Don't Make Me Use The Bat
Well this should be exciting.

Otay...with them coming fast and furious now, I have decided trying to group the lovely ladies by theme is just slowing me down, so I am just going to simplify with a Pretty Girls: Just Girls (and as it turns out Guys...and of course Goats) theme.

Some nifty new records BTW: 4th worst loss in Sacto era history (surpassing even our awesome Boston effort back in December! Woot!); worst loss in NBA this season; largest margin of victory in history of the Suns' arena (been there 16 years, so figure 1300 games or so). Also worth noting: was the sixth time this season we've lost by 30 or more. 12th time we've lost by 20 or more. And that's 12 straight opponents we've allowed to score 100+. (pillaged the Bee's stats department for those lovely figures), during which time opposing teams have averaged a cool 120 pts a game. 120. So, we're off:

Salmons ( C ) -- I assume JRich was his man in the early going, and I say assume because whoever was supposed to be guarding Richardson wasn't within 50 feet on a single play in the first quarter. Normally that would indicate it was Kevin, but since Grant Hill was busy lighting our OG up, guess JRich was Salmons' man. If you ever wanted to know what an NBA player's field goal percentage would look like if he was not guarded, check out JRich's 10-12 evening, much of it just by beating our lazy asses down the floor again and again on the break. Yet it must be said that John was pretty much the only guy playing after a while, and in the late second quarter took it at Hill in what may have been all that kept the Suns from being up 40 at half (they were up a mere 30). Had 17 points at half, but then got the memo about how gauche it is to break a sweat in these things, and did nothing after the break, even when Natt again still had him out there to pad his stats with us down 50. Was a significant part of our comically inept turnover performance with 5. Couldn't pass, couldn't dribble, otherwise it was nifty.
3Rebecca-Gayheart.jpg

Rebecca Gayheart -- former Noxema beauty and spotty actress. Just don't let her drive the kids to school, she has shown a tendency to treat children like bowling pins once you put her behind the wheel (got up on a vehicular manslaughter charge in '01 for running over a 9 yr old).

Thompson ( C ) -- not as solid as the numbers (12pts 8rebs) might indicate, as it was 8 and 4 while the game was still under 40, and Jason got his butt kicked in there along with the rest of our frontline against the Suns rotation players. Drew the early Shaq assignment, got overpowered once, but was not horrible before moving over to try Amare. That went less well. Turned it over with some ragged play, and Amare began to power through him. Suns broke up most of his dunk attempts, and the pummeling inside the other way was epic. Amare and Shaq just punded us, with a little help from their friends (like all of them). Let's put it this way...remember Louis Admundson? Our little Las Veags training camp scrub from a couple of years back? Well, if you had just watched this game as your first NBA game you might have walked away more impressed by him than any of the Kings current bigs. Got into huge foul trouble again, and only lasted 26 minutes before fouling out. Padded those stats up in the forever garbagetime until the foulout on the likes of Raul Lopez and Jared Dudley.
04647_Belen-Rodriguez_7Pocket_Lugli.jpg

Belen Rodriguez -- this one was a special request/suggestion, and why not on this sort of night huh? Spanish language futbol (soccer) announcer as I understand it. Lovely lady, although as a general rule when you're the sort of girl who's boyfriend (some soccer player) fails a steroid test because of a medicine you are taking to control your STDs, its not a great hotness enhancer.

Hawes ( D+ ) -- defense on Shaq looked decent to start as he was at least impediing him for a few minutes, but Diesel began to chug and Spencer wasn't able to do much about it. Could not get his own shot to fall and n the other end it became a rather extraordinary dunkfest inside again. Spencer was credited with 3 blocks, but for all the interior defense that indicated (the Suns scored 60+ pts n the paint) we might as well just have had Miller out there. At least Spencer seemed to be competing in there and grabbed some boards but it was a good old fashined whipping. In long garbagetime minutes (Spencer went almost the whole way in this debacle) for whatever reason our 7'0" center had all kinds of problems against Jared Dudley, who is a SF, getting the ball repeatedly slapped and stripped away, unable to finish over him, and at several points passing up seemingly obvious post opportunities against him because he had no comfort zone.
Poeticsoul-EcE-187805.jpg

Ali Zafar -- see? Its Pakistani crooner Ali Zafar, Asia's 4th sexiest man according to some publication. Because I keep track of things like that.

