I gave them an average, considering I think Petrie did as good as could be expected with what was available. And Petrie DID try to make trades. I was told that he just didn't get much cooperation. It does take at least two willing people to make a trade.
I despise public polls as a source of endless bickering and shan't be voting.
That said Hawes himself might be a C. The complete failure on every other front makes it a D. Did not move up, or down, or acquire any other picks, or get involved in any other trades. Took our medicine. Went home. And boy do we have a lot of work to do and the course of all the oung talent that we need now past.
While I do believe that Petrie tried to do something and he did try to move up in the draft so he could get someone better than Hawes, I still think that late first round picks could be had and were pretty much had for some cash considerations.Um, Brick? You voted.
And Petrie DIDN'T just take his medicine and go home. He tried very hard, I've been told, to move up in the draft and he tried equally hard to get something else going. It's not fair IMHO to continue to put forth the opinion that Petrie just sat there when he did try...
Tonight I did something I rarely do, and looked over at another site for Kings fans to see what the reaction was like there. It made the response here look a bit mild. They had a post up, "We'll be here when you're ready to come back," for the fans who had announced that were giving up on the team. A poll attached to the article (with few votes as yet) has 62% voting in the range of "I'm pissed" to "I'm gone," and 37% thinking that the pick (and the team) would be OK. I guess we can each apply our own personal curves to that score.

SacTownRoyalty said:Meanwhile, the hearty and steadfast and foolish and blindly loyal will remain, grasping on to any strand of hope. "Douby hit four straight threes last night!" "K-Mart just keeps getting better and better." "Theus sure has these guys playing hard." Like Jim Mora, we will have no interest in talking about the playoffs. We'll be looking for those strands of hope and begin scouring the college ranks in preparation for next year's draft.
And come back when you're ready. For some that may be a long, long time. For others, it may be once Petrie pulls the trigger on some trades. You know we can make trades after draft night, right? One thing. This pick was not made for this year. Kid's 19, for crying out loud. He could be a load in a couple of years, so you may want to wait a year or two before passing final judgement. Yeah, he could be a bust, too. Whatever, whenever. We'll be here when you're ready to come back, and we'll welcome you with open arms.
I would have voted exactly like this. Love the reasoning.I despise public polls as a source of endless bickering and shan't be voting.
