Don't Make Me Use The Bat

Peja ( D- ) -- avoids his second F in a week on the basis of a few good rebounds. Otherwise it was back to the same ole story with Peja against the Spurs. They get rough, it ruffles his pristine game, and the Spurs win the matchup. Got a couple of bad calls against him where Bowen spent the game mugging him, but its Peja who gets touch offensive fouls called. But that was a minor point. Things got tough, we needed him, he went away. If we meet these guys in the playoffs, which guy is going to show up? Peja from the last game vs. the Spurs? Or this one?
Webber ( INC ) -- I'm going to go with the incomplete here because Webb barely played in this one. Got in quick foul trouble, came back and immediately hurt his ankle (courtesy of Tony F'n Massenberg no less) . Came back and was clearly hobbled. Wasn't seen after half. When he was in probably no better than a C-, and maybe even worse than that although he was hurt -- no rebs at all, and especially after he hurt his ankle, just settling for jumpers. But he barely had time to warm up before things went badly awry for him, so we'll leave it at an incomplete. Without him to lead us though, we looked totally lost.
Miller ( B ) -- Well, one King brought it. Brad fought hard on the boards. Of course he didn't stop anybody and got worked by Tony Massenberg. Nonetheless the effort was there, and if he'd just had ANY help this would not have been such an embarrassing effort.
Mobley ( D- ) -- avoids his own F solely on the basis of a couple of forced drives which at least showed effort. Of course they were also a sign of our teamwide collpase as 1 on 1 forced drives are NOT our game. But with the system in disarray guess the new guy fell back to what he knows.
Bibby ( C ) -- a few little sparks of life here and there distinguished him from most of the team. Made a few steals, hit a few tough shots. Also contributed exactly zero assists -- in fact all 5 starters combines for ONE on the night.
Ostertag ( C+ ) -- our leading assist man! Says it all right there. Modestly effective otherwise. Not a great game, but certainly was not our problem tonight.
Evans ( C- ) -- got exposed a bit tonight. When the system breaks down, so does Mo. System guy, can't create his offense. And tonight with no passing whatsoever Mo just kept on trying to force up bad shots. Not much option given our total collapse, but still ineffective in that role. Had mroe energy than most though.
Songaila ( D+ ) -- very shaky effort. Made some bad turnovers. No impact otherwise.
Martin ( D+ ) -- looked ineffective and overmatched in there this time. No spark tonight.
House ( D ) -- forced shots in extended garbagetime. Hit a couple, missed more.
Barnes ( INC ) -- was ok during garbagetime. Passed the ball, smoothly stroked a long jumper.
Bradely ( INC ) -- grabbed some nice boards in there. Its only garbagetime, but like what little I've seen of this guy so far.

Adelman ( D ) -- Obviously a team grade of a big ole "F", but I'm going to go ahead and give Rick the D because there was nothing he particularly did to directly contribute to it. Nonetheless, for whatever reason tonight we were totally unprepared to play tonight, and whatever was said or not said during halftime made absolutely no difference. We set a Sacramento era record for fewest assists by the team (8). We let career super-scrub Tony Massenberg totally show us up without putting up any fight. We just completely sucked. Just as the coach deserves credit (and more credit than he normally gets) for those nights when we come out smoking + ready to play, a chunk of that blame lands at his feet when we play with no spark and no pride. Best jsut to forget about this one. And pray that the Webb injury is just a nick and he'll be back in a game or two.

Team grade: F (luckily, this isn't a mid-term or final exam)

Webber was on the bench at the end of the game.

I am about 99% sure I saw Webber sitting on the bench at the end of the game. I wouldn't put too much stock in a phone call to the post-game show.

Exactly. He said that Webb seemed to be walking fine. But I don't know.
Maybe it was Gargamel :)

I parrott Piksi's sentiment, you deserve something for giving out grades tonight.

I didn't see anything tonight, with the exception of Brad in the paint, that particularly tickled my fancy so I have nothing to offer here, except go get 'em next time (Thursday). If we had won tonight, we would have expected MASSIVE adjustments from Spurs before Thursday night, so it's natural Kings should be thinking about the same thing. Hope they don't watch a tape of the game, what good could that possibly do? Throw it away and start from scratch.

Ah, so this was all a devious plan to lull them into a false sense of security so we can beat the tar out of them in SA?

Deucedly clever!!!

You say that only because you can't hear the voices of reason and intelligence that ooze from every sports 1140 phone caller...

Duh! Why else would Webb be at the ATM, only to get some money to buy "HAHA, jokes on you" gags!

Those sly devils...I bet it was that jokster Tags idea!

I loved the way Tag dished the ball tonight. Brad had a double-double. A meteor didn't hit ARCO Arena. It wasn't so bad,...................was it?

We all get "complimentary Cs" for even posting after this stinker. Take a "C" like a man and move on.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot. The Kings set an assist-record tonight.

All out horrid ... this is as worst as it can get when one teams plays bad and below its level while another team plays to the best of its ability... i hope we use this as motivation to woop them up on there home court....

The starters all deserve a big F.. Well ok excluding Brad. He deserved a big fat D. Webb played 13 minuts. In that time he had ZERO rebounds and ZERO assists. Was 3-6 though. Peja and Cuttino were invisable... Oh wait, that 1 time when Cuttino was griping top the official you could tell he was on the floor.

The ony starter that had any assists was Brad.. He had 1. The assist leader was Tag!

8 assists and 17 TO's is AWFUL!!!!

Ok.... Now ive said that... Time to move on... or try to anyway.....

The game was so freakin ugly and I couldn't scream at the TV anymore since the Pittsburgh Steelers consumed all my energy, so I took a nap.

Good thing I did because the game was already out of control.

That was plain painful to watch, I think. :( Props to Brad, though, for the heart, coming out with a lot of energy, showing a lot of effort out there.

I hope they'll all come back roaring next game.

It seems like everytime we have a game where everything is working, like the Cleveland game, we come out the next game and lay and egg. Anyway, this was embarrassing and I hope the guys are because as a fan I was. It was obvious from the opening tip they were out for payback and we just rolled over and took it. Even Grant said to look out for this because we beat them last time when they didn't play well. Thankfully, it's early enough in the year we can recover and get better. I don't think the Spurs can get better.

I didn't get to see the game (nothing new!!) but when I tunes in this morning to check the scores I was hoping for someone to say that there was a mistake with the scores posted. I could not believe what I saw!!! I mean, our highest scoring player had 13 pts??

Who was that team and what did they do with the Kings??
