Hall of Famer
This one is from the time when Kings ruled the NBA

On February 12th 2002 King beat Spurs 99 - 86 to improve to NBA's best 39 -12 and to increase the home winning streak to 19 games:eek:. Pedja had 23/6/2/2st, Webber had his usual 20/12/5/4bl/2st, Mike had 12/3/10, Vlade has 6/8/2st and DC had 8/4/2. Scot had 10/11 of the bench and Hedo and Bobby had 8 pts each.

"I thought Sacramento did a great job of pushing the ball in transition, and that's the thing we were most concerned about going in," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. "They got 20 fast-break points and that's what really hurt us. That was the game for us. Especially in the first half when we combined poor transition defense with 11 turnovers and they took advantage of it and jumped on us at that point."

Sacramento led by as many as 20 points at 75-55 after Scot Pollard hit a pair of free throws with less than a minute to go in the third quarter. Chris Webber added 20 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks for the Kings, who improved to a league-best 26-1 at home, where they have not lost since a 102-114 overtime setback to Dallas on December 2.

"It was a real solid win for us," Kings coach Rick Adelman said.

(vintage RA)

"Tonight was a big win because we didn't want to lose two in a row,"said Kings center Vlade Divac, who had six points and
eight rebounds. "We lost last week in Washington, so after the break we really needed to come big, and I think we did."

----------------------------------------------------------------
Kings at 22-28 passed up a good opportunity to improve in the standings by losing last night when all the other scores favored us. Tonight the opportunity is even stronger because Kings don't play till tomorow. If Warriors and Wolves lose tonight, Kings can tomorow at HOME skip 2 places in the standings. Kings play at home where they won 7 straight and should win that one. Until then still last in the Pacific and desperate, very desperate, extremly desperate for a road victory. 4-4 after the trade. 4 - 0 at home and 0 - 4 on the road. Go figure.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Only good teams with strong leadership win on the road consistently. Only solid defensive teams win consistently on the road. To win on the road - You have to:

a) come out sharp with lot's of energy. Sustain all the runs, manage the clock, beat the crowd, the refs, defend

b)have a great team eith a superstar and win on talent

c) play Knicks

well, we played Knicks already, we can't win on talent because there isn't enough left
---------------------------------------------------------------
Mike Bibby is the longst tenured King at the moment. Since the trade he seems to have steped back a little. He can do that at home and we can still win. On the road Kings can only win when Mike brings his A game because he is the closest player we have to a PG. Mike Bibby is a good player. Not an all star but a player who is good enough for 30 wins. He is asked to do too much this season and he looks tired at the moment and I can't blame him. The problem is that we have absolutely noone behind him to give him a break.
---------------------------------------------------------------
End of the game situations are tricky but also very simple. You go with what works best, what is most comfortable and what worked before. Kings had many ways to execute in the past. Webber & Bibby 2 man game, Pedja & Vlade hand off, Vlade & Webber high-low play. Pick and roll with numerous combinations, Vlade and Webber in the post etc. Now we have only one left and it is Mike and Brad 2 man game with either Mike or brad taking a jump shot. Hard to execute when both of them are on the bench. I uderstand the decision but we can't waste games. We needed a good shot down the strech and did not get a single one. I don't care how bad they played the whole game. If we have a chance to win a game on the road - those are the 2 players who will either get it done or not. And we have got to live with it. While they defensivly suck and that is not really a news, it doesn't change anything. You have got to go with players that have gotten it done in the past. You just can't waste games to prove a point.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Wierd game last night. We "overslept" the first quarter. we looke horrible, did not defend but stayed with it and despite Mike going AWOL - we cut it down to 2 but Suns have a MVP and he is a MVP for a reason. Ron tried to win it for us but the guy has not played for 2 years and is injured so we are asking too much. We needed a stop and we did not get it - sounds oh so familiar.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Tonight we play Hawks and hawks are as bad as it gets. Saying that - thay have beaten teams like Spurs and Pistons. If we don't play our best for 48 minutes anything can happen. This game is ours to lose but we have been playing very well at home. Hawks are terrible on the road. They are also very young and we should take an advantage of of that.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Mike - will bounce back. Hawks have several no names on this position. That is usually never good for us
Brad - playing solid considering the injury. Should have good game and maybe get on a poster or two
Ron - need help. Still not in best shape or health but the pills are working well.
SAR - done with diet and needs to give us more. Maybe his former team will inspire him.
Bonzi - get well soon
--------------------------------------------------------------
Kevin - plays well at home so he might be big again. Needs to prove the same on the road
Cisco - kid is playing well outside of his position.
KT - we have enough jump shooters. At least he rebounds.
Skinner - never know when thos 5 minutes wil come up.
Corliss - How long is his contract /3
Hart - I though he couldn't play worse but I was wrong again
Price & Sampson - Mateen
-------------------------------------------------------------
RA - sometimes - he just doesn't make any sense
------------------------------------------------------------
Hawks - the master himself will be in town. Let's hope that Hawks coaching stuff don't get any ideas here. Johnson and Harrington need to be contained. Josh Smith will dunk several times tomorow. My favorite for TDM award is Stoudamire.
---------------------------------------------------------------
UPDATE
Wolves did lose but Warriors won so we can only make up one spot tonight. On the other hand - Lakers lost - always a pleasure

Word.

Another great intro, piksi...

:D

Really good stuff, Pik.. I hope the Kings can win one. I will be looking for Mike to have a much better game.

GO KINGS!!!

Tony Delk Memorial.

Piksi can explain further.

Ahh I get it... Tony Delk... He dropped 50 one game even though he's barely a bench player. The Kings somehow make one bench player every game look 10x better than he is... Gotcha...

