aren't, you really are so please stop and let us be upset and vent a little..

Thanks.. Not that your opinion matters or anything.. But for me it's like the team is dissolving into nothing. The only people that seem "OK" with the move are LA people.. Go figure.. Can't wait until they go back to KC after you all fail as fans down there.
1) Anaheim and Orange County certainly are not LA. Are San Jose and Sacramento the same towns? And why wouldn't people down here be ok with it? Obviously we're not as physically attached to the team because we're not able to attend games regularly.

2) The city of Sacramento should look in the mirror when it comes to "failing as fans". The attendance has been really sad as of late. Sad part is, more people would probably be attending games if they had a new arena. And that's why we are where we are.

Silly comment. OC and LA are the in the same LA media market. That is what counts when it comes to media contracts and advertising sales. Tell the Lakers they get nothing from OC. And Sac and San Jose? You need a CA map.

San Jose/Sacramento would be accurate if someone was comparing Los Angeles and San Diego. Anaheim is to Los Angeles what Roseville/Rocklin is to Sacramento. Different area yes, but the same market.

The team has been sad as of late. Does anyone really think a bad team is not going to have bad attendance?
