Emotional locker room:

bajaden

Hall of Famer
I haven't seen this posted anywhere, so if it has sorry! This is from Sam Amick's twitter.
Apparently Westphal called out Tyreke after the game in the locker room. Tyreke was obviously upset, and left without talkinig to the press..

We touched on it breifly in the game thread, since it came out last night, but do you have an idea what Westy said? I can't find it anywhere, and the Kings postgame coverage on TV isn't available where I live.

So far, I haven't heard anything as to exactly what was said. My guess is that either Amick or Jones will write something about the incident. The only people that know what was said, are those in the locker room, and unless one of them speaks up, we'll probably never know. From reading both Jones and Amicks Twitter comments, its sounds like Tryeke was commenting on the loss in the locker room and Westphal stepped into the conversation and pointed the finger at Tyreke. That apparently upset Tyreke and he left without saying anything.

The other thing I gleened from the twitter comments is that many of the Kings were upset with Casspi being blamed for the loss and started defending him. As to who was doing the blaming, I have no idea. Hopefully someone will clarify the whole situation.

Actually it sounded like the reverse on the first part -- Westphal singling out Tyreke for not attacking the zone correctly, Tyreke not being happy since he wasn't the only one not executing, him mumbling something back, and leaving. Did not sound too serious, but there is a danger zone here. The team has been playing well and playing together, but it can't go on losing that way forever or the losing itself will tear it apart. And a conflict such as this can either cause a group to pull it together again to get over the hump, or can break the unity with which its been playing. That would be a damn shame, and really is something this franchise can't afford. It would also spell the end of Westphal after the season.

The only person I saw confronting Casspi was Beno. Westphal had some vague quote about it, but nothing aggressive. Maybe just reporters pointing out the obvious failings. Or maybe they were upset with me for doing the same. :p

I was keeping my eye on this story last night too. Its unfortunate. We are playing well.. MUCH better than we were a month or so ago. This kind of stuff can ruin the momentum we finally have. I dont know who started it or who's fault it is, but as the coach I think sometimes you have to let some of this stuff go and stop fighting back. Lets the kids be immature every once in a while. You dont need to go fighting with these guys everytime something comes up.

And if its going to happen it should be said behind the scenes. This is not time for a public rift.

So Beno confronted Omri after he bricked the 3? If he did, I missed it.

Aside from that, I have to wonder if the last play was drawn up for Tyreke, and instead of swinging the ball to Tyreke, Omri jacked up that shot. If Tyreke is getting blame for late game execution, and Omri was the one who blew off the play, I can see where that would add to Tyreke's fustration.

Last play was drawn up for Reke -- Omri confirmed that. But I am not sure I can get behind the "it was a bad shot" line of thinking. It was a mostly open three, taken by our best statistical three point shooter. The fact that Omri choked hellaciously is not really the point -- you could easily draw a play up to get just that shot (although we did not, and Reke was supposed to have it).

And Beno went to Casspi and Casspi gaver him some sort of exaggerated explanation on court after the buzzer, nothing more. Wouldn't call it a confrontation so much as just a "what the f happened" sort of inquiry, and the resulting explanation.

Looked to me like Beno was shocked at how for off the shot was and asked Omri if he was fouled and Omri shook his head. Could be wrong...thought I read his lips though

The Beno/Casspi thing at the end of the game was nothing... I watched it a couple times. I could read Beno saying something like "what happened" and Omri shrugging saying "don't know". Then they walked off. There was no tension there, just a simple question as to why the shot came up so short.

I will concur on this one. From reading his lips I thought Beno asked "Were you fouled?" and Omri shook his head no.

As your comments would carry more weight, I'm sure it was you...

Regardless of who the shot was drawn up for, no one can blame Casspi for taking the shot. By the time Beno passed him the ball the clock was down to about 3 seconds. To try and pass the ball again would possibly mean getting no shot off at all. Casspi said the ball just slipped in his hand as he was going up, and I believe him, because thats what it looked like. I seem to remember coachie saying something about Casspi's ballhandling not being up to par, and part of it was because he had small hands for a guy his size.

Way too much talk about the last shot and not nearly enough about the many brain-dead turnovers that occurred in this game. You just want to kick some of 'em in the shins with some of the idiotic things they do. And I'm not talking about Cousins' 6 turnovers. He gets the rookie pass. But everybody else should have black and blue shins.

If the play was drawn up for Reke and he didn't do what he was supposed to do, resulting in Omri taking a shot that he wasn't supposed to take, then yeah, Reke gets some blame for that.

Two defensive plays stand out to me. First, Kings turn the ball over Evans and I think it was Watson both at half court, Watson in the middle gets the ball and Evans jogs behind him. Didnt try to get back and break it up. Second, Kings back on defense Bell was wide open in front of the Jazz bench as Evans runs from the otherside of the court where he was guarding nobody.

I wonder what this was all about? Hmm...none the less, I don't mind it. He's been getting way too many free passes and it's about time somebody stepped up and told him what he did or didn't do. Everybody needs to be accountable, not just him. But on the other hand, doing this will make the players hate the coach more probably.

I had the impression that Evans was a step behind so to speak on several occasions in the late 4th quarter. At the time I wondered because he acted like he was tired. He turned it on and off in that period but looked like he wasn't himself. Anybody else notice this of Tyreke? Almost like he didn't get enough bench time late in the game to recharge his batteries.

I don't think Tyreke is in the greatest shape. He conserves his energy a lot. If he could be in very good shape he could take his defense up to another level.

I don't disagree with the last sentence, but he has taken his defense up to another level compared with last year. If he simply matched last year's offensive capabilities; he'd be a much more complete player.
