Gerald Henderson from Duke

I haven't seen anything closer to a pure NBA slasher than Kobe. Gerald Henderson looks like Kobe. I would have to say that this guy is going to be drafted early in the lottery, like 8 or 9. I would take him with the 4. Where would you all take this dude from Duke?

Whoa there. Kobe is 6'6". Gerald Henderson 6'4". He's really athletic, but you have to be extremely, extremely special to make it as a 6'4" shooting guard in the NBA. Henderson is pretty good and is coming around this season, but is he that special, particularly since he's an inconsistent outside shooter? Is he better than Rashad McCants?

In this draft he's probably a lotto pick, but I can't get that excited.

He dunks the ball(well). He shoots the ball from a high release point(well enough), he slashes with the best of them, and he rebounds from the 2. Looks like he will make at least 9 million a year in the NBA. Based on that assumption(9mil) we could draft him very high and he would still be a bargain. thats what this guy is, one sweet bargain for who ever swoops on him.

At 6'4", you better bring lots of intangibles along with your athleticism. Not sure if Henderson has those intangibles to separate himself.

Passing, ball-handling, overall court awareness.

im not sure about those either, but you have to draft based on finishing ability untill he actually gets into an NBA game, then we will learn about the rest of his stuff.

He's an outstanding athlete. He just looks like he should be really good. Watching him his first two years at Duke it was tough to figure out why he wasn't doing more. He's definitely putting it together a little bit this year although its not like he's blowing the doors off the college ranks.

He's an interesting guy because he's got a high floor and possibly a pretty high ceiling. He'll very likely be somewhere between a rotational player to solid NBA starter...but there's the chance he's a late bloomer that keeps developing his gifts and turns into a star.

He's not Kobe though...and he's not worth a top 5 pick.

I'm a huge Duke fan, but no. Just...no. G will be drafted in the lottery whenever he comes out, but he's not a Top 5 pick this year. He's also not as potent a slasher as Kobe. He does, however, "get up" better than Kobe (no small feat).

I haven't followed him all that much this year, but I'm not too impressed --he was considered to be "all that" coming out of high school, but he's now a junior and he's just starting to come into his own. Basically an NBA athlete with defensive chops who can slash and shoot mid range J's--but he'll undoubtedly be a role player in the NBA due to his lack of ballhandling ability and unpolished all-around/offensive game. I think he can earn minutes, but it will really have to be because of his defense--he seems like he can be a respectable offensive player in the league, but for a guy like him the defense really has to come first.

There are already cons to go with some of his strengths--he's an NBA athlete, but that's not enough to distinguish him from the athletic wings that the NBA already possesses--his lack of height will limit him here. He can slash, but he can't handle or change direction well--so he's really limited here in halfcourt sets. Most of all, he's not a good passer for even the shooting guard spot, so he's a 6'4" SF. The lack of height may affect him defensively, but he's very fundamentally sound, disciplined, athletic and amasses many steals and blocks. So really, I expect the offense to be rather ordinary, but the defense, if he puts his work into it, can be stellar. Think Tony Allen or Ruben Patterson, although he probably uses his smarts well and is less physical.

He's productive offensively for the Blue Devils (17 ppg in 28 mpg) and has played lockdown defense this year, but I have real questions about how he's going to get his points in the league. Maybe a shorter Dahntay Jones, another former Duke player. Notice my comparisons are mostly to role players...because that's who he probably is. He's most likely 1st round pick due to his current production and the past hype he's received, but when we get to long term projections I'm not jumping up and down--the lack of height, the lack of great range of the jumpshot, the lack of handles, the lack of passing ability are more than enough to hold him down to some degree. Jackie Manuel (6'5" SF from UNC) had a similar athletic and physical profile, and the defensive pedigree, but he was far less skilled offensively and went undrafted. I'm not sure how Henderson can distinguish himself offensively here, and really I'm sort of surprised how he may even be a mid-1st rounder.

As for 6-4 SG's, don't forget Dwayne Wade is 6-4!!!! and he is pretty good, eh?

Yeah, there are tons of good 6'4" SGs in the NBA. There's Dwyane Wade, and.... Dwyane Wade and..... uh..... Randy Foye....... That Dwyane Wade guy is pretty good.

He reminds me of a j-richardson in college...but the 6'4'' thing doesnt help, as j-rich is 6'6''. I can see him being a better player than mccants just because he doesnt come with the same kind of attitude, but as it was said, it is very tough to make it as a 6'4'' SG in this league. He has the athleticism to do it though.

offer Mccants a 1 year tender then draft Henderson and let them duke it out for the PT, and let the creme rise to the top. I am not in favor of wasting the pick on these so called "locks" like Harden and Thabeet. Nothing is a lock,
(IE. ODEN). I like Henderson and it is clear that he will be entertaining us in the near future, as a king or just in the NBA. I have never liked harden because he looks like a 6-5 Lebron without the intangibles. I would take him at 7 or later. same thing with hendo.

You're right. LeBron = bust.

oh did u meet him in person?

As a matter of fact, yes. Very humble and articulate young man but shorter than 6'4 (at least two inches shorter than his friend, Jon Scheyer, who is 6'5). His ridiculous hops help him play bigger than he is. Why is it such a surprise that he isn't the height he's listed? We are talking about college hoops, where height inflation runs rampant. Who here still believes that DJ Augustin is 6'0? I've never met Blake Griffin, but there's a good chance that he isn't 6'10.
