Don't Make Me Use The Bat

Just a pre-announcement: There will be none. Once your team starts healthy scratching its stars....

If the franchise isn't going to try, I see no reason to either.

I agree, if the organization is going to sit our franchise center who CAN play tonight, so be it, save your energy Bricklayer.

No worries, Brick. I took the liberty of writing up Cousins's grade.

Cousins (F/A) - one of those games where he couldn't stop anyone on defense, as he seemed invisible. But, then again, I couldn't see anyone on the floor stopping him. Well. Girls:

I predict that the rest of the Kings will look surprisingly competitive (against a Grizzlies team that is letting them play easily).
It'll stay a close game until around 8 minutes left in the 4th, when the Grizzlies put on a push and easily outdistance them and the Kings can't keep up.

Face will be saved, Grizzlies get comfortable win but not an embarrassing blowout as it should be.

A gentlemanly loss for the Kings, designed not to enrage the fanbase.

Another pageant game, as most have been for the past ten years.

I have a question. Since it looks like we will be retaining our pick and unable to trade it, what would happen if, for example, we drafted a player for another team and at a later date (or immediately afterwards not sure) we traded the player to the said team... Does that count as trading your pick? It's not really a pick afterwards is it?

No, that's not trading the pick. We can do it legally for a trade now -- indeed its the only way to trade a first round pick for us under this eternal trade restriction purgatory we are in -- but it would STILL leave us restricted afterwards.

Drafting for another team and trading is the only path.

We are allowed to trade the pick as soon as we make the selection. It is common for two teams to agree to a draft-day deal involving a draft pick, have team A pick the player team B wants, and then execute the trade.

Perhaps we aren't as hindered as I originally thought. There is hope after all! Maybe a team becomes desperate enough for someone in our range... Although I really would like Cauley-Stein. I wonder what our eventual new GM would do if presented with the scenario.

We are allowed to trade our first round pick with all the value of a first round pick, for, realistically, about 3-5 days out of every 365.

Trust me, we are hindered.

I see two ways we can still trade a first round pick right now without waiting until the draft. We can trade our 2019 first round pick or we can trade a conditional pick (1-10) in 2017.

Not that it would make sense to do either. But we do still have options.

Also, it is kindof funny that we traded Cleveland a pick with 6 years of protection on it just one year after The Decision and four years later Lebron is back on the Cavs and they never even got to use that pick. They traded it to Chicago for 3 months of Luol Deng and now Casspi is back in Sacramento so it's almost like we gave Cleveland nothing at all. Also, Chicago traded Deng for Andrew Bynum (waived) the right to swap picks with Cleveland this year (not going to happen) our pick, and two 2nd round picks from Portland. So also nothing at all so far. Hickson gave us 35 games of terrible basketball and then got waived. That's a long legacy of nothing emerging from this particular strand of NBA history. Slow down NBA GMs, you might hurt yourself.

The best option is a to get a top 3 draft pick. Trading future #1s will get you a mediocre vet like a Landry or someone like that. If anything, we should go the opposite direction - trade a mediocre vet for a #1 pick who can become a future star. But that takes some skill, some luck, and some guts, like the Kawhi Leonard acquisition:
