George Karl Officially Signed (Sacramento Bee Tweets)

Did you actually watch Sessions before this year at all?
The Ramon Sessions from last March and April was perfectly capable of playing backup PG. I don't know what happened.

Several people, since silent, actually thought Ramon would eventually be the starter here. He's at times in his career been a guy who puts up numbers.

I suspect Karl will find a way to make Ramon productive.

Interesting thing about this, Carl Landry retweeted this video yesterday. I might be wrong but I read into it that Landry himself is not a fan of the analytics. Adds further fuel to belief that the players were on the same page as Mike Malone but those beliefs were directly against what the front office believes in.

I like Landry better now.

**** Ramon. Work on Ben, Ray and Nik.

Yes, and I didn't understand that then either. He's a career back up, never been a good shooter and is a terrible defender. He's a guy who's a decent ball handler and can get to the rim. That is not a fringe starter or a 6th man. It is a 9-11th man, which he has always been.

I'm sure PDA expects Karl to "stay in his lane" to a certain extent and part of what's taking this so long to iron out probably is defining the lines between what Karl has say in and what PDA has say in.

Of course, PDA is incredibly naive and whatever lines he thinks he will or will not draw don't amount to much as Karl has the final trump card, playing time. If PDA comes to Karl and says I want this player or that player and it doesn't fit what Karl wants, PDA could tell him "I'm the GM and it's my decision, I make the moves", to which Karl only has to respond "sure, go right ahead, and your acquisition can enjoy keeping the end of the bench warm". Add to that that Karl is much tougher to fire with a supposed 4 yr/16-20M deal and the resume/clout he carries with him, and any threat from PDA would be easily brushed off.

This will be far more on PDA to get along and make it work with Karl than vice versa, Karl having to show he can get along and make it work with PDA. Karl is here to help fix the mess PDA created, pressure isn't on him. And if it doesn't work between them it's most likely PDA who hits the door, not Karl.

BTW, my guess is Karl has considered Sac a serious option for the last couple months and has been doing his homework, watching and scouting us. I'd be shocked if he didn't already have clear thoughts on players he's like to move and what types to replace them with, who and what he wants surrounding Cuz.

I don't think evil of PDA and suspect he will get along with Karl. PDA's problem is that he is in over his head. Not sure how that will work with Karl but it could be very good. As a guess of sorts, I think PDA needs help dealing with his owner and lap dog.

Westphal took over after George Karl lost a power struggle with SuperSonics GM Wally Walker in 1998. Karl had taken in Vin Baker in a trade that sent Shawn Kemp away from Seattle the previous September, and while Baker enjoyed an All-Star campaign with his new team, his confidence was shot toward the end of Seattle’s playoff run as Karl decided to let Baker guard then-Lakers center Shaquille O’Neal in a second round loss to Los Angeles.

Pete,

Chuck asked that I pass along that this applies to you to:

Barkley can rip Morey all he wants. I for sure thought the Rockets were going to suffer when they let Parsons go and traded Lin for nothing. I absolutely thought they might be the team to miss the playoffs because of the GM not handling the Parsons scenario correctly...

More than 6 months later, Rockets are still one of the top teams in the West and have found cheap replacements who've contributed to the team... ex: Trevor Ariza for cheap, signed Josh Smith to literally nothing.. traded cheap pieces for Brewer..and basically took Jason Terry from our hands for free and they got a 2nd rounder from it. He also drafted Capela who is raw and can learn a lot from Howard..not to mention he also drafted Nik Johnson who would probably contribute some on other teams.

Those are only things that all happened THIS year. Don't even mention how he traded for James Harden and gave him a max contract and everyone rose their eyebrows.. and he did draft Parsons in the 2nd round too.. also drafted/traded for role players who've helped contribute a ton this year.. Motiejunas and Papa...

Criticize Daryl Morey all you want, but the truth is, he's done an absolute incredible job as GM. Nothing wrong with analytics.. if it helps you win, then it helps you win. If that's how Morey determined if he wanted to go after Harden, Dwight, or Parsons, why is Chuck discrediting him for that lol?

I do agree with the fact that the Rockets probably aren't finals quality, but Chuck has more beef with Morey than he does Cuz. And in response to Chuck, the Miami had 3 superstars who decided to come together and go to south beach. Well maybe 2, since Wade was already there.. and the Spurs have the beast coach of all time.. Bulls had the best player in the history of the NBA... analytics would probably go off the chart for Jordan ;)

Bingo. FO doesn't suck because of analytics. It sucks because it sucks. No one has been trying to defend their moves. Not old school basketball heads, not analytics people. They are championing for no method here. I guess that's NBA 3.0

inb4 people start arguing about the actual definition of NBA 3.0, excuuuuse you

I haven't heard anyone ask who is likely to be Karl's first and second assistant for the remainder of this year? Does he bring someone in who has worked with him previously and can help implement whatever Karl system he has decided on given the talent he has to work with? Or does he work with the current assistants who know the players? Does Corbin have a role with the Kings beyond the Bucks game? If so, what?

I like the direction of the franchise. We are in a much better place than we were 2-3 years ago. I give much of the credit to the FO. At some point though, it does have to translate into wins.

Hopefully Vivek and the FO learned their lesson. Let the coach COACH. May this be the start of long term stability in the HCing department as well as in the FO.

Instead of spending time on the minutiae of the contract, PDA and Karl would be better served on spending time going over personnel. I'm hopeful they are doing just that. This should not be a "wait and see" time for PDA and Karl, prior to the trade deadline. Karl should be discussing with PDA who goes and who stays on this team, who is in the works for a trade, and who might they be able to get in a trade. I don't believe at all that Karl hasn't watched a ton of Kings games over the season and that he is fully aware of players' strengths and weaknesses by now. If PDA wants to redeem himself, start making deals to make this team better.

I don't think there's been much speculation on any of those questions. My guess is that Corbin will be asked to stay home, but as for the rest of the staff I think it's anybody's guess.

There seems to be a few tweets around that suggest that coach Karl will be bringing along a lot of the staff with him. Not sure what it means for the guys already here. I suspect Ty Corbin will not be back and probably a few if not all of his assistants.

My mom's going to be pissed if he cans Corliss -- been one of her favorites since back in the day. :)

I think this is because Karl has assistants play a heavy role in practice. He also has said something about wanting to "groom" a successor I think (not specifically for Kings, he mentioned it in the video I posted in one of the threads).

This makes him very, very valuable to the organization. Loyalty, a sense of stability. I can see the future again, just like I did with the Kings this year up until Dec. 15 -- on D-Day.

Hopefully this convinces DeMarcus to stay here for the rest of his career and become the face of the franchise, both on the court and off the court, creating an identity.
