Early look at some 2012 freeagents:

I'd like to resign Williams, and if the Kings were willing to spend the money under my scenario, then I'd add him. Just trying to be a little realistic in a fantasy. I didn't expect you to agree, but I think your wrong about Ilyasova. His defense may not be Kirilenko like, but he's not a bad defender. I've been watching every game I get a chance to see, and puts out a good effort every night. Plus, if we have Davis patroling the paint, were not as desperate for a defense only type Sf. And, if I'm signing Ilyasova for the SF position, I don't care if he makes 8 mil a year because he would be a young starter with upside. I mean no disrespect, but how much have you seen Ilyasova play? I ask because frankly I'm surprised by your negativity about him. This kid can really play! And he's getting better!

Oh well, thats why beauty is in the eye of the beholder. As for trading Hayes for Milicic. Yep, I'd do it! While I like Hayes as a person etc. I don't think he's had much of an impact on the team. At least Milicic would bring some size off the bench, and he's proven he can block a few shots and rebound a little. With Cousins eating the bulk of the minutes, someone like Milicic is all you need at minimum at the backup position. When Whiteside gets up to speed, Milicic moves further down the bench.

All of a sudden I hear Napier saying there's no way he would sign T-Will to a contract longer than one year. Too high of a risk. This after we hear ad nauseum about how great a guy he's been with the Kings. Did something happen that we're not aware of?

He seems like a real good player, not great in any particular department, just very good all-around though he's not very good but still solid defender. Main thing is he's going to be paid, and yesterday I saw on Bucks' realgm.com board that Ilyasove was quoted "I will go where I get most money". He expects to be paid and most likely will highest paid Kings' player if he comes here. For that price he doesn't bring anything special or new for that matter. I remember many "Fire Adelman because he plays his 8-man rotation too much" threads. But players like to know they are trusted and they are guaranteed playing time. When coach doesn't have set rotation he can't build a cohesive team. So where Ilyasova comes in? Cousins is likely 32 mpg player next season. If JT retained he should get at least 25mpg. Will Ilyasova be team's 3rd big? Then team is again starving for paint protection and you expose Cousins to easy foul trouble all the time. Instead of JT? JT is better defender (not by much) and defensive rebounder - both areas where Kings need all the help they can get. Kings should rather go for serviceable paint protector like Camby (close to a courpse) or Dalembert (this ship is probably not just sailed, more likely it's somewhere in a Pacific ocean right now). So yes, that looks like two very distant options so maybe if you manage to ship HAyes out or Chuck is content to wait for spot minutes or injuries, it's an OK pickup but nothin to get excited.

I don't disagree with much of what you said. Except that maybe I believe Ilyasova has a higher upside than you do, and therefore is worth the investment. Personally I could live with having just Camby and Ilyasova added to the team, depending on how the draft plays out. Especially if we could find another home for Hayes. 8 mil might make Ilyasova close to the highest paid player on the team, but when compared to who is on the team, he might look like a bargin a year from now.

Now if we get lucky and end up with Davis, or if not, and end up with one of either Robinson or Drummond, then I would change directions in the freeagent market. I'd love to bring back Gerald Wallace, or make a deal for Batum, if possible. I really, really hope that they give Tyreke this offseason to make the necessary improvements before considering a trade for him. Unless its a deal that you just can't pass up.

Contrary to what Napier says, I believe he has inside info, and then goes out and lays the groundwork for whats going to happen. My guess is that it will take more than a 1 yr deal to bring Williams back. I could be wrong, but if I'm him and I've been bounced around, I'd sure like a place to call home for a while.

For a second there I thought Ilyasova changed his name to Wallace. :p

Absolutely can't let JT walk right now. He's our only real PF. We're already hurting for depth at that position. I'm sure we'll just match whatever is out there, unless the offer is absolutely crazy. As for Donte, I think we wasted him here, so I don't know what to think.

