Don't Make Me Use The Bat

It is a good thing I do not care anymore, or nights like tonight would actually upset me. As it is, since the team itself provides no inspiration I have decided that the only way to justify the continuation of the grades thread tradition is to start having theme nights to justify their existence.

Tonight's theme: Grades Thread, Pretty Girls Edition:
(and yes, anticipating the standard complaint, if I stay at this long enough I am secure enough in my manhood to run a Pretty Men Edition as well, though I will have to take some suggestions lest you want to get Earl the plumber crack guy).

Artest ( A- ) -- huge first half dueling with Arenas, but knew it could not last. Missed a lot of FTs, including some painful ones late. Made spectacular defenisve plays, but had limited luck checking either Butler or Arenas. Wanted to play hero late and there was some selfishness. Threw in a bad foul with 1.4 seconds left in the game to let the Wiz get the FT and the ball back.

Bite me babe! Seriously was there ANY other reason to watch that movie?

Thomas ( D ) -- have I mentioned how much I just loooovee KT recently? Seriously, I resent that I am not biologically capable of having his love child. Almost nothing from Kenny again -- trade deadlines make no difference for him. Did favor us with a hot streak of 3 second violations in the third quarter. Then went away until being called upon to try to stand alongside the key and try to grab potentially missed FTs in the dying seconds. Very valuable player when he doesn't even rebound let me tell you.

I was never even really a fan. But damn.

Miller ( B ) -- tough one to grade with Brad doing nothing, then stepping up and playing a major part in our almost loss. Was helped along considerably by Eddie "Sugar Pop" Jordan putting on full display why coaching the East All Star team means exactly jack and squat -- seems Eddie decided midway through a game that he was dominating that the best way to proceed was to to bench all his players taller than 6'8" and just throw out Michael Ruffin and Darius Songaila as a "frontline". Anyway, no factor at all with his own offense, as its been all season -- at this point if you held a gun to Brad's mom and told Brad shoot the ball or the old bat gets it, ma would be in big trouble. But nonetheless there came Brad down the stretch making an impact, get this, by playing like a big man. Of course did not hurt that as mentioned he WAS the only big man on the court. But rebounding picked up, and he came up with a couple of those little surprise blocks of his where an opponent driving by the big traffic cone with the ball on his hip is shocked to learn that the cone does actually have arms. And his control of the glass late made a big difference as we tried to lin this one. Also made a great 3/4 court pass to Salmons on the play that could have sent us to OT -- which is pointless because we lose all those games anyway, but still a nice pass.

Speaking of which...like a living doll. A living sophisticated doll. Remarkable.

Martin ( C+ ) -- ho hum and a bottle of rum. Much better rounded effort than last time out (indeed how could it not be), and gets the grade he does for that. But he was very quiet almost all game, and certainly down the stretch. Most of his shots were created by others as well. And on the night he was pretty clearly outplayed by DeShawn Stevenson. On the more positive side he moved the ball well and led the team in assists, and while our "defense" allowed another 109pts, and the guys Kevin were guarding certainly weren't bothered much, he was at least active on that end and scooped up a number of balls in this sloppy affair. More of a roleplaying afterthought in this one though.

Hi.

Bibby ( A- ) -- so with an effort like this do you say "yay finally!" Or do you say "**** you Mike" for immediately fueling Pejaesque speculation as to why there was such a before and after in his performances. Anyway, as you might have guessed, abruptly had a big hot shooting night. Not that the Wizards are exactly known for preventing people form having big hot shooting nights. But Mike has just been dead to the world for weeks, so this was out of left field and its very hard not to draw the connection between this outing and the passing of the trade deadline. In any case, started hot, stayed hot, and in the 4th it was Mike going nuts and just chucking in garbage shots form all over the court that provided the bulk of our offensive push to secure another almost win. Did however kill us with a late turnover (although came up with the saavy trip from behind to save a surefire layup), and of course the Wizards two backcourt guys ate him up -- were intentionally isolating and attacking. Mike actually showed some pride in trying to prevent it. But pride with no talent or athleticisim only gets you so far.

Caught my eye in the obscure little series Firely, and not so obscure movie Serenity. One Morena Baccarin.

