[Game] Friday morning game

I like this set offense.

Bags screened for Yogi. Rolled in step with Yogi while Bogi rotated to above the three. Gave Yogi two options--a lob to Bags or a pass to Bogi. He passed to Bogi for the wide open3.

Like the NFL, pre-season is hardly worth worrying about. They could go 0-6 and then start the season 4-2 with no worse for wear. More important to stay away from injuries, and give the last 8 through 13 players longer minutes and looks.
Honestly that was exactly what happened last year. They were trash in the preseason that many was already looking at the draft and they came pit in regular season blazing to start

After watching this 2 preaseason games, here are my conclusions:

1) No. 5 can play position 1 on defence but not in offence.

2) As we get older our IQ lowers so trade No. 24

3) No. 8 should play position 2.

4) No. 7 has it.

5) Starting unit shoud be No. 9 No. 8 No. 40 No. 22 No. 35

Curious how many minutes Bogi and Fox can be on the floor together and not throw a single pass between them.
I haven't watched the game today, except for garbage time in the 4th. In the previous game, I remember that Bogi did not have the ball once in his hands in OT, so he didn't have the opportunity to pass to anyone. I haven't paid attention before, but I don't think he and Fox spent time on the floor together. Besides, I don't think it is personal, Fox just has blinders, when he decides it his time to be a hero. Maybe it was what was the coach asked him, who knows.

Wow. Just a whole lot of negatives from today's game. Overall just selfish basketball. Very little teamwork offensively and wide open 3 after wide open 3 for the opponents hs become all to familiar year after year.
Fox making bad decisions with drives and passes and missing FREE throws. Buddy looks good offensively. Bagley is forcing the issue down low but had a much better game defensively. Holmes CoJo and Ariza didn't play today so we could see our 3rd string. Caleb should not be in th NBA too slow period. Guy missed a bunch of shots and JJ plaued good defense but was blocked every time at the rim (like 4 times), and he got hurt. Yogi chucked up some ugly bricks.
What was worrisome was our starters were losing points to indianas scrubs.

I’m not ascribing a reason. I just find it fascinating they can be on the floor for almost the entire overtime and the 3rd quarter and not have a pass between them once.

Problem with DeFox is he's playing like Rondo. Not a threat at all to score outside, and he's just charging into the lane each and every time. If that's how he's going to play (I'm sure he's not) I'll take Tyreke Evans thank you very much.

A lot of work ahead for the new coach.

Same as last game. Got outrebounded by 16 (51-35) and destroyed in the paint (60 -28).
Noticed couple of consecutive possessions where Fox threw an alley oop to Dedmon but he was unable to go get it. Those oops will have to become more on target. The only true lob target for the two man pick and roll game we have is Holmes it seems to me. For some reason Bagley does not seem to be used like that...

The Kings will be better. The problem is , so will the whole Western Conference.
Out rebounded by a ton and killed in the paint. Hey maybe it was not all Willie's fault.
This is extremely disappointing.

Alright let’s relax now, Richaun Holmes is still on the roster

There are some concerns already early in preseason. The biggest one is one that could really hinder the Kings early and it's their pick and roll defense. It goes to show you sometimes when you change coaches things go back to square one in some ways. It took Joerger years to finally figure out some things and Walton has taken the team back to step 1 playing almost exclusive help defense with the big playing off the pnr and the guard showing over into a soft double with the corner defender switching up. They aren't at all on the same page yet but just like we saw for a few years already, you can't defend that way as a foundational set in a faceup guard league. It won't work. You have to be able to switch or and play man to man.

On the positive side we saw offensive adjustments within the span of one game. That's something we haven't see for a long time. Now, the negative is indeed, Walton is running a lot of the same sets the Kings ran before with again, mixed results. There is literally no reason for Dedmon to be posted at the basket off the ball. None. It's probably less effective with him in there instead of Willie who did develop an OK inside game.

There are positives with Dedmon and negatives. Dedmon has never had great hands and isn't a great athlete in traffic. Dedmon needs to be hanging around that 3 point line all the time but Walton wants to run those dang motion sets. Just spread it out man!

Somebody send Walton a recap on the Kings failures the last few years. They mostly involve pick and roll on both ends. Playing too little on one end with proper spacing and not defending it aggressively on the other. If I were a part of the Kings org, I would hire Chuck Hayes as a pick and roll defensive specialist coach.

Its not just the new coach, we also lost a very good pnr defender in Willie. agreed about (not) posting Dedmon.

The mix of bigs we have and their advantages/disadvantages is in general problematic for us I think. Without going into everything I am thinking right now and into the reasons why, let me summarize it like this: In order for all of this to work, "Bagley must figure it out". whatever that actually means.

Umm.. welcome ... to the game of basketball I'm guessing?
Nah he is probably Serbian and Bogi does have a higher IQ than Buddy. It’s also true that in playing ~28 minutes with Fox, Bogdan shot exactly 2 3 pointers and scored 8 points. In 23 minutes with CoJo he got off 5 three pointers and scored 14.

If we are going to play Fox, Buddy and Bogi together than Fox darn well needs to pass the ball to Bogi when he is open.

We have a winner.

To be fair, advocating benching De'Aaron Fox for CoJo and trading one of the best shooters in the league because our IQs apparently decrease with age is still only the third or second dumbest thing that's been said about these past two games on Kingsfans.com.
He should be benched, it would be good for him. But it's hard to explain to you why, so i won't.

As for the No. 24, as you call him one of the best shooters in the league, he isn't, and with him in a team, with role he has now, you can forget playoffs.
