Hassan Whiteside

I'm one of those that believes that Hassan won't amount much of anything, if at all. I think he's going to be a waste of a 2nd round pick, not that most of em aren't anyways so it all depends on how hard he wants to work and if he CAN learn. He just seems slooooowww to me based on how he talks in his interviews. Sure, that's unfair to judge him based on that but I guess it's just more of a feeling than anything else. Now, I do hope he proves me wrong but I really won't hold my breath. One last thing, I don't think there should be a thread about this guy, he isn't going to play this year most likely barring an injury or something and there really isn't much to talk about here until we see some significant time in the NBA.

People said the same thing about DeAndre Jordan.. I was the only one who BEEEELIEEEEVED!!

As for Whiteside.. I think it's 50-50... I wanted him in the draft and thought his potential was a steal in the 2nd round. Whether he's good or not I don't know.. Part of me says yes, but then part of me says "THABEEEEET"

I think that it is entirely possible that Hassan doesn't have a clue how to play basketball nor does he have the intelligence to learn. He looks like he should be a great player but perhaps looks are deceiving in this case. The writing is not only on the wall but may replace one of those huge signs the Maloofs used to promote Rek and Cuz. He drops like a stone inthe draft. He was sent to Reno because even in PW's "let's use the guy who hasn't played in a few weeks" rotation, there was no room for Hassan. He didn't get minutes at Reno which most were inclined to blame on the coach, came back here, and hasn't even suited up. I doubt if the problem is that they can't find a uniform to fit.

What does that tell ya? It was a wild pick to get a guy to play the Dalembert role and it failed badly. Let's move on. Meanwhile, maybe we can find a league somewhre in the world where he can get minutes and in a few years he'll develop into something but I see no reason to use valuable minutes on him in the Kings' lineup. Some of our better athletes still need time on the court to get a grasp of the NBA game and to mature into great veterans.

I think his primary problem is about 5 feet above his knees.

With all due respect, to put a label on a player that hasn't even had a chance to play yet as stupid or incapable of learning is ridiculous. Its well known that he had a learning disability, and it affected his progress. I personally don't think it helped to be the big dog on the block at Marshall. Had he gone to UCLA or some similar school, he wouldn't have been the headliner, but he would have been forced to learn the fundamentals of the game. Now I criticized the hell out of him prior to the draft. Not because I didn't think he had talent, but because I didn't think he should be drafted as high as most mock drafts or fans on this fourm thought he should. At the same time I thought he was an absolute steal in the second round.

The Kings said he would be a long term project when they drafted him. Long term doesn't mean one half of a season in which he has had no playing time. It usually means a couple of years. Now he may never pan out to be the player we want him to be. But I hardly think anyone can make a judgement on that right now.

Way too early to make a determination on Whiteside. I thought he looked good in the summer league. Nice outside bank shot, good footwork on a hook shot, and he made his presence felt on D. He hasn't played BB that long. Maybe it takes him a couple of years.

From what I saw he was already making progress on his foul problems in the D league even in just the limited minutes he was getting and he had very very good per minute stats it was not foul trouble that kept him from even seeing the floor it was a coaches decision.

Right. And that coach would be Eric Musselman, who might well let anyone we send him rot on the bench, regardless of their merits.

Well as we all know, big men take longer to develop so we really won't see what we have in him for a couple of seasons. By then I don't think he will be relevant at all to us since by then I'm sure the Kings will be in the playoffs again and he will be either traded, waived or riding the bench.
