Francisco Garcia.. Remind you of someone?

I was watching the Bulls-Kings game and it looks as if our youngsters are really coming along nicely.

But another thing I noticed is there is quite a resemblence between Garcia and DOUG CHRISTIE , he can shoot dish out the assists and has that defensive mentality and energy he brings.

It seems as Garcia took over Hart's spot and its Doug Christie reborn as Garcia

I'm not sure of Garcia's numbers tonight but they are somewhere around 5PT 3BLK 3STL 4 AST  pretty good for a rookie.

Another hidden gem in one of our drafts :)

Not exactly. Christie was master of the steal, to the point where we called him GTC. Grand Theft Christie.

Cisco has potential but it's way too early to start comparing him to Doug IMHO.

That was always the general style of the player though. Far closer to it than Kevin. All around game, long, ballhandling skills etc.

2 more blocks and he has the ever-elusive 5x5!!!! As a rook!

Go, rook, go!!! :)

He looks sorta like Christie, but with his body type, I'm thinkin he looks more like Tayshaaaaun Prince

that comparison...

I dunno. I still don't see it. He's not as tall/long. Their games are completely different. Garcia makes the exciting defensive plays, but can beaten man to man. Prince approaches it exactly the oppposite. Garcia has guard skills, Prince does not. The only thing even remotely close is just the general class of build (skinny).

Yes Garcia is awesome(do people actually still use this word?). With him and Martin they are sure making up for injuried Bonzi. I hope they both can keep it up.

true. garcia doesnt have the same ability to keep his man in front as prince does. but not to say garcia doesnt have the ability to do so in the future. but i think they both use their stature well to make themselves appear a lot larger than they really are.

Despite Kevin was lauded as the next Doug Christie around here when he was drafted, I agree that Ciscos feet are a much better shape to fill those shoes.

Garcia's game is much more like Christie's, in that neither of them really looked for their own shot. They're both opportunity scorers, they shoot when they're open, they drive when they have an opening, but they just as often concentrated on creating for their teammates.

Kevin's game on the other hand is more suited to creating his own shot and finishing the play.

I like Garcia, but even today Doug is a better athlete.

Cisco masks it pretty well by using his length and anticipation, but his lateral quickness leaves a lot to be desired.

It it time you use that one word......POTENTIAL..... He has the POTENTIAL to be a player similar to doug. For our sake I hope he can be. I feel really good after seeing tonights game the way cisco and kevin were playing.

Looking for others

I just wanted to tell you that you guys gained a lot more fans from the Louisville area when you picked Cisco in the draft.

As far as him not looking for his own shot, that is definately not anything new. One of his criticisms while in Louisville last year was that sometimes he was too unselfish.

I really think that is one of the best parts of his game. He has the ability to slash to the lane with GREAT court awareness to find an open teammate to kick it to.

I love watching him play and I really believe with the addition of Artest, you guys will make the playoffs.

I hope Garcia will bring as much joy to you guys as he did us in the 'Ville.

BTW - I take back his ability to slash being his best attribute. It is definitely his heart. He will give you his all every time he is on the floor. You can't teach competiveness!

I think Doug was terrific, and one of my all-time favorite Kings, but he had a tendancy to avoid taking open shots. He also had a tendancy to choke on important free throws. These faults were related. Cisco is not afraid to shoot. He is not as fearful, and that gives him a leg up on Doug. IMHO, Cisco is not yet as good of a ball handler. Doug repeatedly made those frozen-rope passes to baseline cutters, primarily Peja. I think Cisco will be better, if he is not already better, than Doug in his later years.

I, for one, look forward to seeing Garcia making those "frozen rope" passes to Martin for the foreseeable future...

He can run the point but I don't think that he has the same court vision that Doug had. He can block a shot here and there but he doesn't have the same length that Tayshaun has. He's versatile but I doubt that he'll ever have the power that Kirilinko has.

I'm going to say the same thing that I said about Martin. He's a good unique player who should just be appreciated for what he is.

was wathing nba.com's NBA TV Thursday's game Top 10 and it was almost Garcia's steals, passes, blocks...wow! nice to see Kings in the the Top 10. Well not to mention there were only 2 games yesterday. But was happy to see that the top 10 plays were mostly Kings players doing it on defense.

I also liked the play were Artest swatted a shot and was recovered by the Bulls and made a pass then Artest intercepted it. Wow! talk about Kings D!

No, Cisco is never going to be a stopper. Not what I was trying to imply. But he can be that long, versatile, passing, slashing, disruptive Christie-style OG without ever being anything like the lockdown defender Doug was. Christie-style. Not a Christie-replacement.

Really looks like he might be able to be an effective versatile energy roleplayer though. Good bench type player.

Cisco is a rookie after all. Give him some time. He has been a lot of fun to watch lately. Ron seems to have taken him under his wing and made him better already. Ron does so done so many things for this team already. Do you guys see how Brad had played the last few games with his blocks and aggresiveness. Others too have been playing better. Ron has made the Kings believe this season isn't over and that they can and will make the playoffs if they try hard and play smart.

I actually think he can be a lockdown stopper/defender. You're not supposed to be as good defensively as Garcia is as a rookie -- there's a learning curve that Garcia has largely bypassed. He doesn't have the lateral quickness to say in front of people, but Artest is going to be a perfect teacher. Artest isn't the quickest guy in the league, but once someone gets past him he doesn't give up, he keeps pestering his man and pestering him to force his man into a bad shot. I can see Garcia being that type of a pestering presence, especially with the blocked shots.
