Words of wisdom as always from Sir Charles! Says we need to start over, Bibby is at the end of his prime, so is Artest, and Brad Miller, and even if they get healthy we stink! Uh OK....
Says we need to build through the draft! HA! Apparently he hasn't watched basketball in the last 8 years. That doesn't work that often anymore.
Exactly my thought. A corollary to the, "even a broken clock is right twice a day," theorem.basically what barkley's said for 4 years...
only now he's right

Easy there. It was only his first time
yeah, I hear ya...mediocre gets you the about the 12th pick in the draft. Blah...might as well tank so you can get Oden, right??I hate being mediocre.
Twice was for the the broken clock. Maybe CB has it happen twice in a lifetime.Easy there. It was only his first time

All right...time to calm down.I watched an interview with Petrie describing how he acquires players, and he looks for dribbling and shooting first, then size later.
I bet if we got the first pick of the draft next year, he would choose some swingman with great shooting instead of Oden.
Time to clean house and rebuild. Speaking of cleaning house, will it be the same house next year?
Imagine if we did get Oden.
With him as the dominate defensive force down low, and Artest as the dominate defensive force on the perimeter, we would actually have a dominate defensive team.
But then of course because we are the Kings, the number one pick is obliged not to go to us in any circumstance.
In a lottery of 1000 balls, and 995 of them are Kings balls, we would still get the 6th pick and end up with a 6'7 swingman.
May want to tell that to the Heat (Wade), Cavs(LeBron), Magic(Howard), Rockets (Yao), Spurs (Duncan) and Mavs (Dirk). You've got to make other moves, but all the elite teams have found their centerpieces in the lottery.
I think you have to consider everything if you are the Maloofs.if its petrie.. so we let go of him? or is that un heard of

Out of those teams 2 have won the championship. Based around the fact that they brought in a HUGE FA or made a HUGE trade or trades. i.e. Heat w/o Shaq are a borderline lotto team. The Spurs picked all their guys in the draft but with late 1st rounders, not lotto picks.
Those teams didn't build from the draft. I think it's safe to say we have about 2 top lotto pick type players in Bibby and Artest. I don't see a reason to gamble them away for a lotto pick and hope it becomes somewhat as good as these guys. If they were old maybe but they are 28 and 27!
This is when u create the KG, Iverson, and Pierce situation when u try to build around something that can't be rebuilt. And Bibby and Artest are not even the type of players to build a team around all these two have proven is that they are great second or third opinitions.
A lot of the reason they can't be re-built is because it's hard to re-build through the draft! For every San Antonio or Miami you get a Minniesota or Philadelphia. These teams are perfect examples. That and it's hard to trade for anything good when you have no trade assets. One thing Petrie has done is kept a roster of tradable pieces. We have more talent and depth than all those teams above combined almost.
Petrie is the master of trades. I mean look at the team we had, it got old, yet we still have some nice pieces. And Petrie has shown forever that he is good at drafting in the later part of the 1st round. Sometimes I think about how angry I get when he drafts a SG when we have 3. Talent. You can always trade talent.
The reason WE can't rebuild is because we are good enough to make the playoff but not good enough to get past the first thus not allowing us to get a decent first pick. We never built thru the draft we tryed to get some free agenys (sar and Bonzi) but that didn't work. And if Petrie is the master of trades we would have a big by now.
In the case with Minn they tryed with f/a and trades first with Cassel, Spewell, and Kandy man which did work. But now with Mike James and Ricky Davis which didn't work. They never did build thru because they never had a draft pick due to the Joe Smith thing.
And Philily is in the same boat with us to good to miss the playoffs bady but not good enough to get in the playoffs so they never got a lotto pick even though they got some decent ones with Iggy and Kover. And they also thought that webber trade would put them over the top, lol.

You can't have both. You either go all in or all out. I am saying I don't think it's worth throwing Artest, Bibby, and Miller away right now for picks. Suck for the next 5 years and hope the picks pan out. If Bibby, Artest, and Miller were 32-36 years old and not tradable for anything of instant value then sucking it on up would probably be a good way to go.
The Philly situation is different than ours from a few standpoints. They are where we were, a team led by an aged or aging core pieces. They are at a position where they can't trade any of there other pieces for an impact player/s. They overpaid them all or they don't have much value. They only thing they can do is trade the one guy keeping them in the thick of things (relatively speaking) which should put them in the range of acceptable "suck territory".
I would think if they put Iggy along with Damberet and picks they could get something good back. But trading Iggy would be like trading Martin to some Philiy fans. And many 76ers fans would trade iverson because they all know he has a few more years left and they won't be going no where with him. Which leads me to the kings, we can't keep this team together unless their is a major trade, which is really unlikely. As these 3 guys age with out a maior change they could easily fall in the same situation as iverson. To me we would have to have a Major trade or a Major Blow up.
Well in 3-4 years these guys will be somewhat "out of their prime". I can almost guarantee that this team will look different in 3 years, as all teams chage here and there in time. I still believe the re-building process has just begun with the hiring of a new coach. It would be a huge jump to assume Musselman inherited a team full of players that he wants to go forward with.
Just as a team going in a different direction has to change coaches, a coach has to bring in the players that fit what he wants to do. That step will come. Whether that means the core players are moved. All, one, two, or none time will tell, but I see some movement as highly likely within the next year. One person I don't see being moved is Ron Artest. The Maloofs love him too much. They also have a say in things but when the time comes they will listen to Muss and Petrie and what they think is best.
For me the rebuilding has not started yet until members of the old kings are gone and some of the vets are gone too. And we start with some new young faces.
