Gavin Maloof on channel 10

6'11", 260, athletic, strong, long. Still has upside because of being on a deep Denver team with Camby/Martin/Elson. 23 years old. Can handle the ball I think, can play in the post. Seems like his rebounding is undertimined but solid... shotblocking, not sure. Still a bunch to be shown, just needs good minutes.

Well, if it means anything, I was watching the "year of the yao" and nene had a monster block on yao in his yao's first season:D

Well let's be clear here -- none of the undrafted rookies are going to come in here and run around starting for a good NBA team in their rookie seasons. Just not happening. If 1 or 2 of them make the roster and eventually work their way up into being a rotation player, you are pretty happy.

Nene is a starter in this league. A big big who would completely school any of our camp invites at this point in their careers. The quesion just becomes how good of a starter will he become. Something like 14 and 8 should be virtually guaranteed. But can he become 20 and 10?

Entirely different conversation than wondering if a guy is even going to get invited to camp or not.

That's cool, but he is now a young guy making $10/M and that would be a lot for us to take with Bibby making more than that, and Brad making about that as well, add in K9 and you are over the cap big time. I haven't seen Nene that much. I just wonder how he will recoup from his knee surgery...I hear he's doing good.

Anyone besides me not too anxious to go for TMac, with his injury history and all? If we're paying that much to a player, I would like him to be on the floor, and I doubt his back is getting better with age....

Nene scares me. Sure we know what he did before the knee but what is it like now. Look at C-webb pre and post knee and alan houston the list goes on. I don't want a 6 year 60 million dollar guy with a bum knee.

That is what I was thinking. What are the realities of his potential for this year? He is a great player no doubt.

Nene's was just an ACL. Once upon a time a kiss of death, but anymore, dealt with fairly routinely with guys normally returning at a high level. Thankfully it wasn't any of that microfracture nonsense.

I doubt were getting T-Mac... after the season houston had last season. Rockets chasing Mike James, Brad not being a JVG-type guy, probably. Bibby not being a good defender...

Not sure about that at all, heh

Indeed on nene's knee, Brick.

if its not kg, i just hope its a change in venue rumor. man it would be nice if they came out and said that they found private investors to fund the arena. that announcement would be the best thing to hear for a sacramento kings fan

That'd be an odd move by the Maloofs, if it is T-Mac... but from Houston's stand-point and Ron being here.

?

Actually a Ron/TMac (if healthy) SF/OG combo would be lethal. Always liked Tracy as an oversized overpowering OG more than a smallish SF anyway. Ron leads the defense, McGrady the offense. Guy might still be a 28-30ppg scorer if you get him away from JVG.

But unless the unnamed source above is correct, its most likely a pipedream.

To clarify - I don't believe the TMac stuff, just throwing out an opinion on the guy is all. He's got amazing talent, but he doesn't help much on the bench.

Well, I obviously agree there. But Houston would try to get Artest, and when I made the post I got a bit caught up in the "franchise player" stuff. But you're right. I just didn't think enough.

If we inded do make a move, I want to 100% avoid Nene. The guy is all about potential...

Since when does career averages of 10/6/1/1 steal/half a block a game warrent a 60 million dollar contract?

He is good, but he is not 60 million dollars good.

a torn acl is a huge deal. i would be scared to go after nene... i just had acl reconstruction about the same time nene did and i still cant get back to playin basketball yet. i know he has some of the best for physical therapy but with an acl reconstruction you still have to reconstruct the knee and it never gets back to 100 percent. i would wait for a while and make sure nene's knee holds up! just my opinion

Word.

I'm down with potential, but not $60 mil potential.

Okay, I just saw the clip in question. That was not IMHO Gavin's "I know something you don't know" smile. It was more like his "Yes, we've got irons in the fire but nothing concrete" smile.

C'mon, don't burst my bubble. I read the comments here, went out for Texas Roadhouse BBQ ribs for dinner with my wife and a couple friends of hers and come back to read that?!?!? VF, youre such a downer sometimes. :p I want to log on to see: "KT and Hart and Corliss are traded for KG!" ;)

T-Mac is my least favorite of the elite-level swingmen. I think he has no heart and a weak body. Trading for him would get the hype going and build excitement but then things would fall apart and disappointment would be the feeling at the end of the season.

He sure disappointed the Rockets. They thought he would bring them elite status, and they even started out the season that way. Then, he gets hurt, things turn south in Houston, they end up with a very disappointing season. I am not saying TMac was the only cause for this, but going after TMac was supposed to help the franchise, in a big way, and....it did not!!

Why anyone would want to bring someone with a history of *turnips* to the Kings boggles my mind.

Man Houston had an awful season. It wasn't just TMac's fault, Derek Anderson got hurt and then traded(and then he was healthy), Yao got hurt, when TMac was finally back he took a bad fall and hurt his back(got it fixed). That was just stuff nobody could even predict.

*Ahem* 1999 -- Chris Webber?

Worked out ok. ;)

Its just the same rule as KG or whatever, you get a chance at a star who might deserve the "super" next to it, you gotta go for it. A couple of years agao an old antagonist on this board was advocating getting TMac from Orlando, and I was hesitant. Well...I was wrong. If we could somehow nab a truly great teammate for Ron, we might legitimately have another shot at the big prize.

If you want to see that then I suggest a LOT of wine with dinner;)

Yes, T-Mac might deserve the "super" next to star except for his recurring back problems that won't ever get better. Other players have a variety of injuries over their careers, but the back never really improves. It just gets worse.

The real point of my post, however, was more light-hearted. And Webber actually could be used as proof of the pudding, so to speak. The Kings are cursed. We all know it whether we want to admit it or not. You don't challenge that curse by bringing someone who is already prone to *turnips*... it's like spitting into the wind or stepping on Superman's cape.

:p

If you do bring him here, you might as well just run him over with the limo at the airport so we don't have to hold our breaths waiting for the inevitable to occur.
