How Would You Handle The Kings Current Situation?

Let's say the future of the Sacramento Kings is in your hands. The top 3 priorities to take care of are as follows:

Players - Who do you keep? Who do you trade?
Staff - Keep Adelman? Keep Petrie?
Arena - New arena? Is it a major concern, or does the players and staff come first?

List the above 3 from first to third in priorty; which comes first? Second? Third? What will you do to address each of those areas?

Here is what I would do:

1. Players - Mike Bibby and Kevin Martin are untouchable. I would keep these 2 players. Everyone else is tradeable. My first trade would be:

Outgoing: Bonzi Wells, Peja Stojakovic, and Corliss Williamson
Incoming: Joe Johnson and Al Harrington

My second trade:

Outgoing: Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Brad Miller, and Kenny Thomas
Incoming: Kevin Garnett

Mike Bibby
Joe Johnson
Al Harrington
Kevin Garnett
Brian Skinner

Bench:
Jason Hart
Francisco Garcia
Kevin Martin
Jamal Sampson - Activate
Ronnie Price - Activate

The bench looks horrible, but the starting 5 looks beastly. The Kings would sign a free agent to be determined later. The Kings could easily become title contenders. However, if the bench becomes a problem as it is now, then a trade could be made to:

Outgoing: Al Harrington
Incoming: Earl Watson and Nene Hilario

Move Joe Johnson to the 3 spot and start Kevin Martin in the OG. Hence, the starting 5 would be:

Mike Bibby
Kevin Martin
Joe Johnson
Kevin Garnett
Brina Skiiner

Bench:
Earl Watson
Nene Hilario
Jason Hart
Francisco Garcia
Jamal Sampson - Activate
Ronnie Price - Activate

However, I would prefer to keep Al Harrington and just sign free agents to make the becnh stronger.

2. Arena - Get a new arena. Simple as that. Have the Maloofs do whatever it takes to get a new arena. Petrie took care of the players, now it's time for the Maloofs to take care of the arena.

3. Staff - If Petrie decides to make some trades, no need to question him (especially the trades I said). Adelman, I'd let him coach the rest of the season. I'd see if he could turn around the Kings with the revamped Kings, and if he still manages to blow it, then it's time to look at some new coaches.

This was my plan for the Kings for the rest of this year. We lose 80% of our starting lineup and most of our bench, but looking at that starting 5 gives me goosebumps.

Note: All of the trades were accepted on RealGM.com and I suggest you guys use it if you decide to make trades to make sure it'll work.

Props for all that work, but...

:eek::eek::eek:

Kevin Martin? Bibby? Untouchable?

I don't have the energy to come up with a whole plan myself, but IMHO, the WHOLE TEAM is tradeable (although I'd really hate to part with Bonzi). But if any combination of our players can get us a true superstar, I'm for it.

And the arena thing is much more difficult than just saying the Maloofs need to make it happen. There are SO many other parties and factors involved.

We already have a VERY long trade thread. So I would strongly encourage people NOT to post trade ideas here. I can understand arguing if certain players are or aren't expendable, but we really do not need ANOTHER thread full of trades.

Thanks for understanding.

I basically wanted this thread to be about what everyone thinks should be the major concerns for the Kings and what they would do about it, but reading what I posted, I mainly talked about trade. Sorry about that.

At what point in your plan do you lobotomize all other GMs in the league?

I don't know, I was thinking of throwing a party and inviting every GM in the NBA. Then, I planned to strap them all down and force them to listen to Ron Artest's CD. I would then force them to sign paperwork that said I had permission to lobotomize them. If they didn't agree, they would be strapped down to a chair listening to Ron Artest's CD forever. I am also aware that instead of forcing them to sign paperwork to allow me to lobotomize them, I could just tell them to sign paperwork to agree to the trades, but I like to complicate things. What do you think?

***Sorry VF, I didn't get to see you're no trade plea...I started typing this before you submitted your message...Sorry! :o :o :o

GM Peter Daley has taken the helm.

