They go by ticket sales. The fact there are empty seats doesn't mean the tickets weren't purchased.

That's what it says in the box score. I didn't think it was a total sellout just by watching on TV. I see some red and blue empty seats but I guess the box office counted the number of tickets sold to be 17,317

Not to take a personal stab but is Rudy Gay a family member of yours? You are being incredibly defensive of a basketball player that is in a profession that by its very nature is open to outside criticism and evaluation. Fans analyze, dissect, celebrate, and laud player and team performances. Never critiquing a player makes one a sheep, not a fan.

It was also just tweeted by Scott Moak, announcer for the Kings. Sometimes bulk tickets are purchased but aren't resold. They still count as sold for attendance purposes.
