Following 2019 draftees!!!

So the catchphrase this year seems to be "With full intention of staying in the draft" not as cut and dry and when we know they've hired an agent and are in.

Anyways the latest name is Lindell Wigginton Iowa State's PG. Who's vying to become the first player from his Canadian province of Nova Scotia to make it to the league.

How he compares to Frank and Yogi is convo worth having IMO.

One thing I always loved watching him is, he has a GREAT floater. All around solid offensive player.

Oh... Reggie Perry is throwing his name into the pool... Not hiring an agent. \

For us sitting here with just 2nd rd picks..... Very, very interesting name... .He is good offensive player and young and talented, and he's got very solid build for his age,

(footage is from last summer)

Oh I wanna offer up a name for the small-school sleeper list.

Lamine Diane at Cal State Northridge. He is a Freshman but will turn 22 in September... From Dakar Senegal.

6'7" SF... he put up crazy stats this year... 24.8ppg 11.2 rebs(3.3offensive), 2.1ast, 1.5stl, 2.2blks

Tremont Waters is in it seems.... There is no doubt in my mind he's better than Yogi or Frank, so I'm not even gonna get into it further. If they are looking for a small guard this is the kid, he can run forever too. Used to wake up before highschool and run for miles...

Kyle Guy just completely saved UVA.... that was something.... It's stuff like that whereI think "ya know I'd like to see what this kid could do on the Kings"

wORD IS ucla IS pretty much gonna return everyone, and add Shaq's son / Tyger Campbell back from injury. So they should be pretty good.

It appears Tre Jones, and Javin DeLAurier will return to Duke..

Well, they don't have a coach yet!

Wilkes has hired an agent, so he's gone. If Hands and Brown return (nobody else seems to be a threat to declare...I guess I'm not sure where Riley's head is, so...) UCLA is actually one scholarship short - and they're still chasing after Cassius Stanley. They do have two players who will be red-shirt seniors in Prince Ali and Alex Olesinski - it's possible those two will have enough units to graduate and might grad transfer to open up a scholarship or two.

Props to Guy for making 3 clutch FT’s, but I thought that was a bogus call — especially considering it was the last shot at essentially the buzzer and the magnitude of the game.

Was it a foul by definition? I guess. But it’s a play that seemingly 9/10 times they let go since the defender didn’t touch him above the waist and the contact below wasn’t egregious. IMO that was a textbook definition of ‘let’em play and let the players decide it’.

Different sport, I know, but this contact was nothing close to the Saints-Rams game where the NFL allowed heavy contact before the ball got there and absolutely should have called it despite the situation.

Typically most sports leagues let last possession plays go w/o a whistle unless it’s egregious and clearly affected the shot/pass. And even sometimes they let those plays go too.

I have to disagree with you on the foul. That was a perfectly good call because he made contact with Guy's lower body. The shooter needs somewhere to land too. That's a foul call 9/10, but we see it called more in the NBA than college for whatever reason.

It sounds like Duke is going down. Word is they paid Zion's momma off.

I've been following recruitment news for over 10 years, and i do gotta say I was well aware that some of our recent misses in the past few years were because other teams paid these kids big bucks... Arizona and Ayton for sure... If Duke's card gets pulled, which seems imminent, the whole house of cards is gonna come tumbling down, cuz surely Duke and the high and mighty Coach K walk on water, and can do no wrong, or perhaps we've been misled by the media once again?

One of the rumors floating today is that UCLA is after Tennessee's Rick Barnes.

I dont see how the refs can swallow their whistles on that 3pt foul on Guy, if the contact wasn't as high as it was, maybe, but there's simply too much contact and it's all the way up to his hip, In no way is that a reggie miller or jamal crawford special...

A true overhead look would reveal pretty clearly that Doughty undercut his space to land too... He was under him, u dont even really need the overhead to see that.. Bruce Bowen used to try to get away with that crap all the time, he was a specialist at it... It's a foul... did you ever have someone undercut you like that while you're shooting 3? it's dangerous AF...

the thing that kills me is all the discussion about this play and call and no one seems to give Guy, whos EXCELLENT at moving off the ball, any credit for shaking Doughty loose at the start of his motion... If Guy doesnt have him beat by a step and a half by the time he got to the corner, there wouldnt be the need for Doughty to try and recover at the speed he did, and screw up.. Ya know if he doesnt bury all those FT's no one gives a damn about the call either... Thats just how it is...

