Hall of Famer
This one is from the time when Kings ruled the NBA
On February 12th 2002 King beat Spurs 99 - 86 to improve to NBA's best 39 -12 and to increase the home winning streak to 19 games
. Pedja had 23/6/2/2st, Webber had his usual 20/12/5/4bl/2st, Mike had 12/3/10, Vlade has 6/8/2st and DC had 8/4/2. Scot had 10/11 of the bench and Hedo and Bobby had 8 pts each.
"I thought Sacramento did a great job of pushing the ball in transition, and that's the thing we were most concerned about going in," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. "They got 20 fast-break points and that's what really hurt us. That was the game for us. Especially in the first half when we combined poor transition defense with 11 turnovers and they took advantage of it and jumped on us at that point."
Sacramento led by as many as 20 points at 75-55 after Scot Pollard hit a pair of free throws with less than a minute to go in the third quarter. Chris Webber added 20 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks for the Kings, who improved to a league-best 26-1 at home, where they have not lost since a 102-114 overtime setback to Dallas on December 2.
"It was a real solid win for us," Kings coach Rick Adelman said.
(vintage RA)
"Tonight was a big win because we didn't want to lose two in a row,"said Kings center Vlade Divac, who had six points and
eight rebounds. "We lost last week in Washington, so after the break we really needed to come big, and I think we did."
----------------------------------------------------------------
Kings at 22-28 passed up a good opportunity to improve in the standings by losing last night when all the other scores favored us. Tonight the opportunity is even stronger because Kings don't play till tomorow. If Warriors and Wolves lose tonight, Kings can tomorow at HOME skip 2 places in the standings. Kings play at home where they won 7 straight and should win that one. Until then still last in the Pacific and desperate, very desperate, extremly desperate for a road victory. 4-4 after the trade. 4 - 0 at home and 0 - 4 on the road. Go figure.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Only good teams with strong leadership win on the road consistently. Only solid defensive teams win consistently on the road. To win on the road - You have to:
a) come out sharp with lot's of energy. Sustain all the runs, manage the clock, beat the crowd, the refs, defend
b)have a great team eith a superstar and win on talent
c) play Knicks
well, we played Knicks already, we can't win on talent because there isn't enough left
---------------------------------------------------------------
Mike Bibby is the longst tenured King at the moment. Since the trade he seems to have steped back a little. He can do that at home and we can still win. On the road Kings can only win when Mike brings his A game because he is the closest player we have to a PG. Mike Bibby is a good player. Not an all star but a player who is good enough for 30 wins. He is asked to do too much this season and he looks tired at the moment and I can't blame him. The problem is that we have absolutely noone behind him to give him a break.
---------------------------------------------------------------
End of the game situations are tricky but also very simple. You go with what works best, what is most comfortable and what worked before. Kings had many ways to execute in the past. Webber & Bibby 2 man game, Pedja & Vlade hand off, Vlade & Webber high-low play. Pick and roll with numerous combinations, Vlade and Webber in the post etc. Now we have only one left and it is Mike and Brad 2 man game with either Mike or brad taking a jump shot. Hard to execute when both of them are on the bench. I uderstand the decision but we can't waste games. We needed a good shot down the strech and did not get a single one. I don't care how bad they played the whole game. If we have a chance to win a game on the road - those are the 2 players who will either get it done or not. And we have got to live with it. While they defensivly suck and that is not really a news, it doesn't change anything. You have got to go with players that have gotten it done in the past. You just can't waste games to prove a point.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Wierd game last night. We "overslept" the first quarter. we looke horrible, did not defend but stayed with it and despite Mike going AWOL - we cut it down to 2 but Suns have a MVP and he is a MVP for a reason. Ron tried to win it for us but the guy has not played for 2 years and is injured so we are asking too much. We needed a stop and we did not get it - sounds oh so familiar.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Tonight we play Hawks and hawks are as bad as it gets. Saying that - thay have beaten teams like Spurs and Pistons. If we don't play our best for 48 minutes anything can happen. This game is ours to lose but we have been playing very well at home. Hawks are terrible on the road. They are also very young and we should take an advantage of of that.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Mike - will bounce back. Hawks have several no names on this position. That is usually never good for us
Brad - playing solid considering the injury. Should have good game and maybe get on a poster or two
Ron - need help. Still not in best shape or health but the pills are working well.
SAR - done with diet and needs to give us more. Maybe his former team will inspire him.
Bonzi - get well soon
--------------------------------------------------------------
Kevin - plays well at home so he might be big again. Needs to prove the same on the road
Cisco - kid is playing well outside of his position.
KT - we have enough jump shooters. At least he rebounds.
Skinner - never know when thos 5 minutes wil come up.
Corliss - How long is his contract /3
Hart - I though he couldn't play worse but I was wrong again
Price & Sampson - Mateen
-------------------------------------------------------------
RA - sometimes - he just doesn't make any sense
------------------------------------------------------------
Hawks - the master himself will be in town. Let's hope that Hawks coaching stuff don't get any ideas here. Johnson and Harrington need to be contained. Josh Smith will dunk several times tomorow. My favorite for TDM award is Stoudamire.

UPDATE
Wolves did lose but Warriors won so we can only make up one spot tonight. On the other hand - Lakers lost - always a pleasure
