The bind that people who spend money on this team is that when you lay out a lot of cash, you don't want a loss. Losses are not fun.

And for those who watch it on TV, how many have quit watching? If you don't watch every game, it is easy to start rooting for losses but than are you really a fan? I will bet that most of the people rooting for losses picked this team when they moved to Sacto, picked this team when it was hot and now are stuck with them, or follow brick because he is a basketball guru.

Intellectually I understand the upside to losing. I'm not stupid. We ALL understand the value in losing. MY problem is that I am a die hard fan.

After a win, I don't want to hear this intellectually correct crap about wosses and lins. I want to enjoy the moment and not come to this board just to get pissed off because some people who call themselves fans want this team to lose. That's what happens and I do not understand the need of some of you to spoil my fun. When this board becomes a place that kills my enjoyment as a Kings fan, I go away.

Your world does not include season tickets.

No longer. But ironically it WOULD if we had committed to the full rebuild. I cancelled out precisely as a protest of our front office's asinine inaction. If things were being done right, I would support that through the necessary lean times and would have reupped. However I will not support folly, cowardice, delusion, or pandering, and sent the message in the best way I know how: I took my money and left.

I quit 'cause I couldn't afford it. The entertainment value even at the highest levels didn't seem worth it. Very simple. :)

If someone doesn't watch political debates live, but only reads about them after the fact, are they really Americans, or should they be stripped of their citizenship and deported?

Firstly, there is no one right way to be a fan, and there never will be. Secondly, agreeing with someone is not the same as following him.

It's unfortunate that you take a difference of opinion so personally. As I've said numerous times before, I don't think that there is anyone on this side of the fence who is expressing their opinion with the specific purpose of spoiling anyone else's fun.

Just because you're not happy to read something doesn't mean that I shouldn't feel entitled to say it.

please don't deport me!!! :p

seriously, detractors/people who want the team to commit to a rebuild are just as entitled in this PUBLIC FORUM to post their opinions. If it rubs some people the wrong way...then...stop coming to the board? the stupid question of "fandom" is so unbelievably retarded that it incenses me every time someone decides to bring it up. hello, the first rule of this board is DON'T BE A JERK. criticize the post, not the poster, and questioning whether or not someone is a true fan is in direct opposition to that. people on this board spend their time on this board because we are all fans of this team.

as i am typing this, GGG has again put this rant more succinctly. kudos to that!

and specifically, to glenn, what is the "right" qualification to be a fan of a team? because they are in your city? so, it's your birthright or something?

Nor my right to object. I don't feel people are singling me out if that is what you mean by "personally."

I think there ought to be at least a 12 hour moratorium so that those who enjoy winning can enjoy it. Is that too much to ask? Those who want to lose have plenty of opportunities to voice that as this team will lose far more than it will win and there are a lot of off days. Lots of off days.

The point at which nothing original can be said has long passed. Let's have some time to discuss something original like, er, the play in latest game and the good and bad points of the play in the latest game.

Can you tell me something about the horrors of this latest win that I haven't heard over and over? Give it a shot. If you can't, that's why I wonder at the need to post a "dang, we won" note within hours of a win.

It's unfortunate when it is seen that there is a fence between people rooting for the same team. I think what you have missed is that I agree with the points made by people on your side of the fence as you may wish to put it. I ALSO enjoy the feeling when the team wins.

Honestly, I think a new sub-forum for revelry might be a good idea. Whether you're rooting for a win or a lin, there are almost always things to revel in. There are plenty of threads that would naturally fit into such a forum. Any Questions?, DIE LAKERS SCUM, Did you see that block?!?, etc.

I don't think the Kings Rap forum should really change, but any thread or discussion where negative or debbie downer responses aren't appreciated would have a home in the revelry forum. It would be easy for people to avoid if they aren't in the mood to revel, and it would be a nice play to hang out for those that don't want to be brought down from the clouds at the moment.

Am I missing a downside to this idea?

This thread is being re-opened with a warning not to revisit that ugliness of a few minutes ago. If you guys have a need to get that off your chest, you need to take it elsewhere.

I was trying to make peace and you deleted that note, S£im. Can I say again that I don't try to be condescending? I hope I don't sound condescending and will be more careful. Also, there is no definition of "fan" and that is my fault if I insinuated such. By my own implied definition, I was not a fan last year.

