And so the Kings "Whatever" tour continues, but at least you can take a little solace in the Lakers blowing an opportunity here -- this one could come back to haunt them when it comes to seeding at the end of the year.

Ron Artest ( B ) : 27min 17pts (6-14 FG, 0-2 3pt, 5-6 FT) 4rebs 2ast 4stl 1blk 3TO
Hyped up and amazingly showing no ill effects from his "injury". Was so active he was borderline out of control. Wanted this to be about him. Hit a jumper to close the first quarter and give us the lead. Came up with some spectacular plays in the second. Several full court gallops, a bunch of steals (Lakers were very sloppy in the first half). Was causing a lot of problems for Odom once again. Got chippy and out of control in the 3rd, and that was that. Reggie benched him. No more Ron for the entire game. Not in the 4th. Not down the stretch. Not even on the final play of the game when we needed a defensive stop. Very interesting. Reggie may want to invest in one of these: http://www.darksword-armory.com/images/gorget2main.jpg .

Mikki Moore ( A- ) -- 32min 14pts (5-7 FG, 0-0 3pt, 4-4 FT) 9rebs 1ast 1stl 0blk 3TO
While all the early attention was on Ron and Kevin, Mikki kind of quietly tied for our first quarter lead in scoring. As usual, working off of the attention drawn by the other players. But disappeared, both literally onto the bench, and just spiritually for the bulk of the 2nd and 3rd quarters. Missed a tip follow off the offensive rebound that would have put us up 5 going into the 4th. However popped back up to make a major contribution down the strecth...both ways. Finished off a nifty Beno pass, then calmly drained a long jumper of the no no no no Yes! variety. Then got a technical for throwing his elbows up high in response to pesky Vujacic defense, letting the Lakes get with 1 with 2:39 to go. Again got a dunk courtesy of Beno after slipping the screen with no Lakers rotation. And finished things off by providing long armed help defense to cause Kobe to come up short on the final shot to win it. This grade was up, then down, then back up again, and clocks in nicely here after it was nto Ron, not Kevin, not Salmons or Brad or whoever, but Beno Udrih and Mikki Moore who combined to lead us to the upset win down the stretch.

Brad Miller ( D ) -- 22min 2pts (1-2 FG, 0-0 3pt, 0-0 FT) 6reb 2ast 2stl 1blk 2TO
Well, at least Brad is consistent. Unlike the rest of these only play when I feel like it weenies, even with everybody else going well, Brad still gave us nothing. Hit his first and onyl bucket of the game on a midrange jumper in the third. Got into early foul trouble and spent a long time on the bench as Hawes outplayed him. Kind of makes you wonder -- Brad's disappearaance coincided with Ron's "sore foot", and you wonder if the trigger was the same. A mention of playing the kids maybe? Maybe Brad resented having Spencer taking his minutes? In any case if he keeps on giving us nothing games, and Spencer keeps on outplaying him, that's just what's going to happen.

Kevin Martin ( B- ) -- 38min 21pts (7-12 FG, 0-0 3pt, 7-8 FT) 4reb 1ast 0stl 0blk 3TO
Well this time the big first half, disappear for the second half pattern repeated itself, but the details were all different. Had a solid first half mostly with the fouls drawing. Came on down the stretch of the second quarter and finished with a solid 17pt half. Was benefitting immensely from Phil's utterly mystifying decision to start Vladimir Radmanovic against us. Quiet in the third, but got a couple of hoops later in the period to help us cling to a small lead. Then for the second Lakers game in a row came up with the big goose egg for the 4th quarter. But this is where things got different. First and foremost while Kevin had only 4 pts after half, well hey, this time those 4 points after half were only 2 less than Kobe had after the break. And whereas last time it was Kobe stepping up to shut him down on one end and dominate us on the other, this time not only was Kobe not dominant offensively, but the defender was not Kobe, but rather Sasha Vujacic. Which sounds ridiculous, but Kevin was perhaps bothered by Vujacic's quickness and tencacity -- and he is not the first King to have probelms with that scrub -- used to cause Bibby fits as well. While he had nothing himself, Kevin did contribute with a nice feed to Hawes for a dunk down the stretch (followed immediately by one from Beno).

Beno Udrih ( A ) -- 44min 25pts (9-16 FG, 1-3 3pt, 6-6 FT) 2rebs 10ast 1stl 0blk 2TO
Scored in sneaky fahsion in the first half. By the time you first noticed him scoring, it was as he crossed into double figures. Then hit the buzzer beater to end the first half and put us back up 11, and it was a sign fo things to come. Came out in the third and was spectacular in the early going, nearly singlehandedly holding off the Lakers run to get back into it. Got very quiet for a long time therafter, and lost what could have been a "+" in the process. Was barely noticeable through the rest of the third and first half of the 4th. But then stepped back up in abig way, and carried the team down the stretch wihtout even scoring a hoop. Started with a nice feed to Hawes. Followed with not one but two really nifty passes to Mikki, including one one hander over the shoulder bullet that went right through two sets of Lakers hands. And then won the game at the line with 5 seoconds to go (on a foul call I always hate -- the guy lying on the ground foul --. Ironically the reason Vujacic was on the ground was that he tried to flop against Kevin Martin to draw the foul with 5 seconds to go. Talk about role reversal, and no more likely to be called fo Sasha at that stage of the game than anybody else). Nice nice game for Beno Udrih, and his agent must be gleefully watching the $$ continuing to climb for this offseason.

