Bricklayer

Don't Make Me Use The Bat
Sorry for not starting this up last night -- I had to go in for emergency surgery after trying to claw my eyes out after watching what the Clippers consider NBA basketball.

Well, you knew, or given this season maybe just suspected, that we were not going to finish out on an 0-24 streak. And if you are going to have to notch an obligatory victory or two, there is no team it is more likely to be over than the Clippers. Where would we be without them? I'll tell you where -- 10-50, and with an unchallenged stranglehold on the worst record in the league. Damn their heartless, gutless, souls.

And so theme...thought about this, and decided I was not being fair. This was, after all, kind of a blowout in a most bizarre way this season, so let's celebrate! I see no reason why we should be hapier to lose than to win...well other than losng being better for the long term health of the franchise of course. There have been occasional requests on here for themes, and last week there was one for motorcycles. I am not at all a motorcycle guy, so I demurred as it fell outside my area of expertise. But I decided that was not fair -- who am I to deny what the public wants? I am a mere servant to their whims and should never stand in the way of progress. So accordingly I humbly and selflessly submit tonight/today's theme: Hot Choppers

Just remember, you have VF21 to thank for this, so remember to show your gratitude. :D

Cisco ( B ) -- aggressive early, and Kevin set him up repeatedly in the early going. Was on his way to an efficent outing until he began to get sloppy and stupid late. Never really challenged by a Clippers squad that was just pure misery, and were starting 3 small guards at the 1/2/3 positions this time out. After Kevin's early passing surge, it was Cisco who was responsible for many fo the Kings easier baskets the rest of the way.

I'm pretty sure that's an innovative wooden motorcycle in that picture. The cameraman oddly aimed high in the shot though. But all the guys in back checking out the, erm, bike, look impressed, so I am sure it was nifty.

Thompson ( B- ) -- quiet, but hey, aside from a brief spurt in the second quarter, at least he was not in major foul trouble. Was set up by Kevin several times for easy finishes that comprised the bulk of his points. Think he may had all of his rebounds, and almost all of his points before the intermission. Started off active going over guys to tip away boards but largely disappeared after the break, not that he was needed. Did nothing in particular on defense other than impede, but impeding was all that was required against Randolph tonight as he, like the rest of his team, was just awful and could not finish anything inside.

When I was very young my parents bought myself and my younger brother two little plastic trikes that we would race around the patio out back of the house (there was a big tree there with a path circling it on one side, so it made for a perfect racetrack circuit. Mine was the Blue Max. It was, you guessed it, blue. I have forgotten what my brother's was called (might have been the Green Machine) -- it died a sad and tragic death when plastic fatigue and an unfortnate accident crashing into the back porch combined to crumple it -- but it was mottled green kind of like this bike, except much cooler looking of course.

Hawes ( B- ) -- odd game, but then again, when you play the Clippers none of the normal rules apply. Seemed to be getting outactived by Camby on the glass in the early going, and yet you looked up, and he was racking up boards at a season (and career) best pace. Was kind of important, because even against the fugly putrescence that is the clippers, Spence was the only thing keeping us from getting badly pummeled on the glass again (we only lost the battle by 1 tonight), which is about the only conceivable way that bag of manure L.A. calls a team could have stolen this oen. And yet it was all he did. Literally. He may have gotten over to help a few times on defense, but it was hard to tell as the clippers were missing everything all the time, wiht him there or not. His offense was ugly, wiht one of those outings where he jsut randomly fluttered up this and fluttered up that, got a travel, drifted outside to brick a three, missed a chippee and ust generally was compeltely punchless on that end. When he tried to pass, it was a force and a turnover. But he controlled the defensive glass, or at least offset Camby (13) and Randolph (12) and that was important on this night.

Hey look! Another green one.

Martin ( A- ) -- ok, first of all let it be emphasized one more time -- the Clippers in this one were as bad as you are going to see any team play this year. As bad as us against the Celtics. Just god freakin' awful, and they quit before they even left the lockerroom for tipoff. They offered no defensive resistance whatsoever, and the offense...well let's not get into that atrocity. The significance would be that what Kevin did in this one, particulalry early, might not be duplicable against a good team. But that he did it at all was still every encouraging. He was never really devastating with his own offense, but this is the classic game to demonstrate that shooting 7-17 for 20 points while making your teammates better onthe way to victory, can be infiintely better than playing for yourself and your own numbers, scoring 27 or 30 or whatever, having Jerry gush about your "efficiency" while the +/- stats say the team was better with you off the floor, and seeing your team lose by 20 every night. Kevin came out in this one lookign to set people up, not set himself uip. And the Clippers were completely passive of course, so kevin could just wander wherever he wanted to wander and make nice easy little passes to guys fro open shots. there was nothing brilliant about what Kevin was doing -- he wasn't splitting double teams, threading needles, or anything else, but in the face of the Clippers apathy he had exactly the right approach and just helped the whole team get off to a comfortable start. It wasn't perfect, there were some turnovers, he missed more than he made from the field, but it was winning basketball in the way that putting up tons of points with no concern for your teammates is not. He tailed off and was hardly needed after half, but if there was any tonesetter out there for us in this victory, other than the Clippers themselves being a joke, it was Kevin. More of this would make him, and us, better.

