Heard something interesting about Hawes last night...

I went to the game with a bunch of friends last night and heard something pretty interesting from one of them regarding our boy Spencer Hawes. Apparently, her best friend has been dating Spencer for a while. I asked her if she had talked with Spencer about his struggles this year. He told her that hes "very intimidated" by other players, especially older players in the league. I know this comes across as sounding like an episode from the hills, but I thought it was interesting and wanted to pass it along...

I'm not really surprised. He looks intimidated by older or bigger guys out on the court. He just needs to forget that and be aggressive.

Wow, interesting...
Room for improvement with Spencer.

You'd think Spencer would at least fib a little around the girl to make himself look good :rolleyes:
 
Brockman needs to drag Spencer into the weightroom...

Its hard for some people to put on the pounds, but at the very least it'll raise Spencer's testosterone levels :p
 
So Hawes told a girl thats a so called friend, who told another friend who told you. Yeh, thats all I need for it to be creditable. I think he told Elvis too..

Does it not fit in with what we know about Spencer or something? It's not that hard to believe, actually. It's likely that Spencer has a girlfriend; it's likely that she has friends; it's likely that some of those friends occasionally go to Kings games; it's likely that a member of our board could run into someone who knows Spencer at a game. This is not all that far fetched, when you think about it.

Being scared of other players in the league doesn't really mesh with Hawes personality though. It's been talked about ever since he came out how he has a bit of a mean streak, and we've seen it a few times. If you pee him off he comes back strong (just not as much so this season)

Also, if you listen to the guy talk there' no shortage of ego or confidence coming through. It really doesn't match up with her personality to me. And, why would he tell his gf that?? Really?? Like she might not tell a friend that has a big mouth?

If he did tell her something like that, I'm sure he told her in confidence, which means a big old FAIL on her part.

And if he IS in fact intimidated, it must be by their strength. Then it comes back to get your butt in the gym work hard, and eat right.
 
If you played a game of word association on this board, "Spencer Hawes" and "soft" would be linked as much as "Doug Christie" and "whipped". It's not hard to believe that he's intimidated by other players. I don't have any legitimate way to determine whether the OP is accurate or not, but it's not a huge leap of faith to believe it.

Lack of physical strength is different than being emotionally affected such as scared, or intimidated. HUGE difference.

I would put Spencer in the former not the latter.

And as far as what the majority of this board thinks...........................................................................................

No bro, can you read? My friend talked to him directly.

This girl knows nothing about the sport of basketball and is not the type to just make something up like this. I've know her for years.

Believe what you want, I don't really give a ****.

I'd put him in the latter. There's a long list of guys in Spencer's weight class who play a lot tougher than he does. Toughness is a skill in itself.

the biggest problem here is that this story requires you to believe that a 21 year old male would tell a girl that he was afraid of other guys. Have any of you actually KNOWN any 21 year old males? :p

You know, nothing is impossible. But number one it just happens to fit into what some people on this fourm think. That makes it very convienient. Its also second hand, second hand information. For all we know it might be a girl that just broke up with Hawes and had an axe to grind. But mostly. If your a seven foot center in the NBA, are you seriously going to tell a girlfriend that the rest of the players scare you. I don't know about you, but even if I was scared, I wouldn't admit it to a possible girl friend.

Why would I, after 4 years of being on this site, make something so minor up like this out of the blue? It's not even that big of a deal! "Yeah, I don't like Hawes so I'm going to create this big elaborate story to try and prove a point on here?!" You know how ****ing dumb that sounds?

Whatever. I'm over it.
 
that may be the only time I've ever seen Hawes described as having a mean streak. he's one of the softest most back down when it gets rough players in the league

at least he admits it.

dont need proof like photo and stuff to convince me that he IS intimidated

i just wish he turns on his mean streak from time to time.. he did torch gasol and bynum.