I think anyone who has known me for a long time knows that I have a prickly side but I am the first to scream "foul" when comments get personal and I crossed the border with GGG.

Thanks for the timeout, Dad

I've always thought that positive threads should be encouraged, and have often contributed to them in the past. I don't think that there should be anyone here who is discouraged from expressing themselves, even/especially if it is an opinion that differs from mine.

Its the suggestion that people with a particular opinion should be required to hold their tongues for a set amount of time after a win that I find to be outrageous.

Well, we COULD do it evenhandedly. For 12 hours after each game, it could be forbidden to express either disappointment with the outcome, or happiness with the outcome. But maybe that would qualify as overreaction to your post asking whether or not we had wost the game.

i don't think you should have to wait make positive/negative comments whether we win or lose. even if your opinion is that we "wost' the game. i may disagree with what you have to say (in fact, i hate the whole concept of the term "wost") but that doesn't take away your right to feel that way or even to post those feelings in a public forum. it doesn't matter if you post it 5 mins or 2 days after the game, the message is gonna be the same. so why should you have to wait?

Given that a win hurts us, would you have preferred a loss while you were at the game spending all that money?
I wouldn't say I preferred to watch a loss, but it honestly doesn't bother me to see them lose right now. They've played hard in almost every game and that's all I can ask.

When the team was really good, I couldn't afford to go, except for rare splurges for the $10 nosebleed seats...or the stand-up seats (I love those painted boxes on the floor. ;)) I can afford to go a few times a year for more than $10 seats now. I'm happy just to see my team play in person.:)

I'm not advocating purposely losing games. However, I would have no problem watching energetic, young guys losing a lot, if they are trying their hardest and if it was pretty clear we were making moves for the future.

However, I know that this is just the feelings of one little, old fan. Everyone is different.

Responded however with a pair of his newfound thunderhick dunks, one in the first half, one in the second. And the one in the second half even coming in traffic and having Brad hopping around and yelling about what a badass he was.

Oh man, you had me laughing at this one. That should be his new nickname - Thunder Hick. :D Like Hacksaw Jim Duggan he can come out with a shotgun (instead of a 2x4 or whatever it was) and come stomping around the court to entertain the crowd during warmups and shoot hotdogs into the crowd. ;)

Not with the shotgun, I hope.

So what, just shut down the board for 12 hours after each game?

Seems a bit extremist, don't you think?

;)

If people don't want to read celebrations OR criticisms they can simply skip those posts they might over-react to.

I have been very critical of people in the past who I felt rained on my parade of celebration. I'm trying very hard to change that... my excitement and celebration of last night's game was not deterred in any way, shape or form by the comments of a "woss" situation, etc. because I chose not to let them.

And I'm sure some of my pollyanna celebratory comments were of little impact to those who didn't view last night's game with the same enthusiasm I felt.

We're all here - with the exception of the occasional "mole" or "troll" - for the same reason. We love the Sacramento Kings ... or at least like them enough to want to talk about them, the future, etc. Unless one of us is actually Joe Maloof, Gavin Maloof, Colleen Maloof, Geoff Petrie, etc., nothing that is posted here is actually going to have a direct impact on the future of the team. We're ALL along for the ride, whether we want to admit it or not.

My advice? Choose those people whose posts you want to read and ignore those people whose posts irritate the crap out of you. It makes life a lot easier.

Holy cow, Brick.

I can see some displeasure with Fisher King or Munchausen, but Brazil & Time Bandits?

If you haven't seen Brazil twice I believe you might be swayed with a second look. It's widely regarded as the best film of the 1980s (or Ragin Bull depending on the survey).

....and that's all cool and the approach that I try and take as well. The only time I feel urge to respond and defend my similar perspective is when terms like "blind homer," "pollyanna," "eternal optimists" and the like come-out which not so subtly suggest that I am not using my brain, or worse yet that I do not have one to begin.

I will put the "fanhood" statements to rest, but the other side needs to put down the "your not as smart as us" statements.

I totally agree kupman. About 6 months ago, someone made a comment something like "if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen." Oh my god--people would actually think that a basketball site is "heat" on any level? One needs to keep things in perspective. I have two people that I rarely read. They are just not respectful with their words and the few times that I have written I have been told in a not so subtle way that I just didn't get his point in a way that indicated that I wasn't smart enough. I wasn't offended--just laughed out loud. Have a good one! Go Kings! Annie.
