Me neither... I saw her judge that episode of So You Think You Can Dance... she's alright for a guest judge but as far as the full time gig goes I fear that she won't take anything seriously. On SYTYCD she constantly made wise cracks and all of her analysis' appeared to be without real logical thought.

Ellen is a big fan of Idol, always has been. Since she's joining the show after the preliminaries anyway, I think she'll do okay - and actually might represent more of a "fan's" view than anything else. It's not like I've really felt Randy's "dawg" analysis all the time anyway.

I didn't have a problem with Kornheiser since he's at least a sports talk show guy. Miller, better than he got credit for, but still really bad and totally the wrong audience. The other guy after him was even worse, thankfully he only made it two games or so.

I don't get the Ellen thing, I thought it seemed obvious that Paula was done and that's why they brought on the 4th judge this season, to get her acclimated and then go back to 3. 4 judges was a disaster from a timing perspective, its why the shows always ran over, though I guess they like that since it inflates their ratings.

Here is my review of this pickup:

1. Even Paula Abdul had worked in the music industry to some degree; Ellen has no musical training at all, if a contestant rebukes her judgement, who is more reputable? Probably the contestant because the contestant likely has some level of experience in the music industry. Seems like a critical flaw.

2. Have you ever seen Ellen take a joke or, worse, a harsh criticism? I have not. All I know about her temperment is that she completely went nuts over that rental dog thing and had to (or should have) apologize for her irradic behavior. I can just imagine when she is ripped by Simon a couple times, her quitting or coming unhindged.

3. Ellen is not know for being a team player; she is and has always been best as a solo act and conversation/attention dominator.

Basically, I predict this pick to blow up.
