Forum structure

Greetings, Kings fans,

I just signed up recently (about 10/23 or so) and have a few questions about the structure of the forum and the threading patterns. I'll be posing the questions as this thread unfolds. The questions do not involve posting etiquette--as it is well-described in the "Tips" part of the sticky thingy on top of every forum--the questions revolve around the structure and function of these forums.

I have belonged to a number of fan groups and have observed the kinds of structures that forums use, some of which are terribly-designed and others that are very user-friendly with high levels of fan interaction in their shared passions about their chosen teams. Some are messy and hard to interact with; others are very functional and enjoyable--it all depends on the design of the boards, the nature of the people on the board and the level of balanced, attentive moderation that the forums receive.

Based on my experiences on several boards, I have a pretty good idea of what kinds of forums' designs that maximize the fan's enjoyment of their teams' game-time performances and the attendant discussions. I look carefully to try to find forums that are not only well-designed, but have high levels of politely passionate fans who are able to articulate (via keyboard, at least) their views in entertaining ways. I can see that this Kingsfans forum has a pretty large, active and entertaining group of Kings fans and that is a good thing to see.

Some forums allow one to sort of customize their forum interface so that they could maximize their enjoyment of the forum with minimal hassles and I am wondering what kind of customization is most popular on these Kingsfans forums?

And pardon me for my using this forum for this not-neccessarily-on-topic thread--there was no other forum that would have been suitable for this kind of thread; I chose this "Rap" forum because it is the most-heavily read forum for the better exposure to this particular thread.

So to sum up the starting-point question: "what kind of minor customization options do most members in this forum use as it is structured now?".

good question, u can customize ur name and picture and signature, but i think the site itself is set up the same for everyone, allthough it has a good feature where it puts new threads and threads with new posts in bold.. good feature i think....but i dont think u can really cutomize the site itself

Tried a few options

I have tried all kinds of links in my attempt to structure it the way that I'd rather work with, but with little success so far, save for the few minor, but useful alterations--one of which you mentioned--of the function of this forum for me, hence my question to this forum.

Btw, I your handle number, "420" is one of my favorite numbers. I celebrate that number every day. ;-)

Playing with customization

You gotta pay to play with customization. I think I can edit my signature.

Yea, that's what I'm doing in these initial posts/responses. Some good stuff and some missing structure as well. No forum is perfect, but some function better than others.

Is there a reason why you are asking questions regarding the way this forum is structured?

Mozart - I'm moving this thread to the Lounge and closing it. No forum is perfect but we're really pretty happy with what we've got here. As the old saying goes, if it ain't broke, why fix it?

As for some of the questions, they're really outside the realm of what most users need to know to use our board. If you have a specific question, why not try sending a PM to one of the moderators or the administrator?

Thanks...

Not re-opening this thread, but I figured I'd answer this question in case anyone was curious:

Last edited by Mozart : Today at 08:24 PM. Reason: Regarding editing...how much time does a poster have to edit one's post before the editing window closes?
Answer: You can edit a post for up to 120 seconds after the post was made before any further attempts to edit are automatically logged by the system.
