GPS Navigation System

I'm looking for a GPS Navigation System that's small that I can put in my glove box. Some of the requirements is I would like to know traffic alerts but not necessary look up food or gas and if I happen to be stuck in the middle of nowhere, I want them to be able to track me. Any suggestions. By the way, I'm not looking for something that cost more than $300.

I haven't heard of any systems that give traffic alerts under $300.00. I have a Garmin Nuvi and it's the best electronic i've bought in the past three years. I love it.

I also have the Garmin Nuvi called Betty(I know i'm wierd, i named my GPS). Although it doesn't give you traffic conditions it can give you alternate routes in case you know their our traffic problems. I also love that if you go the wrong way it will help you get back on track. One more cool thing about it is it has multiple accents from all over the world lol- you can have a male or female Us accent, british accent, or australian accent!:p

I had a Garmin back in the days when disk based (not flash card) GPS systems were pricey, then it got stolen and I replaced it with Magellan then Tom Tom then went back to Garmin. I tired Magellan and Tom Tom because they had them cheap at Costco and I knew I could take them back. Good job since I hated them. Had to go back to Garmin (360) for a very simple reason - I don't need to be distracted by GPS and Garmin seems to have the cleanest interface and most straightforward map display. If you are driving on a long ride, you want to listen to music and radio not directions. Garmin has a display that I just need to glance at in order to get all the info (next turn, miles/feet to go) and map that shows road ahead in perspective.

Maybe it's just me, but I found all other interfaces and map displays cluttered and annoying.

Thank you. This was very helpful.

I was actually going to get this, however, when I went to the garmin website, this model has been discontinued.

I've been reading alot of good reviews for the Garmin 260 and I'm leaning on buying this one.