Reef ( C ) -- man, every additional night of Kereef Abdur-Rhomas make sDrew Gooden look better and better doesn't it? Er...had a couple of nice scores insdied, also a couple of forces, his normal turnover etc. Rebounds continue to cause blisters and therefore be avoided whenever possible. But the league's youngest octagenarian did actually got up on defense a couple of times and along with Brad came up wiht a surprise block or two. Still another night of blah, and man, just playing against NOBODY either. Andeww Blatche, Darius Songaila, Michael Ruffin oh my.

Of course still hangin with women half her age, but didn't seem fair to have a picture of her at 45 next to everybody else's at 25, so a lovely vintage shot.

Cisco ( B- ) -- was having an ineffective outing until he hit a three in the early 4th. And actually statistically CONTINUES to hae an inefective outing. In fact all it would seem from the numbers he did was foul people. And yet this os one of those games where there may have been more to it than the numbers -- began to make himself a pest as the quarter wore on, just jumping in front of people and whatnot and helping cause mistakes by the Wiz. Played a role in our comeback. Then of course helped scuttle it with careless turnovers down the stretch. Finally fouled out and turned the careless turnover responsibilities over to Salmons.

Speaking of vintage...Audrey...not sure what is up with the dog though.

Corliss ( F ) -- terrible night for Corliss. I mean, he just couldn't do anything right. Seemed every other possession he was committing an offensive foul, traveling, forcing a bad shot. Just bad bad bad, and sorry Corliss my man, bad bad bad = F F F.

Ok, she's not so beautiful, but I thought appropriate given Corliss's game. Besides, she might be the world's hottest 115 yr old.

Salmons ( C- ) -- for 99% of this one did nothing for us this time, and with the Wizards crashing down to cut off his penetration, did not seem to have any answers. Then topped it off by committing the killer turnover on our possession to try to tie the game in the dying seconds. Classic thing that Philly fans hated him for. But he was only getting started, as next thing you know he was trying desperately to fool you and save his grade by hitting a three to get us within 1, and then coming back to hit, well kinda, the miracle tying three with .5 second to go. Only problem being that he shot it after the buzzer. But I'm a more experiecned grader than that. And making the killer turnover to lose the game only to come back down and ALMOST save it right back is still a net negative.

Kim is right up there on the all time list IMHO.

Price ( INC ) -- here ya go kid, go guard Gilbert Arenas! Brought in very early as the best answer we could think of to try to slow down the unstoppable Arenas express in the first half. How you think that went?

You knew this one was coming, and there is at least one happy camper here. From drinking blood, to U.N. Ambassador and now classic Hollywood queen of glamour. What a trip.

Muss ( ) -- what to say? We almost won. Haha. Really. Muss called some well placed timeouts, and his situational substituion fetish worked better for him this time out -- trying Price on Arenas was worth a shot, he once subbed in Bibby to immediately can a three for us, bringing in Kenny to secure the free throw line rebounds late (well, try) etc. But of course as usual we could not get the right guys shots in the end. Ok, enough of that...onto the girl!

Hey...somebody had to get this spot right? And she always has been a remarkable beauty. Besides...she divorced Rick Fox! Bonus points.

Jordan ( ) -- Good exuse for one more pic...confused me with his attempt to tank the game with extended minutes for Micahel Ruffin (who obviously has pictures of a naked Abe Polin (Wiz owner) with a goat to maintain his employment), Roger Mason Jr., and Jarvis Hayes. Aren't they still in the playoff hunt? But not to fear, we are nearly tank proof.

Not the pic of the aptly named Charisma I WAS going to go with, but a little self editing.

Suggestion #1: You know that picture you sent me that you stole off myspace? Yeah, that one... he doesn't make the list.

Close, but no cigar.

I waiting for the "pretty man" edition. Maybe we can get that for the next game!:D
I request NO (in caps for emphasis) "pretty man" edition. This one works just fine, thanks. :D

I do hereby request the following themes:

Sci-fi aliens
California governor movies
Another few pretty girls editions thrown in for good measure (and you did well, young grasshopper, with this one)
Famous TV cars
Funny Kings pictures
Airplane scenes
Monty Python "Holy Grail" scenes

and, well, anything else that comes to mind as well. ;) :D

At least we can take some solace in the fact that, while Peja was possibly taking a dive to force a trade to somewhere else, Mike may have actually been taking a dive to force another season in Sac.

Loyalty counts for everything. ;)

I'd like to suggest a "Chick Flicks" grade thread, since we all know Brick is an expert on that topic.

:p

What, no bald Britney in rehab pics? I guess you're saving that one for when we really stink it up.

John Salmons trying to lose us balls in the last second, what was he thinking?
