Tell everyone how you think the Kings did on draft day

I gave them a D, whoever they would of gotten I would of given no higher than a C anyway because we made no trades while others did make trades.

I gave them an average, considering I think Petrie did as good as could be expected with what was available. And Petrie DID try to make trades. I was told that he just didn't get much cooperation. It does take at least two willing people to make a trade.

I despise public polls as a source of endless bickering and shan't be voting.

That said Hawes himself might be a C. The complete failure on every other front makes it a D. Did not move up, or down, or acquire any other picks, or get involved in any other trades. Took our medicine. Went home. And boy do we have a lot of work to do and the course of all the oung talent that we need now past.

I agree - average. I'm quite sure that some more interesting things (meaning trades before training camp) are just around the corner.

I am writing-in my vote as "ask me again in 6-7 years."

In the meantime, I will be cheering that this draft turns into an "A." :)

I don't hate the pick as much as the management of the draft overall. I wish Geoff had traded up one slot for Noah, or down for two later picks.

Terrible would have been Thornton, or trading up and then taking Hawes.

Um, Brick? You voted. :p

And Petrie DIDN'T just take his medicine and go home. He tried very hard, I've been told, to move up in the draft and he tried equally hard to get something else going. It's not fair IMHO to continue to put forth the opinion that Petrie just sat there when he did try...

While I do believe that Petrie tried to do something and he did try to move up in the draft so he could get someone better than Hawes, I still think that late first round picks could be had and were pretty much had for some cash considerations.

Why is it that we never go out and buy a pick. Suns sold their pick and Philly's pick 30 was also virtually given away. This is my ONLY gripe with Petrie today! Not that he picked Hawes, not that he didn't move up into the 10 but to buy those picks in late first round that were available and sold to other teams.

Why is it that Portland can spend $3 million on first round draft picks in consecutive years and we don't?

Why? The poll is simply summarizing what people have been saying in the threads.

What I hate is the blind negativity that seems to be pervading this board lately.

In terms of drafting Hawes at 10 when there was no other tall available is a good pick. So I think its a B.

The fact that we didn't buy one of the late first round picks that were for sale, is what brings this grade down to C

Yeah it just seems to me like we could have made at least one more deal to get an additional pick. Portland BOUGHT one for crying out loud! They were there for the taking. None of us were in the war room, but I still think something else could have been done to get another young buck on our roster.

I sure hope we make some trades before camp opens so my offseason grade improves from a "D" to an "A."

Hiring Theus: "A"
Drafting Hawes dropped the grade to a "C"
Not making any additional moves on draft day when trades were being made left and right drops it to a "D."

I think Hawes is B worthy for the 10th pick but they didn't make a move for a guy like Fesenko and that was disappointing, so I give a C.

Tonight I did something I rarely do, and looked over at another site for Kings fans to see what the reaction was like there. It made the response here look a bit mild. They had a post up, "We'll be here when you're ready to come back," for the fans who had announced that were giving up on the team. A poll attached to the article (with few votes as yet) has 62% voting in the range of "I'm pissed" to "I'm gone," and 37% thinking that the pick (and the team) would be OK. I guess we can each apply our own personal curves to that score.

Gimme a link please:D

I voted a "C"

I like the pick of Hawes, I think he will take 2 years or so to develop but when he does develop he will be someone we can build around. I didn't like the fact that we weren't aggressive at all and didn't make any deals. I was especially angered by the Kings not buying Phoenix's pick.

Well so far the poll in this thread has greater than 50% voting in the "D" and "F" catagory, so that isn't too far off. Clearly many of the fans who care enough about the team to post on a message board or vote in a poll, no matter what the reasons, are unhappy with the selection.

Meanwhile, the hearty and steadfast and foolish and blindly loyal will remain, grasping on to any strand of hope. "Douby hit four straight threes last night!" "K-Mart just keeps getting better and better." "Theus sure has these guys playing hard." Like Jim Mora, we will have no interest in talking about the playoffs. We'll be looking for those strands of hope and begin scouring the college ranks in preparation for next year's draft.

And come back when you're ready. For some that may be a long, long time. For others, it may be once Petrie pulls the trigger on some trades. You know we can make trades after draft night, right? One thing. This pick was not made for this year. Kid's 19, for crying out loud. He could be a load in a couple of years, so you may want to wait a year or two before passing final judgement. Yeah, he could be a bust, too. Whatever, whenever. We'll be here when you're ready to come back, and we'll welcome you with open arms.

Wow, this is awesome. That's exactly how I feel right now. If you think that the Kings are hopeless, feel welcome to leave and support Warriors or whatever. I'm, to quote Ash, through running and thus remain and give them a C (which I'd reconsider and change to B if I could but what the hell).

I voted C for average since I think those with realistic expectations got a predictable result. Did we completely blow it? I doubt it. But since we didn't get anything else accomplished I don't think I can rate us any better than average.

I think I'd be happier if the city I live in wasn't going absolutely bonkers over their team... heck I've even decided to head downtown for the Greg Oden welcome party today.

I would have voted exactly like this. Love the reasoning.

Hawes himself is a C. The fact that he doesn't really fill a need for the Kings moves it to a D. The fact that the Kings couldn't do anything else tradewise (even for a second rounder) makes it an F.
