Hire Jerry Sloan Now !!

I don't care if Sloan wants to work in the future or not. Our team is underachieved, we made a step back comparing to the last season and we need a new coach. Sloan has the ability to bring the attention back to Sacramento and God knows he's a terrific coach, so all I want from Joe and Gavin is to try their best to bring him now!

Sloans said he's not going anywhere else. He's retiring and he's well warned all within earshot the last few years that this might come out of nowhere.

Besides, I don't know about Sloan coaching a player like Cousins. I see fireworks, and not the good kind!

Jerry Sloan has a reputation as an extremely tough taskmaster, getting right in his players face when he feels it's warranted and yelling at them at the top of his lungs - but mostly in private. No doubt he's a great coach or at least a very good one, 3rd all time in wins, but unfortunately never winning a championship. Sloan is eight years older than Paul Westphal and it seems now ready for retirement. I'd be rather surprised if he lands another head coaching job in the NBA - not because he can't do, or somebody doesn't want to give him another chance - but because he's now decided to pack it in. I guess if Coachie ever retires at now almost 80, maybe Sloan might be a nice replacement for his spot - if he'd take it.

Speaking of Coachie he's on KHTK **right now** or at least in a couple minutes - 4:40pm

Just finished reading all the Utah newspapers and also read Sloans remarks at the press conference. My guess is that at least for now, he's retiring. That might change by the end of the season when he's tired of sitting home. He's one of my favorite coaches, and is the third winningest coach of all time. And if his Stockton/Malone teams hadn't had the misfortune to exist at the same time period as Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Issiah Thomas, and Michael Jordan teams, he would probably have a couple of championships under his belt. In 23 years of coaching I don't think he's had more than a couple of years where his team won less than 50% of their games. No mean feat.

From what I read he's had many run in's with Williams over his time with the Jazz. And they alluded to at least three earlier in the year. Its also reported that Williams gave management an ultimatum earlier in the year, that they had to choose between either Sloan or him. I suspect that in the meeting with management the owner must have sided with Williams and that sparked and outburst from Sloan, who already had had an altercation with Williams after the game.

Its a shame for it to end like this. Sloan is a far greater coach than Williams will ever be as player. But everybody has to come to the end of the road, and likely it was time for Sloan to go. It is a players league, as Stern has said many times. But you always have to be wary of letting the inmates run the asylum.

There are three different threads this topic is in. It isn't going to happen, people need to quit dreaming. If you think he's resigning what does that mean then? I'm pretty sure it means he wants to take a break from coaching.

Well, it is pretty big news. Can't blame people for being excited/interested. I think it's very unlikely he coaches anywhere else, but what's this message board for if not wild speculation and hyperbole? We do need a coach and he's a pretty good one so it doesn't come out of nowhere.

i'm on the fence about having sloan as the head coach of the kings. the bright points would be he would bring structure to this team. if they don't play the way he wants to play, they won't play. i've read the quotes from the guys. he runs the same plays over and over again. predictability. however the bad is that i don't know how some of the guys would handle it especially demarcus. imagine sloan getting in his grill screaming at the top of his lungs with him.

My two cents: LOVE Sloan. But the last thing we need to do right now is change coaches. Our coach is actually pretty good, and you can see that by the quality of relationships he has with his players. Granted some of his substitution methods and in-game decision making are... strange. But the number one thing you want in an NBA coach is someone who has quality relationships with his players. The second thing you want is the technical aspect of coaching.

Why are relationships more important? Because if that's in place, these guys are all adults, and the team itself will evolve together, leaders will emerge etc. The nuts and bolts of coaching are way overrated. Sloan had GREAT relationships with his players. Westphal has good relationships, and they may get better, as time goes on. We need right now stability and the opportunity for the coach and the team to "cook" for a bit. Just let things cook. We're headed in the right direction.

Hmmm! I wonder what the result would be from running the same plays over and over again? Hmmm! Maybe, just maybe, when you run them during an actual game, you might run them properly. Why do the great shooters take 500 shots a day in the offseason? Maybe, just maybe it increases the chances that they'll make more shots during the season. As Ken Venturi said. The more I practice, the luckier I get.

Sloan is the third winningest coach in the history of the NBA. He didn't accomplish that with luck. If he wanted to coach the Kings, which I doubt, I'd certainly have to consider it. Thats not meant as disrespect to Westphal. Facts are facts, and Sloan has a track record that you can't argue with. I admit to being biased. He and Pop's are my favorite coaches in the league. And both have similar styles. They treat everyone the same. There are no primadonnas on their teams. The stars work just as hard as the rest of the guys or they won't play. Either coach will jerk any player on their team for not doing what their suspossed to do. I watched Pop's do it with Parker earlier in his career, and I watched Sloan do it with Williams earlier in his career. Apparently Williams holds a grudge..

Sloan is a winning coach. I know people don't like "what ifs", but he did face Jordan and the ever powerful Bulls twice and was one shot away from forcing a game 7. He also made the conference finals 4 times aside from those two finals appearances.

If Sloan still wants to coach, I would give him a shot.

he aint coaching next year. Hes done now, great coach who id take in an instant but all the quotes and interviews ive read hes very very happy in retirement and has ruled out coaching elsewhere complately
