Favorite Movie Villian

Padrino

All-Star
actors will often say that they enjoy playing the bad guy every now and then. it's more psychologically interesting. so, inspired by the recent favorite horror movie villian thread, i figured i'd see who your favorite movie bad guys are, in general. here's a few of mine, in no particular order:

jack torrance (as played by jack nicholson in 'the shining')
jack napier aka 'the joker' (as played by jack nicholson in 'batman')
colonel nathan r. jessup (as played by jack nicholson in 'a few good men')
frank costello (as played by jack nicholson in 'the departed')
hans gruber (as played by alan rickman in 'die hard')
captain james hook (as played by dustin hoffman in 'hook')
jules winnfield (as played by samuel l. jackson in 'pulp fiction')
john milton (as played by al pacino in 'the devil's advocate')
bill the butcher (as played by daniel day lewis in 'gangs of new york')
howard payne (as played by dennis hopper in 'speed')

i know, i know...i'm a huge fan of jack nicholson, laker fan or not. what can i say? he's amazing...

:)

You got some great options here, but this one really sticks out to me. A great movie, and a superb role by day lewis. Such a dominant, powerful role. One of my favorite villians ever.

Where's Hannibal Lecter?

hehe...i didn't make this a poll for a reason. i offered a few of my favorite baddies to start us off, but i'm not giving people options to choose from. i'm asking y'all to think for yourselves. ;)

discuss those characters in film that we love to hate the most!

Where's Hannibal Lecter?

Ooh....yeh, that would be the #1.

Did really like Colonel Jessop though, and thouhgt Daniel Day was amazing as Bill the Bucther -- alas in a movie that I insit was one of the most overhyped self indulgent pieces of junk ever to be given credit just becuase of the director's name.

Zorg (Gary Oldman in "The Fifth Element")
"You're a monster, Zorg." "...I know."

Scar (voiced by Jeremy Irons in "The Lion King")

Bill (David Carradine in "Kill Bill Vol. I & II)

Shooter McGavin (Christopher McDonald in "Happy Gillmore")

Annie Wilkes (Kathy Bates in "Misery")
"Mister Man!"

Dark Helmet (Rick Moranis in "Space Balls")
"Now you know that evil will always triumph, because good is dumb!"

Dr. Evil (Mike Myers in "Austin Powers")
"...a million dollars!"

...and one of my personal favorites,

General Zod (Terrance Stamp in "Superman II")
"KNEEL BEFORE ZOD!"

Good list, and additions.

I've got to echo John Doe from Se7en -- in the same year that he played Keyser Soze in The Usual Suspects, this was Spacey's better villian.

Also need some love for my mafia villains; DeNiro, Pesci and Liotta (Jimmy Conway, Tommy DeVito and Henry Hill in Goodfellas) are all on my list, as is Pacino's Michael Corleone especially in The Godfather Pt. 2 -- having Fredo whacked in the boat is enough for him to make the list.

Cruella De Vil skinned puppies. That's pretty bad.

I know the guys will appreciate the addition of Zed and his country-fied friend from Pulp Fiction.

good one! michael corleone in the godfather part ii was a complete badass. simple as that. cold as friggin' ice.

Se7en is the only thriller I've ever liked. That movie is up there with any of Hitchcock's classics.

Pesci wins. Especially after Dennis Farina tells him to "Now go get your *ing shinebox!"

I know the guys will appreciate the addition of Zed and his country-fied friend from Pulp Fiction.

"Zed's dead, baby...Zed's dead."

Great choices from all the previous posters on this thread so far!

Here's another fave villain of mine, although the movie is a bit more obscure:

Ben Kingsley as Don Logan in "Sexy Beast" (2000)

It's a far cry from his soft-spoken roles in Schindler's List, Gandhi, etc.

Has anyone else seen this one? It's one of my favorite crime dramas.

Ursula the Sea Witch.

Yikes...

(No particular order)...:D

Kevin Spacey: "Verbal" (The Usual Suspects)

Anthony Perkins: "Norman Bates" (Psycho)

Darth Vader: (New Hope/ The Empire Strikes Back)

Ben Stiller: "White Goodman" (Dodgeball)

Edward Norton Jr: "Derek Vinyard" (American History X)

Ian McKellan: "Magneto" (X-men 1-3)

Anthony Hopkins: "Dr. Hannibal Lecter" (Silence of the Lambs)

Al Pacino: "Tony Montana" (Scarface)

oh yeah.... the SHARK in Jaws... or the Dinosaurs in Jurassic Park...

Scar (voiced by Jeremy Irons in "The Lion King")

General Zod (Terrance Stamp in "Superman II")
"KNEEL BEFORE ZOD!"

Pixel you beat me to it. Believe it or not these 2 immedietly sprung to mind for me after the obvious and perfect choices such as Hans Gruber, Darth Vadar, and Hannibal. I would add:

Prince Humperdink-The Princess Bride
The Wicked Witch Of The West
Alex Forrest-Fatal Attraction

Hal 9000 (from 2001: A Space Oddyssey)
Norman Bates (from Psycho) Anthony Perkins
Nurse Ratched (from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest) Louise Fletcher
Cody Jarrett (from White Heat) James Cagney
The Wicked Witch of the West (from The Wizard of Oz) Margaret Hamilton
The Alien (from Alien)
Alex Forrest (from Fatal Attraction) Glen Close
just for fun....
Cactus Jack (The Villain from "The Villain") Kirk Douglas
and the worst of the worst.................
Mr. Potter (from It's a Wonderful Life) Lionel Barrymore;)

I'm suprised nobody has yet mentioned a James Bond villain!

So, here's mine:

Gert Frobe as Auric Goldfinger in "Goldfinger"

Lawrence Olivier's "Christian Szell" from "Marathon Man" was a good one. Nominated for Best Supporting Actor. Quite a bit less menacing than Ralph Fienne's role from "Schindler's List".

Randolph and Mortimer Duke were fun old crumudgeons from "Trading Places".

"El Guapo" from "Three Amigos!" was amusing.