First, I announce to the league that everyone except Bonzi and possibly SAR are up for grabs.

Then my trade proposals come into place.

Incoming:
Etan Thomas, Calvin Booth (From Washington)
Outgoing: Kenny Thomas, Jamal Sampson

-Both Etan and Kenny are underachieving a little bit this year, and could be helped by a change of scenery...Etan has a long contract, so the Wizards don't have to worry about taking on KT's monster...Neither Jamal nor Booth see the floor very much, so it's a trade based on what the Wiz think of Sampson's possible potential...Still only 22/23 years old, he could develop into a decent player...With Booth, you know what you get...A really good shotblocker with absolutly no offensive game...WOuld be nice to spell BRad for a few minutes...

Incoming: Jamaal Magloire, Charlie Bell (From Milwaukee)
Outgoing: Peja Stojakovic

-I like this trade for both sides...For Milwaukee, it sets up a deadly outside shooting combo of Micheal Redd/Peja Stojakovic...This also bolsters their bench, as it sends Bobby Simmons to the 6th man role...Lets Milwaukee officially start and develop Andrew Bogut for the future...The Kings do it because it suddenly makes us a much improved defensive team...With a shotblocking/defending center (who is still young) it could possibly end the open parade straight into the lane...This moves Brad to the PF spot where he can be out very (extremly) poor mans Chris Webber, as the PF who stands at the key and passes alot, and takes mid-range jumpers when time comes...SAR is pushed to the SF spot. HE may be soft by PF standards, but as a SF he is instantly a tough guy...Charlie Bell now into a potentiall Bobby JAckson role, as he is an explosive scorer off the bench.

Incoming: Omar Cook (From Free Agency)
Outgoing: Jason Hart (To Free Agency)

Omar Cook is a adequate defender who in his limited time with the Raptors showed a nice ability to pass and score...The Jason Hart experiment has flopped...It's time to move on.

Incoming:
Dajaun Wagner (From Free Agency)

Another explosive scorer off the bench...Doesn't do much else, but our bench needs a spark somewhere, from someone...Dajaun can do it...HE averaged 10 ppg his rookie year.

Outgoing: Kenvin Martin (Developmental League)

Although he shows flashes of good, he backs them up with 0/1/1 efforts...He needs to get some consistant PT in the DL, and with time will comes stats...With stats will come confidence...With confidence will come a better Kevin Martin for next year.

Our new lineup now looks.

PG: Bibby/Cook/Price
SG: Bonzi/Wagner/Bell
SF: SAR/Cisco
PF: Miller/Thomas
C: Magloire/Skinner/Booth

DL: Martin

As for the coach...If my trades all indeed happen, I would give Rick Adleman more time...If he could get this team to gel and and start winning, he continues to be the coach...

Great response. :D

I about lost it when I saw that Martin was untouchable

I would keep Bonzi, Bibby and Reef and scrap everyone else.

While this thread does seem to have some big similarities to the trade thread, and may very well discontinue to fully function soon, I do think that SLABs formula for getting us back on top would be quite a good idea. I like getting Magloire, although who knows if they would make that trade. If that were to happen, moving the other two makes a lot of sense. Cook and Thomas could be good off the bench, as could Wagner.

Nice job SLAB

I stopped reading when you said Kevin Martin was untouchable. Kevin Martin is a bust. He's a scrub. No game for the NBA. You need to package him in a trade somehow or just let him go at the end of the season. Bibby, I wouldn't mind having someonewith a bit more defensive prowess as long as he had the same offensive game. Until you find me someone we can trade him for, or replace him with. He stays

You want to trade Bonzi?? One of the only warriors on the tea?? I'm glad you're not the GM

The one thing that seems painfully clear is that our front line is not a well matched unit. That's my #1 to change vote.

Peja, Miller, and SAR all are great players but as a unit their weaknesses are huge and easy to exploit.

