EVANS is a ROOKIE... step away from the edge

What kayte said happens to be true at times, so there's no desputing that. Lets face it, the Kings are at their best when they share the ball and move without the ball. For whatever reason that just stops at times. I remember the old team with Webb and Vlade doing the same thing at times. So this team doesn't have a patent on it. At the same time I understand what Westphal is trying to do. The only way to learn how to go one on one with Kobe is to go one on one with Kobe.

Growing pains can be tough, and to be honest I sometimes think its tougher for the fans than it is the players. Players move on quicker than fans do.
Yes, you are probably correct. It is tougher on the fans than players. However, I really wish Tyreke would pass the ball more often. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad we have him, but I'm just asking that when he is our PG, that there is more ball movement.

If Evans is the future the Kings would be best suited to put a ball handler in the back court with him because I still don't think he has the court vision, and passing ability of a PG.. I really don't think Martin will fit well with him when he comes back. BUT... The kid has a ton of talent, and whatever position he ends up playing I am sure he will be just fine.

Well, I've been thinking about this today, and even though I am a big fan of Westphal, and I can definitely understand why he handled the situation the way that he did, I still think, in retrospect, that regardless of the outcome of the game, there was a problem with letting Tyreke take the last play and putting him back in in OT, for the following reasons:

1. Tyreke was having a bad game. The play at the end was a good one (Isolated on Kobe, he was supposed to drive and had a good chance of either getting the bucket or a foul). However, part of the learning process is to learn how to acknowledge that you are having a bad night and that perhaps letting your teammates execute that night is preferable. There is certainly no shame in that and it's not backing down. It's called trusting your teammates.

2. The team was doing really well without him in OT. While it's important to build Tyreke's confidence, it is just as important to build the rest of the team's confidence. There will be times when they will have to execute down the stretch, or at least help Tyreke execute, and they will not learn to do that if it's only Tyreke making the final play in every game. I'm sure it was also very frustrating for the players who were on the court to lose the momentum they had because Tyreke was slowing down the pace instead of pushing forward like they were doing until then.

Anyway, I have faith in coach Westphal that he knows what he's doing and will make sure that the team chemistry does not diminish because of these things. Perhaps when KMart comes back things will be more balanced status-wise.

I have no problem with Westphal putting Tyreke in the positions h'es been in at the end of games. The more chances he has to be in that position, the better his decision-making well get and the better he will know what he can and can't do.

Jordan says he missed a lot more bizzer beaters than he ever made. Would you not have wanted MJ with the ball in his hands with a game on the line?

Yes, I especially wanted to beat the Lakers. I always will. But I came away thinking "Wow, we took the champs to double OT!" I can't believe the difference in this team in such an amazingly short amount of time. They are very young and I think we have a lot to look forward to again.

Although, I hope Evans ankle problem isn't going to become a big issue. He's doubtful for tonight, according the the Bee and hurt the ankle during the Laker game. Now that would be sad.

^^^didnt we beat the lakers by like 13 last december without martin? beating the lakers is fun but damn....

I like Evans and believe he can be a superstar.

However, one of MJ's best plays was a pass to Steve Kerr who hit a game winner against Utah. I'm sure with time Tyreke will learn the nuances of late game decision making. I do wonder how much if any his confidence is effected by repeated failings at the buzzer?

Great players aren't affected that much. They usually have the mentality of, I'll get him next time. I know when I played ball and a pitcher struck me out. In my mind I never gave him credit. I always felt that I had made a mistake, and I wouldn't make it the next time around.

When you think about it, whats more fun, or challenging for a great player. Going one on one with Bobby Brown, or with Kobe. You don't expect to win every time with Kobe, and thats what makes it fun.

I'm flabbergasted by some people on STR.....they are seriously calling for Tyreke to be traded. Wow....

I'm not finding it. All I found recently was joke about trading Tyreke for Maynor (Eric Maynor is an in-joke over there) followed up by a series of other jokes. Didn't see any serious proposals.

All I found was a bunch of people who apparently have stolen...er...I mean "adopted" my Peaches nickname for Brockman and are now chanting it at games. :p

Long live Peaches! (just as long as I receive proper accredidation and royalties)

I believe that when that other board uses Peaches, it refers to Grant Napear.
