buckcherry and aerosmith are both featured on dmc's new solo album.

but i could see how you could forget aerosmith. i mean, they've hardly been a relevant rock & roll band in the last 30 or so years.

It doesn't represent it much at all. It was just the album before I mentioned that reminded me of this album that Dan the Automator helped create. Well made and interesting though. Strange feel to the whole album. It reminded me of an old Tom Waits album.

hehe...while i typically agree with the way you rationalize certain things, i have to say, this is pretty flawed logic. the point of the thread is to recommend specific hip hop to people who may be unaware. its an ongoing discussion of hip hop on the whole, and taste in music is rather subjective, wouldn't you say? i dig sergio mendes, and timeless is a great recommendation, but it ain't a pissing contest to see who can post the "better" hip hop music. i think several of my recommendations in this thread are excellent, but maybe somebody else doesn't. i don't give a **** either way, and it shouldn't matter.

because that would just be too easy.

the bolded was why i suggested it in the first place. half of what top 40's radio hails as "hip hop" i don't consider to be true to the genre, and half of what i consider to be great "hip hop" isn't even exclusively hip hop, because it borrows from so many other musical styles. music was never supposed to be confined to a genre. its a form of expression, and labels hardly do it justice.

Four things:

1) That isn't remotely what I did. To say that I refused to accept the recommendations implies that I haven't been listening to and evaluating said recommendations, which assumes facts not entered into evidence.

2) As a matter of fact, I have been listening to the recommendations, for most of the night, actually (thanks to the joys of YME, and another pay service that I make use of), which you might have figured out if you'd bothered to read my second post in this thread, so I feel quite justified in my assessment, thank you very much.

3) Everybody on any given message board cares what other people think about their ideas; either that, or they're just "talking to hear themselves talk." You're the one that needs to stop kidding himself.

4) And, furthermore, I stand by my opinion that White People and Music to Make Love to Your Old Lady By aren't hip-hop. This isn't a "one drop of Negro blood" situation; a kinda-sorta hip-hop beat on every fifth track does not a hip-hop album make.

1. You were out of line to make the "ignorant" comment.

2. Disbelieve is a different word than discredit. The word you originally used was discredit.

3. Prolly is not a word.

4. This whole side-bar thing is stopping now. Slim stated his opinion about one post, which is certainly par for the course around here. You took offense for God knows what reason, but I'm assuming it's because you simply didn't understand what was being said.

I have to agree most heartily with GoGoGadget. You and one or two other members of this forum wanted this thread. Then, when you have it SOLELY FOR HIP HOP, you cannot seem to keep to the topic at hand.

Keep it about the topic. It's not about whether or not you have the vocabulary to fight a war of words with Slim. And it's STILL not about throwing terms like "don't be ignorant" around - especially when you have no idea what you're really talking about.

i'll admit, you've got me there. however, its one thing for somebody to echo a recommendation and another thing for somebody to act on a recommendation. i've heard timeless, and i think its a good album. i can agree with the original poster that it is a good recommendation, but until somebody actually goes out of their way to listen to said recommended album, i don't know if i would be willing to say that the recommendation was "worthwhile."

i guess all the recommendations made thus far, and those that will be made in the future, are kind of like draft picks. some are loaded with potential, others aren't, but until somebody else takes a chance on them, its just the words of a few people, who may or may not be biased.
