Drummond Workout 6/14/12

Certainly don't have to worry about him getting off the ground. Not as sure handed as Demarcus, but then again, who is.

PS. I hope Gavin isn't giving Drummond financial tips at the 3 minute mark.

This is where a GM's job is pretty hard... Lots of red flags, but also a lot of talent and an incredible body. I don't know, for sure I won't be disappointed if we draft him. If he reaches half of his potential, we would have the best front court in the league.

I think Drummond will be very very good next to Cousins and Evans. I hope we retain JT and Whiteside, and Greene at SF ( yes, I haven't given-up on Greene...lol) and we're set on our young bigs for a long time. One of them we can also use as chip for important trade deal if ever.

Now, it's just a matter of tweaking the rest of the roster to balance the team. IT or MT should go.

Important to note that he is a whopping 18 years of age.

He's going to be really hard to pass up. You just don't see that sort of size + athletic ability often. Plus, all he really has to do (at first) is compliment Cousins skills.

Well you can clearly see the tantalising combination of size and athleticism. Would have liked him to dunk it every time and show some more aggression, but that's nit picking. He also looks more timid and unsure of himself than he should, given that he could physically eat most of the centers in the league already. Still, he's 18 years old. The potential is clearly there. Once he realises he can bang with the big boys, he should gain more confidence. He also clearly lacks a post game, but that can be worked on, and isn't even necessary for what we need. I remain completely torn by him, and am just going to leave it to Petrie. I will be very excited if we draft him, I love his physical abilities and potential, but I will also be scared that it doesn't work out, because there will be many very good players taken after him. Glad it's not my job this time around...

EDIT: Just watching his interview, best one so far of the players that have worked out for us. Very impressed. Whoops! He just called Cousins a vet. I'll give him a pass on that one!

Rem his idol "growing up" was Kevin Durant. :p

When you're 18 anyone over 20 is old, and anyone over 30 is dying.

The main problem with Henson as has been said time and time again is that he weighs roughly as much as Tyreke Evans.

funny thing. anthony davis weighs roughly the same also yet no one makes a big deal about that. i dont understand why hensons weight is always brought up. lack of offense...ok, but i dont understand the big deal with his weight when the #1 pick weighs almost the same and about the same height

#1 pick's weight is absolutely a problem -- if he stays 220 this future peopel are projecting isn't goig to be very bright. But he's also 2 years younger, and weighs about 30lbs more than Henson did at the same point of his development.

That again is the scariest thing. 18yr old kids are sometimes built like little kids. By the time you're 21 you should have filled out. When your "fill out" only gets you to the same point that an 18yr-19yr old, with a kid's body came out of high school with...

With Henson its not just that he's terribly skinny. Its that he's terribly skinny AFTER putting on 30lbs, and the question of how many more he can realsitically add, and add without slowing himself down.

Because Davis has the excuse that he's still growing into his body, he was 6'1" two years ago. He's also two years Henson's junior so its not out of the question that he can add more weight.

Video looked great to my untrained eye. I'm going to guess that Hassan could have gotten those last 2 blocks. Drummond is more solid than freaky spider-like

I think defensively, he may wind up more like Kendrick Perkins only better at blocking shots, yes.

Henson is a much safer pick in which we could actually trade down to get him & another peice or pick.

Safer in what sense? Picking a 215 pound powerforward is never going to be a safe pick. To be a four in the NBA, you have to have the size to bang down low. Ask Anthony Randolph how being a underweight 4 has worked out for him. Henson has defensive instincts yes, but if we were really into having a skinny defensive big man, we would have just asked Hassan not to bulk up.

Apples & Oranges, It's clear they both need to add a few lbs but thats where the similarities end because Henson is actually talented.

Hassan is also 7 feet tall and now weighs a sprightly 240 pounds. Unlike Henson, he has been able to bulk up, has displayed flashes, still has a high ceiling, and, here's the kicker, is already on the team.

If Whiteside has so much upside then I doubt we would be considering drafting another center in the first round. I can't say much about Whiteside because I have never seen him do anything. He was in the developmental league last year.

You know in all fairness, our FO has gone to acquire pieces that fill all the needs on our team that we can see. Its just that they are like budget versions or haven't lived up to expectations.

Defensive 3pt shooting SF - Salmons was a good defensive player who could hit 3s. But came back here and sucked. Donte also had potential to fill the role (I actually see him doing so a few years down the road for another team)

Shotblocking PF - Whiteside. Hasn't proven his worth.

Ballhandler with range to play with Reke - Jimmer. Came here and sucked.

So its not like they are ignoring our needs, its just the guys they go after to fill them arent very good at the moment..

Just got home and finally got a chance to watch the video. Wow this kid jumps with EASE. He'd be perfect complement to big Cuz if he pans out. Definitely needs a lot of work on his post game, though with Cuz already in the post it shouldn't matter too much. I think he's got too much potential to pass up if he's available at 5!

They have potential to get better except I have my doubts Salmons will ever be worth his salary. Whiteside was a second round pick (I think) so not a big loss if he doesn't work out.

Raw, raw, raw but there is talent there. I just think what this guy is going to be like at 300 pounds. My advice is for him to insure those knees for whatever he can. Greg Oden the sequel. If it's a question of weight I'm more worried about Drummond being too heavy to play next to Cousins than Henson being too skinny to guard PF's.

I like his attitude though. Seems like an easy going guy and I think he'd be a good sidekick to Cousins with that attitude. He should be really easy to get along with.
