How far away is Spencer?

Hawes will not be better than Brad next year. He hasn't got the minutes this year to get the experience needed to be better next year. But the year after that I think he will be better. Hawes has more talent than Miller. Superior coordination, better low post player, higher BB IQ, more confidence, more competitive spirit, better shooter.

Still, they should trade Miller at season end (assuming they get a very high pick and/or young athletic studs) and have Hawes be the starter with Miki as back-up. Miller has had a good year. His value should be pretty high, and it's not going to get any higher. If anything, his value could go down after this year. Buy low, sell high - right, Petrie? By doing so, it would accelerate Hawes's growth and of course the added talent from the trade will help the team. But Petrie won't do that because they might be a little worse next year because of Hawes's growing pains and the goal of .500 ball is in sight. Heaven forbid if we regress to .450 ball. The way things are going there will be good offers on the table for Miller, Petrie will hold out for more, Miller gets injured next year, and we squat for Miller after that.

I can see that happening.

Haha...I love how Kings managment has turned so many of us into pessimists these last few seasons.

Utah wanted Brad, but when we pulled off the trade with Indy instead, they signed Okur. They still have Okur, however, and seem to be happy with him. I'm not sure how they could use Brad.

Indy, however, I could see wanting Brad back if they opt not to go for the full rebuild (they also have Foster's expiring, and Diogu and a nice pick). Chicago, possibly, if they envision Noah as more of a 4 than a 5 (they have Hughes's deal, which is awful but shorter than Brad, as well as some TThomas and a pick). Orlando, but they don't really have the pieces. Other than that.... not sure. Toronto (Rasho's expiring and a pick?) Altanta (if they want chemistry with Bibby, move Horford to PF, have trouble resigning Smith). But really, not a ton of options out there.

If I recall correctly, they wanted him before they signed even Boozer. They have a very good front line (Boozer, Millsap, Okur, Kirilenko). Fesenko is waiting for his time (David Thorpe is quite high on him).

I was wondering if Dallas would be interested in Brad. Cuban likes to win, and doesn't mind adding salary. They just signed away Diop, leaving a hole in the middle. Also, since they traded for Kidd, they shall like to be relevant, at least till he has some juice left.

The downside is that I don't think they shall trade anyone we might want. They already gave away some picks in the Kidd trade. Don't know the status of their expirings etc. though.

Here's one: Kidd's an expiring.

Dallas has already had ample chance to see that they're not getting what they'd hoped for out of the guy. I have him on one of my fantasy teams (Showed up late for the draft, and got him automatically. Oops!), and he's benched in favor of J.R. Smith. His numbers really are that bad lately.

But if we want to dump salary, well, he's got a whopper. Brad + substantial filler for Kidd could be great for both teams. We need more PGs, and we need more enders; two birds with one stone. Dallas gets out from under Kidd without looking stupid, and get their new starting C out of it... plus some filler, which might cover another need.

Kidd would probably not be wild about a year with another non-contender, but he's from the East Bay and might like that side of it. It's not like Dallas was going to get him a ring anyway, and after a year, he can do whatever he wants.

Yes, this is a salary dump. Depending on who the filler was, we might or might not have grounds to ask something more of Dallas, some additional investment in our future. But either way works.

Like the thought.

Given that Dallas would like to remain relevant (competing for the PO at least), guess we shall need to S&T Beno (since they shall need a PG).

The way Spencer came off those screens (against San Antonio tonight) and swished 20 footers looked like Dirk N. But wait, I'm not sure Dirk was doing that when he entered the NBA at 19 nor did he have those nice little half hooks with either hand. Of course, both suffered big time on the defensive end early on.

Agreed. Dirk looked like ****ed fool when he entered into the league. Got dunked on pretty good over and over again. Also made some nasty rookie mistakes. Spencer's showing capabilities that some players don't learn until they are well into their NBA prime. Despite defensive lapses at times, which will be corrected by experience, Hawes has shown willingness to challenge shots over and over again. He may never be a great shot blocker in this league, but he might not be as bad as some people think.
