Spencer is easily the one of the worst starting centers in the league right now. He is way to much of a liability for this team when hes on the court. We need a big true center NOW!

hes not ready to give us what were looking for from him. were throwing him out there for the dogs. the dude is 21.. I think westphal has to use him more wisely. We may of gotten rid of miller a lil too early. I thought Spence was going to be more ready.. but i guess not.

We don't need another Miller. We need a strong, shot blocking, tough center. NOT a soft "petrie" center.

Bingo!
Could you imagine the kind of offers we would be getting for Miller and K9?..

lol im not saying we need another miller. Im fully aware of what we need. I was saying we got rid of miller too soon because hawes was not ready and still isnt ready, to take his place. Now were stuck with a 21 year old center, frustrated out of his mind without a niche on a supposedly developing team.
Anyways that was the past.

We need to make a trade for a center. We have alot of SF's and an expandable Star SG. Make it happen already. enough of this forcing the issue on Hawes.. who is obviously not ready to have the issue in his hands.

I've certainly never been a Hawes fan and I was one of the people who was most upset when we drafted him, but at this point I've come to accept there are worse things that can happen to a franchise than drafting a decent backup center with a 10th overall pick. Clearly people are frustrated with his play right now, but let's be reasonable. The kid is still only 21 years old. He may never get it, or he may just be a couple years away. Part of the argument for drafting a 19 year old is that you expect him to mature and get better. It would be nice to have someone tough down there, but there aren't a lot of starting calibre 7 footers in the NBA. And there's even less that are very good defenders. All of Hawes' weaknesses are exagerated right now because there's simply no one else on the roster. Either he'll improve or we'll get a better player through draft/trade/free-agency and he'll be a better backup than most teams have. And hey, remember when our starting center was Olden Polynice? Now THAT was bad.

I never understood why the team drafted Brad Miller Jr when it was shown that a Brad Miller type fails in reality.

Yup. The only way you can be a successful team with a soft center is if you have another tough low post presence. Vlade owes his success to Webber. We have ZERO low post presence on this team. The last thing we need is a three point shooting, soft, center.

Hawes and JT are both very young and that will bring inconsistencies. It's part of the "youth movement" so get used to it.

If you don't like it you could always suggest a more consistent MLE. :D

Part of the problem is there isnt even another C on this team...?
We need someone with experience at that position.. We cant just expect Spencer to learn it all on his own. Now im very far from giving up on him, because that would just be plain dumb because of his very young age. but we just put him in a terrible situation.

i think its pretty clear we need to make a move for a center.

My last 5 or so posts have all been regarding spencer hawes and the fact that he is only hurting this team. yet every time i post, kings fans tell me to stop bashing him. im glad everyone is seeing what complete garbage of a player spencer is. i like paul westphal, but his faith in spencer has me in doubt. enough is enough. he is a 3rd string "Center".

Yeah, but we're coming off a 17 win season. I don't think fielding a 'complete' roster was part of the plan this year. We're still trying to figure out what works and what doesn't. And fortunately, so far a lot has been working. More than expected anyway. We all knew the center position was going to be a problem this year. Unless you're a major Sean May fan or something. Even if Hawes had improved on last year, we still don't have anyone to back him up. But there's no point making an immediate change. The winning is important and it's exciting to watch, but you don't want to derail your long term plan with a short-term fix.

For instance, we've been debating a trade for Okafor or Dalembert and there's a lot of pros and cons to both of those scenarios. Either one would involve a greater financial commitment and a certain amount of risk which may or may not be warranted (depending on which side of the debate you come down on). Right now Hawes is young and inexpensive and under team control for at least the next two years. That's a lot of reasons to stick with him through the rough times. The center position is not an easy one to fill in the NBA. Take a look around the league and you'll see a lot of teams with patchwork solutions like we have. We will need to make a move for a center at some point of course, but it shouldn't be a knee jerk reaction. Wait until other team's start dismantling pieces, see what's available in the draft, look at free agents.

I guess what I'm saying is that it was probably wishful thinking to ever expect Hawes to be a stud starting center in the NBA. And in the NBA right now the center position is a problem for every team until it's not.

Spencer is like Duane Causewell with an average jumper. I'm THIS close to moving on from the Spencer experiment myself. I'd rather us be playing small ball right now and starting JT at center.

JT is not a center. You start playing him as one and you'll only compound the problems. I can't be the only one who saw JT make numerous errors tonight - in both judgment and execution. And I'm sorry but if he doesn't stop bouncing the ball when he gets it inside with a clear path to a dunk I'm going to end up hurling my spleen.

Hawes is a soft loser and JT is a stupid fool who can't make a layup.

This fool JT missed another wide open layup today. You have to be mentally handicapped to miss those.

Our front line is lame. At least JT can play aggressively and rack up stats, even though his stats are worthless when you take all his stupid mistakes into consideration.

Hawes, on the other end, needs to be benched and not get many minutes. This guy is absolutely worthless. Let Brockman play.

Like i said in the other thread... They are not starters. JT is more of a starter then hawes by a long shot though. At least he can still be salvaged if she shoot layups many many many layups during practice.

That is the last thing in the world I want to see.

JT is a completely different player at the 5. He got destroyed all summer league at the 5. Hes a power forward and his game shouldn't have to suffer because Hawes can't hold his own.

I can't wait to see JT matched up with a real center.
You'll be eating those words. Thats for damn sure.

And what are you? You say Kings fans. Do you exclude yourself from that group. Or are you also a Kings fan. Are the words you choose to use, Bash, and Garbage. How would you like it if I called you garbage??? Something useless and to be thrown away. Well in this league, one persons garbage, especially a person that didn't have patience, becomes another man's treasure.

The older I get, the harder it is to suffer fools. We have a bad game and the freaking world comes to an end. What? We had a four game winning streak and all of you thought we were on our way to a championship? Welcome back to the real world. This is what young teams do!!! They tease you. They show glimpses of what they can be. Just enough to keep you interested and hoping. And then they disappoint you. Giving birth is a painful process. But there aren't any shortcuts folks.

Do you know that Dirk Nowitzki was terrible his first year in the league. Do you know he was booed by the fans. You, would have called him garbage. You would have shipped him out. And you would have made a big mistake.

This is by no means a defense of Hawes, or Thompson, or anyone else on the team. There were a lot of mistakes made by a lot of different players. Turnover after turnover. It was made worse by one of the most inept refereeing crews in the NBA. I was hoping they would just swallow their whistles and die at one point. Neither team could get into any kind of rhythm. But it had nothing to do with the outcome.

The team is coming home and has a chance to get a couple of wins against very bad teams. Up to now they've played a pretty tough schedule with the Warriors being the only team in disaray. It was just a bad game. It happens! Move on..
