Fire Keith Smart

#92
The Maloofs are not going to fire Smart. He's doing exactly what they want. He is making fans tired of this team, losing their passion and their love for the team. This will result in an empty arena, and they will have an argument to move the team. That's their goal. They don't give a xxxx about Sacramento, being competitive and winning here.

This team right now is embarassing. And what hurts me is that we have some talent, and with a good coach we could at least be competitive. Not a playoff team maybe, but at least a fun 35/40 wins team.

I spent 165 euros, more or less 200 dollars to get the NBA League Pass and be able to watch the Kings. Right now I feel like I wasted my money. At least I love basketball and I can watch other games...
Yah I agree. I have felt there is a reason this team was put together.. It's a bunch of pieces that don't match but who all have name recognition so the Maloofs can say that they tried to sign FAs with name recognition and that the fans still didn't come..

[tinfoilhat] I just think there is a reason for all this. [/tinfoilhat]

Horford and Smith have talent. We expect them to give the Kings trouble. When 2 guys like Williams and Teague can take over the game, that tells you that the defense hasn't made much improvement. On offense the Kings make runs with their second team. They stand around a lot. The desire is not there for many players, with the exception of Thornton and Thomas maybe. Thompson works hard. Cousins comes to play most nights, but not last night. The transition defense is terrible, and the rebounding is weak. Both are based on desire. For what the Maloofs will pay there are few better coaching options out there. I am losing my enthusiasm for watching this team because they don't give the effort like the end of last season.

I agree the post-games comments are troubling. He may have lost the respect of his team. It is easy to lose, and difficult to regain. The next 10 games could be really sad.

coach smart makes questionable decisions but look at our roster. honestly lets be real theres not much to work with.ive been a kings fan all my life and there is just no talent on this squad. tyreke evans had a good rookie season but being completely one dimensional and unable to adjust is his downfar, hes not very good. we have players like salmons outlaw garcia and even isaiah thomas. i dont think these guys wpuld even see the floor on a contending team. demarcus cousins is solid and aaron brooks can put points on the board, thornton is ok but too inconsistent. our defense and offense is terrible because of a lack of effort. i see emotion from cousins and thompson but everyone else doesnt look motivated. i hate seeing tyreke floating around the 3 pt line and seems a bit slow in whatever he does. this is not coach smart entirely, share the blame.

Little bit torn on this.. On one hand, in my opinion Smart isn't and wasn't an NBA calibure coach, I'd put him at a mid-level NCAA level. On the other hand, I don't really blame him for the record as I think the roster is not up to par, which lies with Petrie/Magoofs.

Going forward, I don't know about replacing him. Over the long haul definitely, but for the season, what is the objective? It seems we are already, 10 games in, in a state of counting lottery balls, so what is winning a few more games going to achieve towards that end.. on the other hand you are concerned about the development of the players, and keeping some players happy playing here.

Smart is not the problem. The problem is that we have a bunch of dudes running up and down the court who think they know how to play the game as a team. I put emphasis on the words "think" and "team"...

I signed up just so i could give my 2 cents on this topic. I don't think it's too early at all. I don't think it's too early to completely change this team. This may possibly be the last year(s) of the Kings being in Sacramento, and the best fans have to suffer by watching terrible basketball. We deserve better. I've always liked Cousins until these past few games, after he got his 2 game suspension. I don't even care that he got suspended. But what I do care is when the team is losing and he continues to pout at the refs, walk up the court instead of run, and not be in shape after missing just two games? The team is losing and this guy is walking up the court. That's pretty weak. True winners try their hardest and spill their hearts on the floor. This team is not willing to do that, neither is the coaching staff, or Petrie. I support firing Coach Smart and also making some trades. If it was my choice every player except Thornton would be on the trading block. Tyreke and Cousins are never going to be leaders. Tyreke is too quiet and doesn't care enough, Cousins pouts too much and when he gets pissed off it makes him play worse. And he gets pissed off a lot.

We know most of these guys limited talent. Why can't we give Jimmer some substantial minutes to see if he has anything. It's not like we're fighting for a playoff birth and can't take the chance.

* It's becoming a theme this season:

Jimmer Fredette plays.

Jimmer Fredette plays well.

Jimmer Fredette has to guess if he'll play the next game.

Fredette has played 20-plus minutes only once this season. Fredette has only played double-digit minutes in consecutive games once this season.

If that pattern continues, Isaiah Thomas will play more tonight.

"I'll try to settle down in maybe two or three games where I just lock into one guy and see how that goes," Smart said. "Obviously those two guys need to know game-to-game where they are."

