Gerald Wallace will become a free agent

I did before, I still think it could be an idea now. Wallace is looking got get paid, so we could actually have a chance. Thing is, you have to wonder with a guy who plays the way he does how many more strong years he has left. You drop a 4yr deal on him, and those last couple of years might get dicey. And then there's the shooting. But he's a dynamic presence, if Smart wants to run there is nobody better, he's a vet who can lead hustlewise by example. He plays major defense. And we still have that SF hole (as well as him being able to smallball PF it when Smart gets the Nellie itch). If you signed Wallace and brought back TWill you would have the most athletic and dynamic SF duo in the league.

BUT...he'll cost. His age does have to be a concern. Whether we'd need him depends on who we draft. You never know if he has any lingering ill feelings toward Petrie or the organization after the first time. Shooting is not his strength, and Petrie in addition to saying we needed more interior length on defense (which Wallace actually can aid with too), also said he wanted more shooting.

Come our of the draft with Drummond, and out of FA with TWill and JT back, and Wallace added, and I'd feel a lot better about our team's athleticism, defense and length.

Gerald is not going to come cheap. Will the Maloofs be willing to spend? I think most of us know the answer to this question.

If marketed right the maloofs could make money off signing crash especially if he brings us together defensively

Depends on the draft. If Drummond/Henson were to impress and we picked one, then I'd immediately turn my attention to AK and GW, and do whatever I can to bring one in. I've wanted GW here for awhile, although AK would be my first choice but would be more than happy with either. Given they're more SF's rumored/are to be available than defensive PFs/C's, it probably makes more sense to draft a PF and either trade for or sign a SF. If we draft a SF, I don't have nay confidence Petrie can then go out and acquire a big minute defensive PF/C, but whatever, wait and see I guess.

But given

AK
GW
Iggy(heavily rumored to be on trade block)
Batum(RFA which Por will probably match on just about any offer)
Gay(rumored to be on block but owner said no, although he said the same about Mayo and then tried to trade him)
Pierce(don't want, but adds another SF for contenders to persue)
Granger(maybe on the block, mild rumors to it and it's well known they want a SG, which would mean George would move to SF, which would mean Granger is trade bait)
Odom(don't want, but available to contenders)
Marion(most likely on trade block as Dal wants to clear as much cap space as possible)

there are a number of SF's on the market this summer, and by just the sheer number of them they all won't get the money or go to the team they want, and if we were to present a great offer, we might be able to get one. But draft a SF and getting that PF/C to pair next to Cuz becomes pretty tough, although I would do the proposed trade in Brick's thread and swap in essence MT for MKG, as MKG is too good to pass up.