An orange one! Oh..and biker supermodel Livia Crisan, who was kind of my inspiration for this theme (being aware of her because I had a client who had some dealings wiht her a few years back). Actually...wait...no, VF21 was my inspiration for this theme. Just remember that. This is all VF21's fault...

BJax ( A- ) -- easily outplayed Baron tonight as Baron was again, for the second time in Arco this season, just godawful. I mean...you would have had to see it. Better yet, don't. In any case, he lazily shuffled around out there earning hundreds of thousands of dollars (literally-- per game!) playing a game most people play for fun at the park as if he was on a chain gang. And meanwhile Bobby of course brought his normal enthusiasm (which could hurt us if he brings too much more in upcoming games actually). There were some brief moments early on when the result of the matchup was in some doubt -- thery were dueling a bit, with Bobby hitting two threes, while Baron responded with a three and a post move. But Bobby never quit being efficient out there, having maybe his bets shooting night of the season, while Baron just disintegrated. Other than a couple of times where he got his pocket picked by a clearly frustrated Baron, on one of which he turned right around and returned the favor, almost everything he gave us out there this time was postive. Avoids the straight A here because Baron clearly was on drugs and I could have scored at least a dozen on him myself tonight. Well...maybe 10.

See? VF21 wanted a Harley theme, and so I have delivered with this picture. Am I not merciful?

Nocioni ( B+ ) -- in and imediately had a pair of aggresive takes as he quickly realized there was no clipper with the will to guard him. Added a three and another aggressive drive in our 2nd quarter run as the Clippers quit entirely. Did have a couple of dumb fouls in the period, a few turnovers due to overaggression, not much other than scoring, but on the game along with McCants was very efficient and effective off the bench.

Don't worry ladies -- I would never entirely abandon you. Antonio Sabato Jr., who I think is a model/soap star mostly. I remember this pic for some reason, but cannot picture where I've seen it before.

McCants ( B+ ) -- Noc's partner in crime in effective play off the bench tonight. Very solid + tough out there. Scored from inside and out (although the threes were not falling). Competed on defense. Even grabbed a lot of boards for us (not a normal part of his game). For one night felt like the same sort of physical push on both sides we used to get out of Jim Jackson back in the day.
jesse_james.jpg

Oh, ok, that last selection of a pretty boy was just impossibly wimpy given the topic, so I repent and offer up the obvious: Mr. Sandra Bullock himself, Jesse James (as I recall actually related to the Old West outlaw). Jesse of course is famous for his custom choppers -- my brother used to watch a reality show in which he starred in which he assembled all star teams of grease monkeys to build various bikes and other things (until, my brother said, the manufactured reality TV drama/on air squabbling began to overwhelm the actual construction).

Solomon ( D ) -- last of the benchers to get anything approaching regular rotation minutes, and once again did not produce anything at all.
122_0801_01_z+jesse_james_legend_of_motorcycle+aero_bike.jpg

And, well, felt like I had to make up for the last two, because shallow creatures that women are you notice how little you could see of the actual bike's in those shots? So here is one of Jesse's bikes by itself.

Diogu ( INC ) -- in for a few minutes at the end of the first half, did nothing. Added some more nothing in garbagetime. With only 22 games left, not looking good for opportunities to impress.
suzuki-ffff-foursome-thong-babes.jpg

I had no idea Suzuki's were so popular! (yeah, I know those are rice rockets (no offense intended), not choppers, but I felt it my duty to share).

Greene ( INC ) -- just the garbagetime I think. Did block a shot.
custom_motorcycle_sexy_babe.jpg

Simmons ( INC ) -- garbagetime, no production.

Well, nifty, if ridiculous, bike at least.

Oooohhh snap son. Brick just got burned.

Seriously, that was pretty funny.
And I can't see half of these chicks, need to get some kind of update or something. Some of the girls look like this: [x], But I "get" to see both dudes. Bunch Of Crap.

Slim is probably my favorite poster here. Still I get to see only an [x] of his (probably incredibly hilarious) image.

To hell I say, to hell darn browser.
Okay last post about my problems.

...sigh...

I should have known. And to make it worse, now I have to thank Brick because he did at least somewhat honor my suggestion? I was actually thinking more along the lines of motorcycles such as the bike rode by Marlon Brando in "The Wild Bunch," Lorenzo Lamas' Heritage Softail, Peter Fonda's Capt. America, the bike Steve McQueen soared over fences with in The Great Escape, etc. I know - it's my fault for not being more specific. Poor Brickie just had to work with what he knew...

;)

and ya know brick, you could have at least included this bike..with or without the rider..I chose without.