John Salmons ( C+ ) -- 21min 4pts (2-8 FG, 0-2 3pt, 0-0FT) 4reb 0ast 2stl 0blk 0TO
In for the latter half of the first, and while he did a good job onKobe last time, this time Kobe came out clearly looking to make a statement and attacked and scored in spectacular fashion. John was active again hiself in the early going although returns were modest. Returned in the third, but was much less effective and was eventually benched along with the rest of the vets for the bulk of the 4th quarter. Returned after Cisco fouled out in the final 30 seconds, and was the man guarding Kobe on his final shot to try to win it. Kobe got separation from him though, and would have had the open look has not Mikki came flying out to challenge with his seven footer's limbs.

Spenser Hawes ( Á ) -- 24min 14pts (7-11 FG, 0-1 3pt, 0-0 FT) 8rebs 3ast 1stl 4blk 3TO
Good first half stint using his length on the offensive glass and to finsih. Found Cisco with a pair of passes on Cisco cuts for hoops in the early 4th, and stole all of Brad's late minutes. Began to make mistakes though, committing turnovers, fumbling balls, and generally looking like a rook as we headed toward the stretch run. Thought he was going to get himself pulled in favor of a vet for the clutch minutes. Then out of the timeout to reinsert Kevin Spencer suddenly came up with back to back flying dunks on feeds from Kevin and Beno. Again made some mistakes down the stretch, and was eventually out for the last few plays, but still had a major impact for us and was obviously by far and away our best center tonight. The question here was whether to add a "-" or not. I often do to distinguish between the player of the game (Beno) and the guys who just helped (Spenser, Mikki), and in this case there were some sloppy rookie like plays down the stretch. But as one of the rooks best games of his young career, I thought leaving the flat A would be no particular threat to Beno's props.

Francisco Garcia ( B+ ) -- 25min 15pts (6-8 FG, 3-4 3pt, 0-0FT) 0reb 1ast 1stl 1blk 3TO
Took a little while to get going, but this was the Cisco you expected to see a few nights back in the earlier Laker game. Initially was getting little accomplished, and stuggled trying to bring the ball up aganst Lakers pressure, once nabbing an 8 secind violation. But after lulling the Lakers to sleep on him finally stepped up to hit a pair of wide open three pointers from the same spot up above the elbow. Followed with another wide open one from the opposite wing (yes, the Lakers first half D was just that good). And in something that we saw a couple of years back, competed well against Kobe on defense. Only stopped him maybe once or twice, and had a ton of help, but he was up and clearly battling him and Kobe resorted to dumping it off to incompetent teammates on several occasions bacasue of it. Came alive to give us a nice push in the early 4th and again hold off the Lakers. Working the cuts, and was found on a pair of passes by Hawes. Continued to contain Kobe, although we were constantly doubling him wihtout the ball so it wasnt a one man effort. Made a classic wild Cisco play in the final minute, racing down court on the break and flying in toward the hoop out of control to bowl over Derek Fisher, who is an expert at 'drawing charges in that sort of situation of course. Offensive foul, critical turnover, and fouled himself out of the game. When the Lakers came back down the other way and promptly scored it looked like it might be the play that cost us the game. Fortunately Beno saved the day. Note agin the one-dimensionality of Cisco's numbers. Whether it be a coaching decision, or cisco's own, ever since he has come back from injury as designated-three point shooting boy, it has been at the expense of the versatility that was fromerly his strength. Pretty much he comes on down now, and spots up. But he's draining them at a high enough clip that the tradeoff is worth it.

Quincy Douby ( INC ) -- 4min 2pts (1-2 FG, 0-1 3pt, 0-0FT) 0reb 1ast 0stl 0blk 0TO
Chipped in with a jumper in the second, wasnt out there long.

Shelden Williams ( INC ) -- 5min 0pts (0-0 FG, 0-0 3pt, 0-0 FT) 0reb 0ast 1stl 1blk 1TO
Did not get much done statistically, but battled in there in the second quarter against Turiaf primarily, and knocked a number of balls loose inside, distracted some shooters, and generally made a larger contribution than the numbers might indicate.

So, are you saying..........Kings beat Lakers in Staples Center and everyone gets an A? :D

I'm good with that.

only because there is no higher grade

I mean this couple years have been hard on us but there are still nights where it feels good to be a Kings fan

WOW! can you believe THAT??

Lakers tonight looked like the Kings in the Wolves game. And Spencer, Cisco and Beno really stepped up. But once again Brad's emotions got the best of him and apparently so did RonRon's.

Why was Kobe on the bench for most of the 4th??

Great win.

I was all about the passing I saw in the 4th. From Beno to Hawes, Beno to Mikki (he even caught it), and Kevin to Hawes, I was a happy, happy camper with those plays.

SO glad artest wasn't in in the 4th. I enjoyed watching the team's future blossom today.

woohoo!

That was good times...Talkin **** in a bar full of drunk Lakers fans.

Haha...That loss must have been heartbreaking