In sports all too often, fans let fallacies of predetermined outcome rule their thought processes, it's scary. The fact the narrative is about contreversial calls that really arent contreversial at all, instead of his heroics is unbecoming and revealing..

I really find it to be disingenuous the way ESPN carried on about the call... The best part of it all was honestly Guy on the microphone right after the game.... The kid is a cool customer... Didn't he say right away "I've never been a part of something contreversial before" with a big smile -- that was great.

and ya know lets be real Guy bailed out Ty JErome bigtime, Jerome is supposed to be their closer, and if u look at the 3 that JErome took with like 2 minutes in the game, it was contested, and a terrible shot and i dont even think he had it in his hand clean upon release...

Virginia was going out with a whimper, like some lambs... and Guy stepped in at saved the day.. AND it's not even the story of the game, an obvious foul being called is, apparently, according to ESPN...

One of the reasons I like Kyle Guy is the extent people will go bending over backwards to try and besmirch his game, just to me kinda indicates there could be more intrinsic value there, i think the consensus is off when it comes to his value.. He's far from flawless, but a lot of the flack he catches, that people harp on, I wonder how much of it is really legitimate, and how much is unfounded, projected/stereotyped stuff..

It's really a funny topic to me. I'd bet on that kid if i could. He's what they call "a gamer".. I like him better than lets say Frank Mason, different players, different positions, different drafts, different lots of stuff, Frank goes in the top-40 picks tho and it remains to be seen if he can stick. I just think Guy is somehow gonna last in the league. He's scrappy and skilled enough.

and Im not really talking about the last game when I say that, it's really since he was named a McDonalds All-American, he has been catching all sorts of flack..

He's not like some diminutive prospect either, he's 6'2" with a 6'4" wingspan, the NBA has room for guys like that, he's not a starter but doesnt mean he cant give ya good minutes off the bench. Teams run more 3-guard looks now than ever.

I feel like Guy has a decent chance to carve out a Jerryd Bayless type of niche in the leauge, and Bayless was a lotto pick, Guy is a 2nd rder, so I kinda think would be a nice gamble for the Kings.

.

Are they absolved of this? Duke and Coach K are the victim innocent bystanders?o_O

is this like movie American Gangster? did they catch Frank Lucas with the coke in the car? we'll see.

I'm sick of this stuff tho i hope they blow the lid off the whole thing soon enough... they portray whats going on as competitive and fair and really it's like a messed up black-market system for amatuers here, which is awful but actually true. Think about what other kinds of "businesses" are into amauters and black market payments, it's all the dregs of society, and somehow our institutions of higher learning are engaged in these type of tactics, setting up all sorts of trickle down schemes to hide payments, like some drug dealer trying to hide ill gotten gains.. trying not to get their hands caught in the cookie jar.. It's an embarrassment.

It's very clear there's a system in place where it's advantegous to cheat, and accept the penalties after the fact, and it will all pay off in the end.. and there's a whole bunch of people playing dumb like it isn't that way... Mark Emmert is a thief and a patsy! He's either an inside guy, or completely incompetent. THe President of the NCAA, how do you not resign with all this stuff going on under your nose. The next president of the NCAA will be 100x better just on the strength of how low this guy set the bar. Unbelievable. If the dude had a shred of moral fiber he'd resign immediately and say he was unfit for the task at hand.

The Louisville thing is outragous, how are people not up in arms about that crap, i'll never know. I really do believe in part that the powers that be, marketers, tv companies, media what have u has just beaten the publics standards down to pitifullly low levels to where they accept this stuff, that is just the best way i can explain it. It shouldnt be palatable, but somehow it is, not to me tho, thats crazy.

When there's smoke there's fire... this thing is gonna blow up soon..

UCLA is a mess right now. Until they hire a coach that knows what he's doing, they'll never be any good. Dam shame too! A school with that tradition should never be in this position. I won't bore anyone with the details of the debacles that have occurred in their search for a coach, but it appears that whoever is in charge doesn't know what the hell he or she is doing. They've been without a head coach for what, 2 months now, and the way it looks, they'll be the last team to find a new head coach.