Fredette has been one of the Kings best plus/minus players all season and Friday night's loss to Indiana was no different."

I agree, Jimmer has been our most consistent gaurd this year, Tyreke has shown he's clearly our best gaurd, but Jimmer has been shockingly consistent despite erratic minutes from a terrible coach. Jimmer has the tools to compliment Tyreke and Cousins very well, more than any of our other gaurds.

Yep.

I was stunned to wake up today and see that Keith wasn't fired after the Denver game.
That's because he is doing exactly what the Maloofs want him to do...drive the fans away!

I was on fire Smart bandwagon about 2 months into his stint as an interim coach but what we ended up doing was give him 2 years on top of that

We need Smart.

When we get a top 3 draft pick to replace Reke when he bails on our craptacular franchise, we'll have Smart to thank.

Smart? Like a fox!

It's not even optional at this point "coach" Smart has to be fired. Bjax anyone? I'm willing to take the chance on him, why the hell not. I would love to see who his assistant coaches turn out to be. We need someone who some pride in the team and who would take these embarrassing losses personally.

What scares me even more is this trend that Smart is now riding our veterans. So, not only are we losing, but IT, JJ, Jimmer, and Trob aren't getting experience to develop

It just puzzles me what it takes to get a guy fired or players traded. 5 straight losses with multiple blowouts in the season, a season where everyone in the organization was talking about making a run for the playoffs and all, and here the FO is sitting around perfectly content with a .292 winning percentage?? I mean, blame the players or the coach, but you have to blame someone!

My guess is they're going with the "Injury, suspensions are the reason we suck" approach. Which is semi-true I suppose, as we've probably only had 12-14 games this season where someone wasn't suspended or injured

It's hard to be a fan right now. I watched about 3 games this season and I wish I didn't watch any (those three games happened to be some of our worst losses). Nothing is right with this team. Absolutely nothing. From owners to coach to roster. It will be 7 years of not even sniffing playoffs. Someone has to care on the team right? I understand there is a lot going on behind the scenes that 99% of us aren't privy to, but it is hard to root for a team like this. It has become hard to find bright spots even. I really geared myself up for this season thinking this was really the year where we would see some larger than normal strides being made. Just more of the same, even worse actually. Depressing. Here's hoping for a miracle.

It's very interesting that you mention Bobby Jackson. Has anyone else noticed how he seems unwilling to accept the pathetic effort that we've been seeing from this team? You see it in interviews. You see it in body language on the bench. The other coaches seem willing to roll with this poor play. But Jackson seems disgusted by it. If you wanted to roll the dice and fire Smart, Jackson could be the guy.

I fully endorse this post. Give Bobby Jackson a shot. Everyone thought the warriors were silly for giving up on Keith Smart so soon. Who's laughing now. The Warriors will destroy us this week. Send Brooks to the bench and start Jimmer with IT as the back-up. Aaron Brooks is a turnover machine with very little assists.

Unfortunately everytime you hear him speak in a coaching capacity he sounds like an idiot. Like he has no clue at all and is just there as a name or a face. None of our other coaches impresses as brilliant, but they sound like they know what is going on. Bobby...he sounds like an amateur commentator who's jsut been invioted to sit in with the team during halves or whatnot. And that comes from somebody who has always liked Bobby. But he sounds no more qualified than my dog walker. Or would if I had a dog walker.

OUr coaching is such a mess, but if BJax really is copletely unready, it could quickkly reach full fledged debacle again. We just cannot afford that at all at this stage. Sucha mess. We really need a true pro who knows the score and who the players will instantly trust to know the score. But the Maloofs are so putrid they can't afford one and no one wirht having would accept. Take away money and I'd go for almost anybody with an established clue at this point. I'd even accept Larry brown, who loathe. Well...Nellie would be goign too far. He'd jsut make things worse. But Brown, McMilan, Vand Gundy, Slaon... whoever. Get me a damn pro in here.

Who happens to work well with Reke. Which is the most important trait our other guard can have. Sans Reke thoguh its all exposed.

I'll take your word about Bobby Jackson. I've just heard snippets from him, not lengthy interviews. I agree about getting a pro in here. (I'm just not optimistic about getting one; hence the B-Jax thought). People can debate to what extent the lack of $ has affected the roster or not, but there's no debate that the lack of $ has affected who has been hired as a coach.

Hey, all I have is a few sideline interviews and youtube clips during summer league and whatnot. Behind the scenes Bobby could be Red Aurebach. I don't know. But nothing I have seen has remotely supported that notion for me.