Anyway, we can still keep the two and go after Batum/Drummond. We need depth. We're not at the cap limit - we're at the cap floor.

I agree with that, and think both he and Jerry drop hints, which makes me nervous. Did you hear Jerry practically salivating over Josh McRoberts during the LA game? If that's the type of "talent" which excites our FO, our situation isn't going to get that much better. But these two are also the same two who told us multiple times Salmons and Chuck will help turn this team around.

I've felt for some time that Grant sends up test balloons for the Kings FO. Can't prove it, but I always get suspicious when he starts beating a drum a little too much.. In the case of Josh McRoberts, I would be fine with him on our bench as a reserve big man. But I don't want him starting next to Cousins, especially in place of resigning Thompson.

ewwww no drummond. I like Batum but Drummond will be a terrible NBA player.

You say it as such a "matter of fact". Truth is 99% of draft talk are presumptions for all we know A. Davis is Whiteside and Tyler Zellar has a first class ticket to the HOF. Remember when Roy Hibbert was to Mechanical and had lateral footwork issues and Beasley was Antawn Jamison OOPS.

The things I would is:

1. Move Tyreke to the SG position
2. Get a tough veteran PG who can hit the open three, handle the ball occasionally and defend. Hinrich or Kidd
3. A SF who is a good defender, can play off the ball and who's able to hit 3's. Batum, AK47
4. A shotblocking, defending and rebounding C to play besides Cuz. Preferably Camby or someone like him.
5. Get rid of Greene, Salmons(amnesty) and Outlaw.

My starting line-up would be

Kidd, Evans, SF, Cousins and Camby. Thornton would fill the Jason Terry role, JT as a backup 4/5(like Nick Collison) and Cisco(or MKG if we could get him) as the backup SF. IT as the 4th guard and Hayes the 4th big.

PG: Kidd/Hinrich
----------------> Thornton/IT
SG: Evans

SF: Batum/AK > Garcia/MKG?

PF: Cousins
-----------------> JT/Hayes
C: Camby

But what to do with Jimmer...hmm

Kirk Hirnrich makes sense but the first order of business would have to be doing something about our plethora of guards and so-called SF's because he will never sign here under these conditions. MKG would be PERFECT as the year progressed the more he looks like a Doug Christie type game changer to me:D.

This latter question is unaddressed by a lot of proposals. I think Thornton has to be traded. This is not because he is a drag on the team because he is far from it. He perhaps packaged with another player (a SF?) could get us a great player at any of the positions we need help at. He is great trade bait. It is infinitely easier for this team to trade than to pick up FAs.

It's my opinion, but I did see a lot of him, and in my opinion I believe he will be a bust. I have no idea why, and I have no scientific method behind my madness, but watching people play I can gauge if they will be NBA players or not most of the time.

I have been wrong though! I didn't like Teague as a PG and he's on a playoff team. I didn't like Thaddeus Young and he is doing OK. I didn't like Evan Turner either but he is doing well in the playoffs.

Then there are guys like Hasheem Thabeet, Joe Alexander, Jordan Hill, Hilton Armstrong, Saer Sene, Al-Fariq Aminu, Ekpe Udoh, and many others that I just had a feeling would bust. Most of those players have considering where they were picked. In Darrell Arthur's defense he has been injured a lot.

EDIT: Also forgot about Tyrus Thomas. I would fight tooth and nail with anyone who said they wanted that guy on our team during the draft and when people wanted to trade for him.

2nd EDIT: Took Darrell Arthur's name off the list. I just saw he wasn't even a lottery pick so it's hard to call him a bust. He is a decent bench player when he's healthy.

Junior, junior, junior, senior, total unknown, sophomore, redshirt junior. Do you see the trend? And the only sophomore is not 22 yet and progressing nicely.