How do you go after a coach with a 8 mil buyout, work out all the details, leak that he's close to being signed, and then refuse to pay the buyout, as though you didn't know it existed. What am I missing here? How do you hire a coach away from a top school by offering him less than he's making there? Who is running that show?

What the heck is going on there Capt? One spot open and their chasing Stanley? Their still on the short list for Jaden McDaniels who is the 6th ranked player for 2019. When last I checked, they've signed only one player in the top 100 for 2019 and that's Jaime Jaquez, the 76Th ranked player in the country. They have no one in the top 10, or the top 50. Stanley is the 27th ranked player in the nation, and he's from LA for god's sake, he should be an easy sign. This is sad to watch!

Look, I like Guy as much as you do, but the fact that he's a 6'2" SG is going to push him down in the draft. I'm certainly not going to bet against him, because of his toughness and his ability to score the ball. But there aren't a lot of successful 6'2" SG's in the draft, and most of the one's that are are combo guards. I'll put it this way. If I have to choose between Guy, and his teammate Ty Jerome, I'll take Jerome, and for a lot of the same reasons I like Guy, except that Jerome is a 6'5" PG.

So the question is, do you think Guy can play the point? He averages 2 assists a game against 1.4 turnovers in 35 minutes a game. Not exactly stellar. He only weighs 175 pounds. What happens then he gets busted by a Buddy Hield, or when he has to guard 6'7" Klay Thompson? Just asking, and not saying he couldn't make it work. I'm saying the odds are against him. But, he can shoot the rock, and you can't play at Virginia if you don't defend. I just don't know if it will translate to the NBA.

That said, I'd be happy with him sitting in our 15th roster spot, just to find out.

I'm not a fan of Barnes because of his record at Texas. He had a lot of very talented teams there, and almost all of them under-performed. I realize he had a great year this year at Tennessee, but I can't help but wonder if it wasn't a one year fluke. Personally, I'd be very wary of signing him. I would have been happier with Musselman than Barnes, and I'm a little skeptical of him as well. But at least I know he can recruit and build a program.

Well, if the "leaks" (if that's what they really are) are coming from the UCLA admin side, then yes, they're complete and total idiots. But I'm just not so sure that's the case, as the level of idiocy required is so far and above normal human capacity for idiocy that there might be another explanation. At any rate, already two guys the media have said had offers (Calipari and Kruger) have explicitly denied even meeting with UCLA. So I'm not sure that the whole "debacle" isn't made-up Twitter bullpucky from the start. For what it's worth, I don't think UCLA has said a single thing publicly about the search.

As far as the fact that the job has been open for three months, well, of course it has. Alford got canned right around the turn of the year. UCLA wasn't going to replace him with a permanent head coach unless that somebody was out of work at the time. So the timetable was always that UCLA was going to be waiting until target coaches got bumped from the tournament to pick one of them off. What does it mean that they haven't hired somebody yet? Does it mean that dreams of Bennett or Beard are actually still alive? I don't know. Was Dixon ever actually offered? Or did some click-hungry media type covering the biggest NCAAB coaching opening of the season jump the gun without actual info, and then have to make up a backpedal? Honestly, the whole "debacle" looks a lot more to me like media throwing crap against the wall and seeing what sticks than admin incompetence - as incompetent as people can be, even I can't imagine the admin going from "we're totally paying that $8M buyout" to "we can't possibly pay that $8M buyout" in 24 hours. It makes no sense.

We'll never really know, of course, but if UCLA ends up snagging a top coach of some sort it might point towards this being nothing but a media storm.

Edit: And just to make my point, Ben Bolch (who I am guessing is a major crap-flinger in this whole process) retweets a FAKE ACCOUNT saying Barnes to UCLA is done. Has to renege, but insists he's still "being told" it's happening. Nice try at a save, but I think he's just full of it. I'm honestly not sure anybody knows anything about the search.

