A team could trade for Bobby as an ending contract, but I think he's too valuable a piece for him to be used that way. His contract is also puny, so it wouldn't be much of a salary dump. So alternately a team could trade for him with the intention of installing him as their starter. But in order for THAT to work, it would have to be a team without any hope/need for him this year. A bad team most likely. But then of course an aging player like Bobby is a better fit on a veteran team that'a already close than he is on a rebuilding squad.
So bottomline, that injury probably screwed up not only his ability to help us this season on the court, but his ability to help us through acquiring another player via trade. Only way it seems like their would be a major market for him would be if he were an extra player thrown in in a trade. But hard to see that happening either, as shipping out one core player for a spark is doable without too much disrption to the team, but shipping out one or more other core guys in the same season begins to really mess with chemsitry/continuity such that its hard to see us making much of a run. You could do it on the theory that he can't help us much this year anyway, so any other significant player will make a bigger contribution. But I think that even when not playing, his presence on and arouodn the team probably still counts for something. One of the other hard workers that Webb has focused on.
Now if he recovers, over the summer his value could be VERY high. Held back by injury of course, but we will have mulitple options that could make him attractive to other teams -- either pick up the option, and then have a talented PG with a small ending contract = HUGE value, or don't pick up the option and then resign him + trade him with a 3-4 year signifcant $$ deal to a team looking for a veteran point for the long haul. Or, of course, just keep one of the most explosive reserves in the league on our bench.