Martin ( F ) -- Just fugly. Competitive for about 6 minutes getting scored around by Hill easily on defense, but drawing fouls the other way. But could not get his shots to fall and just disappeared as we were blown off the court. Just started passively, hopelessly, chucking after half. Wandering on over halfcourt and randomly throwing up a desperation three every few minutes. Hit one, but this was a nothing night. Ironically was the only guy back on defense on the break several times in the third, I think basically just because he wasn't even running down on offense. And you suspect that has to be fatigue, because if there is one thing Kevin will never miss, it is a chance to shoot (the other possibility is that it was my old pick up game strategy, since you know in those games nobody is going to get back on defense, just completely abandon the offense and run back yourself every time just so somebody, anybody is there to stop the break). While the 37pt OKC outing wasn't well rounded and had its warts, you could hardly come up with a bigger whiplash game on the back to back. His guarantee a month ago that there would be no more of these embarrassments has proven to be quite hollow, and I think underscores the lack of leadership on this team. Nobody listened, and Kevin's response seems to be to just throw up his hands and quit right along with the rest of them as things spiral.
05-tyrese-gibson-103007.jpg

Tyrese Gibson -- and why not a back to back for the ladies? Tyrese Gibson, who as you can see could be a body double for Kevin.

Udrih ( D- ) -- another player who did a decent job for about 6 minutes, got a couple of steals, but also got into early foul trouble hanging with Nash as the blowout built. From that point onward did absolutely nothing except rack up more fouls, probably in an effort to foul out so he wouldn't have to be apart of this mess any longer. Obviously was completely ineffective running the team (not that an Oscar Robertson/Magic Johnson PG platoon could have breathed life into this crew tonight), and was just a (presumably) warm body out there until he was mercifully pulled for the last itme. I say presumably warm because we considerably resembled corpses out there.
kathy-ireland-bicycle.JPG

Kathy Ireland -- squeaky voiced co-queen of an entire era of Sports Illustrated swimsuit editions in the early 90s (with Elle MacPherson), atrocious actress, and now I think has a line of clothing or something.

Brown ( F ) -- came in gunning, and missing, once again in the first thalf, and was not helping. Joined the turnover problem, got lit up on defense, and you hope this back to back hasn't turned into Bobby's Quincy Douby moment -- given an opening to start a game and then get major minutes in this one if he had just played, he instead shoots 1-13 and makes himself almost unplayable, and how much confidence will the coaches have in him as an option going forward?
christinahendricks-gallery-43.jpg

Christina Hendricks -- of Firefly and Mad Men, and her super subtle appeal.

Moore ( D+ ) -- in in the first presumably because his quickness might matchup wiht a team running down our throats, and actually had one bright moment, becoming the only King on the entire night to get back and properly defend a fastbreak, more or less singlehandedly stopping a 3 on 1 break. But other than that, once again a whole lot of nothing tangible. And htis becomes now weeks since he's given us anything at all. Its been nearly a month since he was moved ot the bench, and in that month he has scored exactly 4 points for us. Four. If this was how he had played off the bench his entire journeyman career, there would have been no career. Old Mikki did whatever he could to make himself useful and so kept on catching on with teams depsite his limitations. Our Mikki got an undeserved taste of starting and I think it ruined him. Now coming off the bench is not good enough anymore and there is little useful to what he is doing. I still gave him a D+ just for knowing how to stop a break.
daniel_craig_shirtless_2.jpg

Daniel Craig -- an appropriate choice once they decided to turn Bond from resourceful quipster into superhero. Can't act, but nice pecs.