Well, if they can land Stanley or McDaniels I'm sure either would really help the class. My sense is that there may be more need for help in the backcourt than the frontcourt, since O'Neal will be in the mix next year and it looks like reality may have sucker-punched Moses Brown. Add that to Riley (who shouldn't leave) and a defense/energy/garbage guy like Hill - and we don't know if redshirt senior Olesinski is going to graduate or not - and there may not be a lot of room in the frontcourt. Smith will handle the traditional SF slot. With Wilkes and Hands both gone and redshirt senior Ali a question mark, the backcourt is basically Campbell coming off injury, Singleton, Bernard, and two frosh. There are probably more minutes for Stanley.

Well kudo's to you. You made that sound logical. Still, the fact that UCLA can't, or won't land a top 10 player has to hurt. I guess I'm still living in the past when every top player wanted to go play for UCLA. Hard to recruit though when the player your recruiting doesn't know who his head coach will be. The info I was referring to came from usually, very reliable sources. But without knowing the actual source of the leaks, who knows. I'll step back into the shadows and wait...

Great win for Virginia. I really didn't have a dog in this hunt. I liked both teams and would have been happy if Texas Tech had won as well. But it was nice revenge for Virginia after going out in the first round last year. Guy had another great game. The dude can score. Hunter showed up big time, and Jerome did what he does, 8 or 9 assists. When all three of those guys are clicking, Virginia is hard to beat. Feel sorry for Culver who struggled to make a shot. Not how he wanted to go out. You may sell me on Guy yet.......

Well the deed is done. UVA is your national champions in an OT thriller, outstanding game.

De'Andre Hunter with just a monster performance. Tony Bennett with most excellent adjustments. Guy was on his game. Jerome threw about 4 picture perfect dimes, missed a few floaters but he was pretty good.

Diakite was very effective in the opening minutes of the game kinda tapered off a bit, they went with Key who did a fantastic job.

Diakite had this offensive rebound in the 2nd half tho that was just unreal. It was like picture perfect idk how u'd really describe it he is really, really athletic tho, he's got long arms and big hands too. He can come flying in at high speeds with his body contorting around and snatch the ball out of mid air, and he rises quickly.

If we have 2 2nd rd picks I would LOVE to have national champions Kyle Guy and Mamadi Diakite. Seems to me like we can do a lot worse than that.

Yeah kinda feel bad for Tariq Owens for fouling out so quick too. and gotta feel bad for the Texas Tech bench they were great and kept them in the game...

Ultimately Culver was outmatched tho, One one of the very first possessions of the game Culver maneuvered down near the baseline to take ajumper and Hunter almost volleyball spiked it back in his face, Culver got the shot off but it had no chance at all.. that was kind of a dubious start...

I could never be suprised by Hunter defending someone really well tho, after u demonstrate that on a good night u can lock down MArvin Bagley there's really not much more to prove in my eyes.

I can't help but think that a performance like that, from De'Andre Hunter, in a game like that, isn't gonna leave a positive impression on some teams who probably liked him a lot beforehand...

The thing is tho... Moses Brown... He's the key... I am a bigtime believer in his ability to put on a show at the college level.. We didn't really see it this season but he has it in him... I believe he's gonna have a monster offseason too, and he should cuz he stands to gain (in the words of Anton Chigur) "everything" ..

It's a moot point because he's gonna return; how far would he fall in this draft?? I'm not convinced he'd fall out of the 1st rd really.. His workouts for teams would go well, he has the type of game that looks very good on open court doing drills.

I like Smith too, and his game just pairs well with Moses.

Well I've like Hunter all year, and have had him as a lottery pick for sure. How high he goes probably depends on who is picking and their needs, but I see him going in the 4 to 7 range. He outplayed Culver, and frankly, I would take him ahead of Reddish. I mean after you get past Zion, Morant, and Barrett, whose better than Hunter. A week ago I might have made a case for Culver, but after that game, it would be hard to put Culver ahead of Hunter.

There are some naysayers that don't think Hunter is a great athlete, but he sure looks good to me. He's definitely capable of guarding three positions, and probably four depending on the matchup.

I thought Brown had a decent freshman year. He was plagued by inconsistency, but had enough of those games to see his potential. He needs a good coach. I think it would be foolhardy for him to declare. Wouldn't surprise me to see him test the waters though and see if he can get a guarantee. I thought Hands was the best player on the team this season. We'll have to wait till next year to find out about O'Neal.
