How is this for a rebuild

Entity

Hall of Famer
If you go back to last year the day before the draft and look at our roster.

Only 4 players remain from that roster. Beno, Garcia, Greene, and Thompson the last 2 were coming off their rookie seasons

after that day we drafted Evans, Casspi, and Brokman then traded for Landry then Dalembert then Drafted Cousins and Whitside. 7 new players since last years draft. If Garcia gets traded Beno will be the longest tenured king. Thats strange and if Beno gets ousted then 3rd year Jason Thompson would be the longest tenured king (traded for Greene later)

thats a rebuild of epic proportions.

What's great is that most people that don't follow the kings have no idea what has transpired lately. They probably think we still have Martin, miller, and hawes on this team.

it really is amazing how much this team has changed for the better when you consider our starting line up for the first game LAST year was tyreke, kmart, desmond mason, sean may, and jt

I love it, I have mentioned once or twice that the post-Adelman era brought a loser's mentality to the team and while there were some nice guy players for all I cared all of them should be removed from the team. JT and Donte only had one year without Reke, Beno has played for winners and I do not think he is a long term solution and that leaves Cisco who was probably the one scrappy guy during our skid. I'm not sure how long he has with us either but I'm willing to give him a full season if he can stay healthy to prove his mettle.

The front court, well 2 days after the draft I'm still beaming. I spent a year salivating and crossing my fingers over the though of getting Cousins here and if Sammy and Hassan manage to be nothing more than 12 fouls I think I'll still be thrilled.

Now, with a vet or two of significant impact, the rebuild can be on it's scary way. With the youngest team in the league the kings need a Chauncy Billups type of vet. A leader, a reliable consistent performer to lead this band of fantastic kids inu the right direction and to set a work ethic they all need.

The Kings played their best with Beno and Tyreke at the 1-2 but Beno spent 4 years learning to be role player for the Spurs. He is essential for now but let's see what type of personel magic GP can do to get some expeience and leadership vets in the fold. Time enough for one of the kids to become a leader but not just yet. It takes time.

Any "rebuild" happens in stages. Maybe 3, maybe 4 but those take a couple of years. Ok City went from 18 wins to 40 or so with two new pieces and a good new coach. Depending on how coachable DMC quickly becomes, the Kings could do something similar. ;)

Yes, Billups would be an ideal fit on a lot of levels.

As I've mentioend several times, the abrupt change in philosophy from this organization has been breathtaking. It was like they just suddenly flipped a switch and got it. This is exactly what many of us had been calling for for half a decade while we wallowed around signing MLE vets trying to magnificently sneak in as a #8 seed hemmorraging bored fans. And then all of a sudden it was as if they woke up, rolled over, read my accumulated tirades over the last 5 years, and said, hey, you know what, he has a point. :p

I think we may perversely have the patheticness of that 17 win season to thank for all this. Without it, who knows if we reset? We certainly don't get Reke, and if we win 35 maybe we continue to waddle on in deluded fashion. I remmeber Geoff sounding shocked (or as shocked as he can sound) about how pitiful that team turned out, and it seemed to just finally serve as a massive wakeup slap on the face. The way we have responded has been impressive, but its also been just bizarre and oddly a little infuriating in that we finally have gotten it on so many levels...but damn all those wasted years.

I hope Beno would be next and not Cisco.

I would have said that at the beginning of last season, but Beno was steady last year. Definitely overpaid, so if we can get better and save money by moving him, I'm all for it. But I don't think he needs to go just because. Especially when we don't have a back up guard.
