Extremely good news. Dodged a mammoth of a bullet it seems.

This means that he has not torn the ligaments but it also means that his shoulder will keep popping out but once its popped back in, it will be a bit sore but not painful. Eventually he will have to have a surgery which would tighten the shoulder up and he would be as good as new. The more the shoulder pops out, the looser the joint becomes. Might play for a while and decide to cut the season short and get the surgery done if we continue to suck.

Sometimes when there is not much to play for in terms of results, its better to get these things fixed up as soon as possible so it does not affect his preparation for next season.

I'm glad he's fine, but given that he had pain from that little hit, is ist really wise for him to play on Tueday?

I say that btw with all the hypocrisy of age, as when I popped mine out playing ball I played in a tennis tournament the next weekend while tossing my serve from my waist because that's as high as I could raise the arm. Still, given we're paying him millions, would perhaps be better if he didn't learn the hard way and end up truly reinjuring it.

Baseball was my main sport, but I also played football, basketball, tennis and ran track. But I had more injuries playing tennis than any other sport. Probably the constant quick change of directions. Tore my rotator cuff playing golf. Go figure!

It doesn't go over well with more macho types, but I actually consider tennis one of the most physically demanding sport there is -- wears out your body, and I do mean your whole body. Reason even the great ones are running on fumes by 30. And I did the rotator cuff in tennis, not golf. But am very excited to hear about your golf injury -- thought I was the only one who had one of those. Had to give up that sport. Too rough for me. :)

I dislocated my kneecap playing ping pong. It was a very intense game of ping pong!

Oh wow, I'm glad to hear that it isn't as serious as I thought. But still, he should get it taken care of permanently if it's possible after the season, or if god forbid it happens again.

I got a shoulder injury playing golf too. I think we're doing it wrong.

whew....keep up with the physical therapy and get those shoulder muscles stronger Chuck. I elected not to do surgery when I had my shoulder kept dislocating. I did those arm band exercises to strengthen the shoulder muscles and I stopped dislocating it.

Maybe Chuck should start banging guys with his bad shoulder. ;)

(since hitting them with his good shoulder keeps dislocating the bad one...)

That's amazing news! thought his season was over. So does anybody know exactly what happened then? If he re-dislocated his shoulder again I doubt he would be back so soon.

Gotta wonder if he won't be playing tentatively if taking a shot is going to give him a jolt of pain...still better that what's been on the floor.

Anybody who has gone through this and paid attention to the doctors knows more than anyone else on this forum. :)

Let's picture his joint as being very loose and in fact compare it to earlier this year when Tyreke rolled his ankle is such away that I thought we were in for a repeat of last year. Tyreke was examined and returned the next half. Now I am projecting the way I would react if I reinjured myself the way Hayes did a few days ago. The first reactions are fear of what happened 'cause your shoulder hurts and I am sure you start projecting your whole future all within a few seconds. That's where we last saw Hayes at the end of the game. Looked to be near tears. That was a reaction to having some pain from having his shoulder rattled around. Then he goes back into the locker room and finds that the pain is subsiding and maybe it really wasn't so bad just as when we saw Tyreke roll his ankle.

In other words, his shoulder may have rattled around in a loose socket yet not done any further damage. Then there is always the personality of Hayes. He's a warrior and although he must hurt, he will play. Remember I said my ancient memory drudged up the "fact" that injuries of this kind took 6 weeks to heal. Hayes tried to return after three weeks.

Now we know Brick is nuts to play tennis after such an injury but Hayes appparently has been through this before and knows what to expect. He didn't redislocate it.

I am tempted to do some reading but I have a feeling it will get me nowhere. I struck out on last year's dire predictions about Tyreke so have been humbled. :) Oh, hell no!!! Who am I kidding? :)

I don't know about surgery. Nothing. Zip. Nada. The shoulder is complicated. There are ligaments pointing this way and that and then there is harder tissue that can be torn. I hope he doen't need surgery and can be taped with maybe another layer of tape. Heck, maybe with luck he can avoid geting spun around so abruptly. Yeah, sure. Imagine how loose that shoulder is.

At the least he should not take part in full contact practice. Whatta mess.

I think you are dead on with this one. I doubt his shoulder hurt as much as his reaction showed, but rather he just thought he must have re-injured it and was devastated. I saw a similar reaction as Tyreke slammed his hand on the ground when he thought he must have re-injured his ankle. I for one, am glad to see both of these guys that upset about the idea of missing more court time.

I wouldnt go that far. i have had chronic shoulder dislocations for years. Two surgeries later, my shoulder is still in terrible shape. Ive been told my shoulder will never be back to normal ever again. Luckily for hayes he has professional trainers and physical therapists, but i wouldnt say he's out of the woods just yet. you never know with these things and if he's going to continue to play in this shortened season, he's putting himself at an increased rate for chronic injury. Hopefully he recovers better than i did!
