"George Karl Hire Would Reveal Old Red Flags for Sacramento Kings-Bleacher Report

If you missed today, this article is fairly decent summary.

George Karl may be the right coach for the Sacramento Kings, but everything leading up to his possible hiring feels familiar in all the wrong ways.

Ailene Voisin of The Sacramento Bee reported talks between Karl and the Kings were heating up on Feb. 7, and the ensuing frenzy proved those discussions sped past the smoke phase and quickly reached fire.

The first unsettling aspect of the Karl rumors is that we know about them at all. The Kings have a head coach, Tyrone Corbin, and letting this news leak, however it happened, is a bad look.

Remember, after firing Mike Malone in December, general manager Pete D'Alessandro told reporters: "I give full support to Tyrone. You don't just put someone out there on the floor and say 'you don't have full support of the organization.' That would be totally unfair if I had that in mind."

Less than two months later, it's clear support for Corbin—from D'Alessandro and the organization as a whole—is something less than "full."

Excellent piece. This sums it up for me. "There are many competing agendas at work in Sacramento. Maybe it's not a power struggle, but it's getting close."

Vivek is so fond of saying that he always hires people smarter than him. Well, either that's simply not true, or worse a lie (self-serving quip), or he has over-hired with too many chefs in the kitchen making monumental mess.

I miss Geoff Petrie so much! Forget bringing Malone back as it's not going to ever happen. The miracle would be to get Petrie back to professionally, competently run FO and run idiot Petey out of town never to be heard from again.

I think he has hired too many with Mullin being item (1. I'm not so sure they are smarter than he is and if they are, God help us all.

I've noticed most but not all of the animosity has been towards PDA, Vivek and now Cousins. Mullin has mostly been getting a pass. When I look who has the least to lose and the most to gain from the chaos, it's definitely not the first three.

vivek needs to stop trying to recreate the recipe. he wants to innovate and be cool but this is blowing up in his face. i'm gonna say by the summer cuz will demand a trade. so sad but it's heading that way. maybe this is the wake up call to the 3.0 owner. if not, lets rebuild 1000% position-less basketball for a empty arena.

An underlying fear that has been avoided by all of us but why not if the ship is sinking? Can Karl get the bilge pumps working quickly and come up with a bench to help rather than hinder? Make peace with and get Cuz behind him? Will he have a say in personnel selection? Can he at least pick up where Malone left off in the beginning then transitition to "his team"? It's not working now so one view is it can't get worse.

Of course we don't know for sure, but it doesn't seem like Cousins himself has as much of a problem with Karl as his agents do, that seems far more personal. One of Cousins' agents was demoted when Karl went to Denver and the other was the agent for Karl's son and then they parted ways which is usually never a good sign. The only thing we can hope is that these agents aren't poisoning the well when it comes to Cousins. He needs to give Karl a real chance to teach him if in fact the Kings go that route.

Karl is a good coach who gets the most out of his players whether it's a defensive system or a run and gun offensive one, I don't think the system Karl would develop would hurt Cousins regardless of what it is, in fact it will probably be built around him.