Cisco ( C- ) -- solid first half stint...on offense. On defense was trying but being blown by, powered through, and generally whipped. Ended up on his butt a number of times (and no, thankfully there was none of the soccer grimacing and fake limping and stuff). No passing, which should come as no surprise in this one. But a bit unusual for us in that he didn't even pass any to the other team. No rebounding as the Suns just wanted it more. But hit a few jumpers so Geoff should be happy, and enough to get a marginal grade here. At least there was something.

Hey, we're inclusive around here.

Williams ( D+ ) -- our attempt to go power on power by putting Sheldon on Shaq did not work. Put down by Shaq early, when Shelden fouled Shaq the same way that the faces of boxers used to foul Mike Tyson's fist. And the Suns power guys then all took turns rumbling down the lane, attacking at will and blowing right through Spencer and Shelden throughout the 2nd quarter. On the other end it was ugly as Sheldon is stubby, and the Suns frontline took turns rejecting him. Continued to show sporadic fight during the whooping though, grabbed some boards, and there was more effort there than with most of our guys.
AnnaFaris.jpg

Anna Faris -- cute and funny is a nice combination.

Greene ( D+ ) -- in with us down something like 48 before Natt officially deemed it garbagetime. Continues to show not a whole lot. Wasn't facing anybody in particular (Alando Tucker? Jared Dudley?) and just not able to get anything consistent going. Also once again just could not hit the three point shot, which is supposed to be one of his calling cards. 0-3 on the night, 27% on the season.
418428559_1fa57dcb4e.jpg

Abigail Clancy -- British bikini model

Douby ( A+ ) -- when its an uber blowout who ya gonna call? That's right -- Doubyman! Ah...the garbagetime King returned with some classic old Douby junkballing to keep this below 50. It was Douby to the left, and Douby to the right, and Douby bombing away like mad...woohoo!! This is what dreams are made of. Of course had trouble bringing the ball up against the ferocios defense of Goran Dragic, but what are you, some sort of perfectionist or something? Stop drinking the hatorade! A+.
bridget_moynahan_9.jpg

Bridget Moynahan -- so you're a very beautiful actress who could have her choice of virtually any man in the world, and you choose the playboy who is going to get you pregnant and then immediately leave you for a supermodel. Sometimes its better to settle for the faithful plumber.

Kenny Thomas ( A++) -- and spectacular as Douby's garbagetime chucking was, it was nothing compared to KT's accomplishment -- being the only Kings player who made the trip to Phoenix to retain some shred of dignity, by simply not ever playing.
patrick_dempsey09.jpg

Patrick Dempsey -- see? I even invented an excuse to get an extra one in for the ladies.

BJax ( A+++ ) -- exceeding even KT's face saving accomplishment by not even making the trip -- an A+++ decision if I ever saw one.
caroline_munro3.jpg

Caroline Munro -- 60's/70s pinup sex symbol. Was she a Bond girl? Don't remember. Seemed to specialize in fun cheesy old sci fi and fantasy flicks where she was always wearing fur bikinis or space thongs, or whatever. terrible terrible actress BTW, but that was hardly the point.

Natt ( A++++ ) -- I am with Petrie on this one -- absolutely awesome job man.
goat_1.jpg

I just added Natt in once I realized that the thread had become unbalanced and we were short of goats.

well Brick - considering the suffering we have been trough tonight - the girls will be way overdressed regardless of what You chose

I wish we could invent "Siberia" here and send the players, coaches and the rest to a nice gulag for a short 20 years vacation

I've been thinking the same... this season cries out for an age-verified area. Starting with the game discussions. Nobody under 18 should be subject to the nightmares, emotional scarring and all-around PTSD invoked by reading about the games.

With a cable company that doesn't offer League Pass, Humboldt County seems to be far enough in the boonies to escape the ugliness of the Kings' season.

If there were an art/architecture tour of Europe somewhere in that poll, though, that's what I'd pick.

I'll figure out something to poll about here in a minute.

Forget the grades. Just give us the pretty girls.

