Here's a team actually trying to get better!!! (GS/IND trade)

This is a stunning trade. I don't think the New York City sewer system moves this much crap in a day.

Here's a team actually trying to get better!!!

The Warriors and Pacers are set to announce a trade later on this afternoon that will send:

Ike Diogu, Mike Dunleavy, Troy Murphy, and Keith McCleod to the Pacers in exchange for:

Al Harrington, Stephen Jackson, Sarunas Jasckivicus (sp?), and Keith Powell

The Warriors just improved their roster tremendously!!! I mean Harrington is the perfect PF for Nellie's system and they got him for a bunch of scrubs, except maybe Diogu who could be good in the future.

Warriors potential lineup:

Pg. Baron Davis, Sarunas Jaskivicus, Monta Ellis
Sg. Jason Richardson, Monta Ellis, Mikael Pietrus, Anthony Roberson
Sf. Stephen Jackson, Mikael Pietrus, Matt Barnes
PF. Al Harrington, Keith Powell
C. Andres Biedrins, Adonal Foyle

That's a deep, talented, athletic, young team-- basically everything we're not!!

As if I wasn't depressed enough already!!

a) Already under discussion.

b) Trade moves a lot of bodies, but doesn't really do that much for either team. Meh.

To keep the spirit of the personnel moves forum: now that the Warriors are really thin up front the Kings should go after Jason Richardson with Kenny Thomas.

Again, you take my **** contracts and I'll take yours. Really doesn't do much for either team. 10 of the 14 guys on the roster of the Warriors play either PG, SG or SF......Nellie will be taking small ball to new extremes.

When I first saw it on ESPNEWS it said Pacers and Kings make 8 player trade, that lasted a second then it changed to Warriors, got my hopes up that we could trade our old trash for something young maybe :(

The question will this be is the finally enough to send Jermaine O'neil into a full "Trade me now" tirade.....

In all seriousness though, this is a major coup for Golden State. They give up two overpaid stiffs, and get a versatile 3/4 who will fit right into Nellie's system in Harrington, a talented questionable personlity in Steven Jackson who nevertheless has a championship ring and will also fit right into Nellie's system, Jasikevicius, who can shoot and is on a short term deal, and Josh Powell for filler. I don't see the downside for Golden State. All you give up of real value is Diogu, who is a good halfcourt player that doesn't fit with Nellie's system. And the cap situation just got a whole lot better.

Meanwhile, Indiana just killed themselves. I have no idea what they were thinking. I guess O'Neal is going to play center, where he's not as comfortable? Dunleavy will come off the bench behind Granger? What was the impetus of taking on such massive contracts?? I think this seals the deal -- Bird officially sucks as a GM. Mullin took him to the cleaners.

Stephen Jackson balances out the deal, otherwise the Warriors really got the better end of this onel. Harrington's versatility will fit right in with the system they run. He still is somewhat of a half-court player himself but at least he’s mobile.

Diogu wasn't a Nellie guy so it's not surprising he got traded-- might work out well in Indy's slower half court system. I thought Dunleavy would benefit greatly from Nelly or succumbed to Nelly's craziness, and it looks like the latter. Don't know what they're going to do with Dunleavy. If he couldn't work under Nellie, I don't know what they’re going to get out of him. Murphy is probably going to play "Brad Miller" in Indy.

Now that I think about it, it's not a bad deal for Indy. They get rid of Jackson, who was a distraction and hard to move, for guys that should fit their system.

Kenny Thomas and Garcia for Jason Richardson works. Richardson is really struggling this year with injuries, and we'd need to know that his knee is going to be ok, but he was really making strides last year, averaging 23 points a game with strong rebounding and improving defense. He's only 25. I don't know if this is enough for Golden State, but if the Kings could get Richardson for cheap he could be the SF of the future, you could then trade Artest for an expiring and a pick. Thomas could fit in with Golden State as a backup PF because of his rebounding skills and the fact that he doesn't need to score. His contract is cheaper longterm than Richardson's.

I think this is a great deal for the Warriors. Harrington will instantly provide help in the Warriors frontcourt. They then add Stephen Jackson to a backcourt that already has Baron Davis, Monta Ellis, JRich, and Pietrus. This is a really deep backcourt as well as Jackson, Jrich, and Peitrus legitimately being able to play SF.

In the up tempo style that Nellie has them playing, these 2 players will fit in well with this team.

I love Richardson's game but I think he's too small to be an everyday SF -- he's only about 6'5" --

But that being said, if we could get him for Thomas and Garcia (I highly doubt that they would even think about this for more then a quick second before they laugh), I'd do it in a heartbeat

They have a huge logjam at SG and SF that they need to convert to some more depth up front. Right now they have Ellis, Jackson, Richardson, Pietrus, Barnes, Powell and Azubuike, and they don't really have a true PF. They'll play Harrington there, but they don't even have a real backup PF, unless you count Barnes.

They might get better offers than Thomas, but he's at least athletic and might fit into their system bettter than ours. It's a longshot, but also a risk for the Kings because of Richardson's recent injury history.

Merged the threads

I merged the two threads to keep the conversation from being too splintered.

Wow. Harrington was rumored to go to GS when he was a free agent this summer, and Murphy/Diogu were rumored to go to Indy for Artest last year. Seems like this one could have been in the makings for a while.

About kills Pietrus' fantasy value for me, I'm afraid.

Honestly, I think any thread discussing getting rid of Thomas is just wistful thinking. NO-ONE in this league will take his contract unless we gave up the house to do it.

Were the Pacers really that desperate to get rid of Jackson? Surprised they would get rid of Al so soon after picking him back up.

Very good move for the Warriors though picking up yet more pieces that really fit Don's system while shipping of problem contracts attached to guys who maybe didn't. I think Matty Barnes is maybe the loser in all this as Biedrins has played well enough to stay at center, which makes Baby Al the Warriors new PF, an Matt is back to bench jockey.

The Warriors are still not going to make the playoffs.

I would not be so sure of that. They have as good a shot at #8 as anyone now. Actually already did. Much will depend on health. They've been screwed by injuries and have still been hanging aroudn .500. They get healthy...

I say they will now, they are better with the guys they got today and are very close to the 8th spot already, I don't expect a team like the Timberwolves will be able to hold onto a 7th seed all year long.

Don't underestimate them. Nelson is good enough. The roster is good enough. Their record is decent all things considered. My guess is a #7 or 8 slot.

For that to happen either Minnesota or Denver has to fall-apart i don't see it.

Golden State is better but they still can't rebound and they still can't guard anyone. Whether they make the playoffs is pretty irrelevant, IMO, they'll fight for a spot but they're featherweights.
