You do realize that the little girl's mother has recently died and that she's obviously still mourning and coping and that the interviewer, while having to do her job, was trying every way she could to be sensitive to the young girl, right? Kids love Disneyland so she was trying to cheer the kid up after getting some perhaps tough news that now she has to move all the way to California, as the girl responded to the first question about moving "It's a long way from home."

They should have not put his sister in that position in the first place on live TV. If they wanted to run something with her it should have been a recorded story piece. The reporter is an idiot. Telling a 9 year you will be close to disneyland that is 500 miles away.

they interviewed a family member of all the draftees in the green room. every kid knows what disneyland is and disneyland is a lot closer to sac than it is to DC. how else would you cheer up a 9 year old from the east coast who is scared of moving to california? telling her that sacramento is close to funderland?

Assuming the girls knows what Disneyland is might be a stretch also. It was an awful idea to interview her.

just to clarify -
their mom died almost a year and a half ago : 1/22/2011

It was the situation that caused their mother to be pushed to the forefront of their thoughts - Thomas "graduating" to the NBA, his work paying off, the next phase of their lives starting, the other draftees' families being there, etc.

I understand both sides - it was normal for ESPN to try to interview the girl, but it was cringe-worthy to watch her freeze up.

Exactly. Just another reason I hate those stupid interviews. The lack of anything resembling tact or even common sense is mind-boggling.