I have said MANY times that JT is as good a 3rd big on a great team as one could hope for. He is no Lamar Odom but he certainly fits a description as a VERY GOOD role player off the bench who bring energy, size and a bit of everything. He can play PF and some C, can score a bit, is a good rebounder, solid defender, solid passer and a very willing role player. I would certainly re-sign him and be very happy about it.

However, I just do no trust our ownership and front office. They have abused my trust too many times for me to continue to blindly believe them. I would be BITTERLY disappointed but not surprised if we don't bring JT back. I would not be happy about it but I can see the ownership and management letting him go because they have all this money invested in Hayes who is a pretty much immovable contract as there is still some $15 million and 3 years to go on that deal and no other team would touch that with a 10 foot pole. If we are lucky enough to get #1 pick then its pretty much a given that JT is not back. Again I do NOT agree with that as I would be as happy as pig in a **** to go forward with Cousins - Davis - JT trio but the team will not be willing to spend that much.

I honestly can't see how we are going to spend anything other than the absolute bare minimum requires and if JT gets a reasonable offer, our team will bulk at it because they have made an absolute mess of a good situation some 6 months ago.

Really not surprised. Nets were always going to be the front runner for AK who has a friendship with their owner who no doubt would pay him handsomely for his troubles. That is one of the reason I never believed the crap paddled by peaches that Kings were the front runner for Kirilenko some 6 months ago. He was highly unlikely to leave CSKA and if he was prepared to do that, Sacramento would be well down the list of potential suitors that he would choose.

I also think we are no chance of getting Batum (even though he would be my one and only FA target this off-season)....bottom line is, we are not an attractive destination at the best of times, let alone now when our owners have been exposed as jokes and the future is so uncertain. That is even overlooking the fact that our owners do not have the money to spend or are willing to spend.

I still have hopes for Udoh. I wouldn't mind seeing him on the Kings.

PS I hated Alexander and Thabeet. Lukewarm on Hill. Liked Udoh. Liked Turner and Teague. I think I also liked Thomas.

Resign JT 5yr/30 mil
Resign T-will 2yr/5 mil
Sign Ersan 5yr/40 mil
Luck out and get a top 3 pick to grab MKG

IT/Jimmer
Reke/Thornton
MKG/T-Will/Salmons
Ersan/JT/Hayes
Cousins/Hayes/Whiteside

Our offense becomes absolutely beautiful and we go from the worst defensive team in basketball to a middle of the road defensive team. Plus, the offensive parts fit together perfectly in the starting 5 and we can go 9 deep on the bench.

I'm on the fence when it comes to Ersan Ilyasova, obviously he's talented but anything over 5M/4YR deal and I think we will have buyers remorse. On the other hand a player like him has trade value down the road for example 12/13 season when Garcia expires a package like that can be attractive to other teams.

He's not the kind of player who will end up busting. He's incredibly efficient, he's a knock down 3pt shooter, he doesn't demand shots, he's a fantastic rebounder, he'd be by far our best post defender, and we could probably snag him for the 7-8 mil range.

I think everyone knows I liked Udoh, but I never thought he would just waltz into the NBA without some misteps. He's another of those late bloomers thats going to take some time. But I still think he's going to be a good player in the NBA. Turner I loved, and I still do. He's had to make a transition with a few bumps in the road, but I think he's starting to find his game. No one downplayed Thabeet more than I did. He was a no brainer for anyone that watched more than one game.

Didn't like Tyrus Thomas, and I still don't. Alexander was such a good athlete, and another late comer to the game, that I cut him for more slack than he deserved. I won't make that mistake again. Never go against your first instincts. If you have to talk yourself into a player, your probably wrong. I know, I've done it, and I was wrong almost everytime.

I really like Ilyasova, but the bigger the contract, the more your betting on him being something special in the league. And if that happens, then yeah, he would be easy to trade. But I don't think you enter into any contract with the idea of trading the player. If he were to sign for lets say 9 mil, your betting he's worth 9 mil. And if he proves to be, then why would you want to trade him?