Of course I hope for a Kings win but don't count this as an easy game. If the Hawks get going they cna be hard to stop especially he way Johnson and Harrington can play. They're not as bad as their record indicates. I also think TDM could be Williams.

The TDM master has been benched all season because of young players needing their opportunities...So we wont see a Tony Delk repeat tonight.

As for TDM prediction, hyper-athletic Marvin Williams wins it with 15 points and 13 rebounds.

That beng said, Kings win pretty easily.

I agree that this isn't a gimmie. The Kings need to play hard. The Hawks aren't a great team, but they can surprise anyone. Can Artest handle Joe Johnson.

The Hawks also have one X-factor. Josh Childress has such an ugly jumpshot that it's hard to tell if he's going to shoot or pass in that first split second. The Hawks might use that to their advantage.

And let's not forget Salim Stoudamire's potential to go Tony Delk on the Kings.

While we are reminiscing about the past I fast forward to this years Kings...

As far as this year goes this is the type of game that the Kings should win even as we sit at the bottom of the Pacific. Few teams are worse but the Hawks are one of them.

Kings pre-Artest, played to the level of the opponent which is usually a sign of a bad team. Now we forward to the Artest era. I think things may have turned a tad and we are a much more competitive team. To me this is one of those games to show were the Kings are. Do they play down to ATL's level or do they play their game? This is the question of the night.

If we don't win these games there is no chance in hell we make the playoffs.

This is a game we should win.

The Hawks are like the Kings were years ago. They have NOTHING to lose, which makes them very dangerous.

They've beaten the Pistons, they've beaten the Spurs. The Kings MUST out sharp, stay sharp and stay focused for 48 minutes.

If we lose this one we almost definitely don't go to the playoffs. This is a home game against a second or third tier team.

I wouldn't make too much of the Detroit loss to the Hawks. Detroit has almost a guaranteed lock on the 1st seed in the east, they're 10 games ahead of their nearest competitor, Miami. That game was meaningless to them, if it mattered they would have won it.

We should win this one, provided we treat it with respect.

I RARELY read the News and Review...but was on the train and someone left one in the seat next to me and figured what the heck. I cant stand the SN&R, all they have there are a bunch of pop-culturists that are casual observers to everything, pretty much...they were like a year late in an article they did on the whole arena thing(which just made them look real novice, in my eyes), but anyway, here's there take, 2 weeks late on the Ron trade...its funny, they didnt mention the Maloofs 1 time...THEY were the ones who made this trade more-so than Petrie, as we Kings fans know...anyways, hope you get a good pre-game laugh like I did when I read it:

Artest, Peja and dirty laundry

Peja Stojakovic for Ron Artest?

In basketball terms, this was a no-brainer. The Kings traded a pillow-soft small forward with a nice jumper and poor defensive skills for one of the better players in the league, a great defender who can score, a potential all-pro. In terms of sheer ability and achievement, there is no question that the Kings got the better player.

But Artest comes with some heavy baggage that makes this trade the riskiest in the Kings’ history. Given his long history of fighting with players, fans, officials and coaches; missed practices; obscene gestures; and out-of-control behavior, it’s just a matter of time before he does something else that will be an embarrassment to himself, the sport, the league and the team. The only question is when it’ll happen--and what will be left of the Kings when he’s done.

No one can blame Geoff Petrie, the team’s general manager, for making this deal. Petrie gets paid to evaluate players without the kind of sentimentality fans attach to their idols, and his goal is to put a winning squad on the floor. The great team he built around Chris Webber and Vlade Divac was a wonder to behold, but Petrie took it apart just as quickly as he put it together as soon as it became clear that Vlade’s back and Webber’s knees could no longer bear the weight of championship aspirations. He moved Vlade, C-Webb, Doug Christie, Bobby Jackson and a long list of others with grim efficiency, and most of the trades made good sense.

But the Peja-Artest trade is something different. It didn’t just alter the starting lineup; it changed the nature of the team--and its relationship with the community. During the Divac-Webber years, the Kings may have been “soft.” They may have been all offense. But they were also a lovable, tightly knit group of guys who genuinely liked each other and played with brains, skill and a marked absence of the selfishness that is all too common in the NBA. Dare we say it? They made us proud to be from Sacramento.

With Artest, all that changes. The Kings become better in the key areas that define post-season success: rebounding, defense and half-court offense. But they also become less unique and much more like every other run-of-the-mill NBA team: a collection of rootless, self-obsessed super athletes with no pretense of any real connection to the community. In the short term, they’ll play better, but sooner or later, Artest will explode, prompting another round of trades--or worse.

Being a pro-sports fan, as Jerry Seinfeld observed, is like “rooting for laundry.” Players come and go from team to team, and fans are left to root for whoever winds up wearing the local colors. Sometimes, even the teams themselves move, as the rumors of the Kings leaving Sacramento only remind us. For a few golden years, it seemed like Sacramento had something different. Now, with Artest in a Kings uniform, that suddenly seems like a very long time ago.

Steve Smith's talking to SAR here, he says they're all feeding off Ron's energy. He said the hardest thing about having his jaw wired shut was not being able to communicate. He talked about his time with the Hawks. Nothing earth shattering.

So, the Hawks didn't go to the line the whole quarter...how about knocking somebody sideways on one of those dunks or layups? Something.

we need to make a push here.

If You keep a bad team around for too long - You building their confidence up and - You are playing with fire

ugly pace in the 1st qtr., Atlanta isnt pretty, as to be expected by their record, but they catch you off gaurd every once and a while on the court...on thing we should be working on is the backcourt positions...we definetely have an advantage at both spots
