You do realize you just ruined a whole bunch of fun on the over/under predictions before I could even get the thread started, right?

Dude, this is only the second game. It's gonna be a loooooooooooong season. You have to learn to pace yourself.

:p

Haha I don't see why this was so much Reggie's fault. And in fact we're basing it on one game because I think most people were quite satisfied with the T wolves game. Reggie can't help it if his star player scores 9 points

I don't want him fired now but as soon as the season is over - he has to go

I agree give him till the end of the year and let him go. If we do decide to free him at the end of year we should do it quick. As in before the playoffs. That way the new coach will have all summer to get to know the players and have some imput in the draft process.

Isn't this something we should be discussing in February or March? The game was bad tonight, but we have to give Reggie a chance until then.

#8
I didn't see the game but wtf? Did Reggie blow a 19 point deficit by calling a bad play or something? How could a game with that score get pinned on the coach?

Barring one of those 2-17 starts or some such that put so much pressure on a team that they feel like there is no choice, Reggie's fate, at least as far as surviving until the end of the season, will depend on whether he can keep the team together through these struggles or whether he starts spouting off again, there is squabbling and drama etc. If we stay together, I think barring an impulsive Maloof move Reggie survives what most rational people realized was going to be a rebuilding year. If we collapse into chaos, Reggie starts calling people out, guys quit on him etc., its buh bye.

In any case its not happening in Week 1.

God i hate to say it but i might have to hop onto this bandwagon if games like this continue. Does anyone here have reasons for firing him? When will Petrie get the blame and whoever else put this crappy roster together?

the fact that we suck is not his fault but the way we suck is

There is no plan, no structure and no one is improving. And we can't have that.

Ya. I'd like a change to happen sooner then later because development is key. I'm not ready to yell fire Theus but something better change soon.

Its a rebuilding year. Kevin's complete collapse aside, the roster itself is showing signs of hope for the future -- our best two players of the first couple of games have been precisely our young frontline guys that might be our future frontcourt. Whatever else happens, win or lose, the real key to the season is the development of those guys and maybe Greene, because in a perfect world in 3 years you'd want the starters to be ?, Kevin, Greene, Thompson, Hawes. If that can happen, then the rebuild is well under way. So there is no particualr blame to be had for not putting together a winning roster this year -- just so long as the signs are there that it could be a winning roster in 2 or 3 years when we are ready to emerge from the chrysallis.

The real concerns now are Kevin and Beno, given that we recently gave both guys long term deals as a supposed part of that future as well. They have to do better.

they look like an 8th grade bball team out there, there is no chemistry, ppl are running around not knowing what they are gonna do....there were numerous possessions in todays game that had way too much passing, ppl passing up open shots

This thread is the result of a semi-sarcastic comment I made in the game discussion thread. Since tonight was such an abysmal disappointment for some fans, I posited a question of how long it would be before a "fire Theus" thread came to be, hinting I should start an over/under pool...

It's one of those "inside joke" kind of things that just don't look the same after the fact. If the OP is, in fact, actually suggesting he's serious at this point about wanting Reggie replaced, I disavow any and all correlation to my comments in the above-referenced game thread.

**** happens ... and tonight it happened all over the place.

I've said it before, as have many of the seasoned veteran fans around here. Rebuilding is NOT for the faint of heart. You have to pace yourself and not get too discouraged about the low points OR ecstatic about the high points.

It's not time to fire Reggie Theus. It's not close to time to fire Reggie Theus. It's just time to recognize that we are truly a team in the process of rebuilding and take what solace we can from things like the obvious potential being shown by our future frontcourt.

Baby steps.

VF21 (Vlade Forever #21) just in case anyone does not know the handle - thanks for being the voice of reason here so often. Also, nice of the BEE to say as much about you. I missed the broadcast due to another commitment, but now am within minutes of seeing the re-broadcast. I'm not really looking forward to viewing the carnage, but hopefully find something positive - instead of the knee jerk - Fire Theus! Maybe the only thing is this game is now history and will quickly be forgotten in the swift turnaround back-to-back.

You're in for a treat.

Which is appropriate given the night -- the Kings put on their own horror show for the benefit of the fans.

I didn't see the game tonight, but I can see from the box score that Kenny Thomas didn't play tonight. That is reason enough not to fire Theus.

People really need to relax. Yes, we were blown out and some of that is on the coach but the players are out there playing. Some people needed to step up and lead and guide the team and unfortunately that didn’t happen tonight. We didn’t have a leader.

To fire Reggie, right now is not right. I think it’s a mistake to switch so many coaches in a short period of time. Yes, Reggie does have an ego and it does get in the way (some times) and yeah he talks to the media a little too much, but he’s trying to get the team together and that’s going to take some time; some days we’re going to look amazing and others we’re going to look like we’ve never played together. But it’s going to take some time. Reggie needs time. The Team needs time. We’re getting young and we’re probably going to get younger and with youth comes mistakes, excitement (future possibilities) and a lot of patience. I wish we started this whole process years ago (the year we got our “big three”).

I like to give Reggie this year to take the team. I really hope they’ll grow, but I’m pretty optimistic and I think he can do it. I just hope that he doesn’t push the team away from him. It seems that this year is going to be rough, and if he can’t control himself/the guys then we probably have no choice. But this was only one game.

Here we go again. I hope veryone remember all the "Fire Adelman" threads. Perhaps the Maloofs can hire a combination chef-coach that can make chicken soup out of various waste materials.

I plan to just watch the games and see how the season progresses. Did anyone really expect the kings to win games this year? Could Phil Jackson win games with these players?

What A horrible game. Let's fire Coach Theus because he is the reason the Kings are incompetent. While we're at it, lets trade that useless Kevin Martin. After all he's decided his own fate with these TWO miserable games...;)

This is ridiculous. Two games folks. If we have great game tomorrow (hopefully) the tide will be coming in again. Lighten up a little.

Miller is out. Thompson should be getting 30+ minutes a game... not 18 & 22 minutes(yah he had foul trouble but we were down thirty, leave him in and let him learn).... How many minutes is Thompson going to get when Miller comes back. 10 or under??
Do we even have an offensive system running? If he calls that the tri-angle offense.. I call him crazy. PS. Reggie use your timeouts a little wiser while on the road.. I love how they got two or three steal and break away dunks before a timeout.
O how I miss Rick.

This is premature, of course, but this is Theus' last season, and there may be better coaches without a job hanging around next year.

Maybe give Tom Thibodeau a chance? Jeff Van Gundy?

JT still got more minutes than Moore, and Hawes led everyone with 34minutes. JT's minutes went to Shelden which isn't that bad, it's not like Reggie is playing Mikki for 40 minutes or something. Developing the young guys doesn't mean giving one guy a whole load of playing time. Guys. Plural.