But with 4:55 to play and the defensively disinterested Kings trailing 118-71, Hawes was furious during a timeout. His face a bright-red mixture of anger and embarrassment, he yelled at his teammates, "This has to stop," before the Kings finished with a slight edge in garbage time (11-10).

"It had kind of been brewing all game," Hawes said of his outburst. "It's just something where, if we're going to get beat, then we're going to get beat going 150 percent. There's no shame in coming out if you give your all and your shot's not falling or it's just not going your way. But when you get beat as bad as we did tonight, there's no excuses. I think it was probably long overdue when it came to that."

If he would have shown the same anger / fight at the beginning of the game maybe the score would not have been what it was. Same as Kevin promising things will change after we've been embarrassed. Easy to talk tough and make promises after the game is over and you're sitting with a towel around your head in the locker room.

And it's easy to act like you'd do better from the anonymity of a message board.

This is a team with a myriad of problems whose chemistry is deteriorating like roadkill on a hot day. We've been embarrassed? Good grief. We're nameless identities on a message board. The ones who were or at least should have been embarrassed are the ones who were there on the court last night, with the camera shifting between them and the guys on the Phoenix Sun bench laughing and pointing.

I am very concerned about my team right now, but I am PROUD of Spencer Hawes for doing what needed to be done.

I'm not fooling myself, though. It's not going to right the ship or correct the course. We're in the middle of a massive ****storm and there's nothing to do but ride it out and hope things will be better on the other side.

Well, at least the real "prettiest girl of Firefly" gets a mention in one of these. Also: Nice goats!

As for the game, if we all pretend that it didn't happen, will it not have happened? Like with the tree in the forest and it falling and stuff. Moreover, if that indeed is possible, can the Kings still get the pingpong balls to show for it?

And it's easy to act like you'd do better from the anonymity of a message board.

Save your sarcasm for someone else. I don't "act" in any manner. You're telling me that it took for him until 4 minutes left in the game to get mad? Congrats. Pat him on the back some more. Maybe next time they'll wake up in the beginning of the fourth quarter and only lose by 30? As someone who has followed and played competitive sports from the time I could walk, there was nothing to applaud in that scenario. When Hawes backs up his comments, then you can stand up and applaud. Lead by example, not words. Ask Kevin about that.

Really great comment: "whose chemistry is deteriorating like roadkill on a hot day";)

Actually, the people I felt the most sorry for we're the Kings fans sitting in the Suns arena wearing their Kings jerseys. If I were a fan going to an away game, I'd have to reconsider wearing any Kings gear.

No matter what happens in the next 2 weeks, we need to get a more consistent rotation. The same starting 5 every game with consistant minutes. Let them learn to play together and learn to rely on each other. No more zone, no more giving Salmons the most difficult assignment to guard, everyone covers his own man and learns how to play man defense and their help assignments.

They'll get better by the end of the year or we'll know who needs to be moved and who can stay.

Oh, don't worry. I've got enough sarcasm to go around.

As far as you being someone who has followed and played competitive sports from the time you could walk, big deal. Most of us here fit that category.

For whatever reasons, Hawes finally said out loud what a number of people had thought and I'm going to applaud him for it. If you choose not to, no problem whatsoever.

It's basic psychology really. If you praise someone for doing the right thing, you encourage them to do it again. Much like cutting class, calling out your teammates gets easier after the first time BUT it's fraught with mines and traps. If you do it too often OR if you don't back up your comments with actions, then you look the fool and they ignore you, ridicule you, sabotage you, etc.

Spencer was mad and I'm glad he was mad.

As far as Kevin goes, he's not a natural-born leader. He's been told by people he trusts he should step up more and fill the void and he's willing to try but it's not his stock in trade. He's a sidekick, not a superhero.

In a season like this, you take the pluses - as pitiful as they are - when and where you can find them. Hawes' actions were, IMHO, a plus. If you don't agree, that's fine. It certainly won't be the first time - nor the last - someone doesn't see things the same way I do.