Peja's probably gone anyway so we get what we can for him now
Miller or SAR needs to go out in favor of a tougher rebounding and shotblocking big man. SAR's contract is so sweet I would lean towards trading Brad.

I think then we will see the talent balance of our team shift and we will be more successful. I don't think it's time to tank the team and rebuild yet, but unless we get something going over the next year or two we need to start going young.

oh, and sign Bonzi this summer...

How about.....

Peja and thomas for Harrington and Josh Smith straight up...makes us much more athletic and adds defense.

I like it- a big risk in trading Peja, may totally cripple us, but who knows, the dividends could be huge. I'd do it, and these actually look like trades that are easily possible.

Keep SAR (cheap and good) and re-sign Bonzi (soon and lock him up). Put Martin and Garcia on the D League if they won't get minutes - hope they mature some. If they can get minutes, give them consistently to let them know what to expect each night. They are cheap and need seasoning. Peja, if not signed to a very reasonable contract soon (trade deadline at the absolute latest), should be traded for the best young talent we can get. Brad I like, but maybe it is time to really blow it up and start from scratch, and his salary is pretty high. Much rather see KT go, though. Bring House back for scoring off the bench - he was really running the offense well at the end of last year, should have kept him. If we do keep Brad, we need some really athletic help for him. KT rebaounds pretty well, but he isn't that effective off the bench, apparently. Package him with Peja, maybe. I think the same sentiments about Brad go to Mike as well - I like him but he has some serious flaws and commands a big salary.

Maybe just get rid of the 3-4 guys with the highest salaries and bring in new, young talent and grow them?

Eh, just venting, I guess, easy to blather about trades on a board without putting too much thought about it. Then again, maybe that's why I'm an engineer and not a GM. :)

My comments on priorities...a new arena is bottom of the list. With a city that isn't even trying to come up with ideas, why would it be my priority? I'll get a new arena. The only question is where will it be (as in what city)? (Me the fan = :( )

If I were the GM I would make sure all beer prices were lowered so fans would be numb to the crappy Kings basketball they have been forced to watch.

Here is mine....

Keep Wells and Sar but every body else is tradeable

Trade 1

Peja and willamson for Pierce

Boston is working towards the future and will be doing this trade for finical reasons and having Pierce would provide a go to guy and could work the inside outside game with shareef.

Trade 2

Waston and Andre Miller for Bibby and Hart

Bibby would give denver much needed out-side shooter and Andre would give us a pass first pg and a solid defender. While Waston would be a great bench player for us.

Trade 3

Brad Miller for Chris Wilcox and kaman

To me there is no way the clips make this deal, really i only wanted to make it Wilcox and a guard and brad but brad's contract is to big to make a trade with a player who is not a key componet on their team but any why wilcox brings shot blocker and rebounder. Also he is a really good defender.

And We need to fire RA we need a new coach for a new team

End Product

Team Roster

Kaman/Wilcox/Skinner
SAR/Thomas
Pierce/Martain
Wells/Graica
Miller/Waston

The only trade that might not be needed is the Bibby trade but i like the team.

And the new Arena will come if we win so i chose to fix the team first.

Ok here's my plan if I'm the gm:

Fire adelman, keeping him around coaching this terrible team is cruel and unusual punishment for someone who did as much for the franchise as he did
Trade for Nene and hope he resigns in the offseason and is good next year
Sit bonzi for a long time to make sure he doesn't have any lingering effects from the injury
trade SAR and Brad for expiring contracts and young players/picks
Get a good draft pick
Get expiring contracts
Get Kevin Martin experience, he has tons of athleticism and has some potential

this way you atleast have some hope of being good in 2-3 seasons. Sign some guys this offseason, hope NeNe can make a good recovery, hope Kevin Martin turns into a decent player instead of a scrub. Draft some good players, maybe even be able to get LaMarcus aldridge.

i don't know, not all these are able to be done/will work but it's something we should do unless the team somehow starts to do real well.
