With their 10th selection, kingsnation drafts...

George Karl

Our team needed a Head Coach and I believe Karl is the perfect guy for this team. He has coached 21 years in the NBA and his teams have only had losing records 3 times. His teams have only missed the playoffs 3 times as well.

He would've brought a title to Seattle if it wasn't for a guy named Jordan, who is now one of his players. So, I believe with Jordan and Karl, it will be a perfect fit.

He helped bring the Bucks back to prominence with Ray Allen and is currently leading the Nuggets possibly to a NBA Final.

His teams have also won 6 division titles and he has over 900 career wins.

Nice pick this late. I would have taken him. I need to stop sleeping on the coaches. :o

With their 11th pick, kingsnation selects...

Mike Budenholzer

Assistant Coach to Gregg Popovich in San Antonio.

For a little perspective, Budenholzer arrived in San Antonio the same year as Pop and has been along side of him through all of their titles. He is a offensive guy, so pairing with the defensive minded Karl will be a great fit.

One of Budenholzer's specialties is running a 2 minute offense. He also is well known for attending various summer camps and training sessions scouting and training new talent.

Budenholzer has been trained and has been learning from Pop for 15 years and will bring professionalism, experience and even some of Pop's gameplans to our team.

Mike has served as the head coach of the Spurs summer league squads on numerous occasions

Budenholzer is also the next in line to take over for Pop in San Antonio.

"First of all, Mike has a wonderful understanding of the game," Popovich said. "That's a requirement. He's really good relationship-wise, too. He's secure in his own skin and he's able to tell a player the truth whether the player wants to hear it or not."

OK, I'm going to nab my head coach here. I was back on fourth on alot of different players, so instead of forcing myself to choose, I'm just going to solidify my coaching scenario.

My pick:

cavscoachmikebrown.jpg

Mike Brown

Mike has won wherever he has gone. He learned the game as an assistant before becoming a head coach, and he was one of the NBAs premier assistant coaches. In 2000, Brown was hired by Gregg Popovich as an assistant coach with the San Antonio Spurs. While with the Spurs, Brown's teams won at least 58 games each season. After winning a championship with San Antonio in 2003, Brown was hired as associated head coach to Rick Carlisle with the Indiana Pacers. He helped lead Indiana to consecutive playoff appearances including a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2004.

Mike Brown's record as an assistant coach is 341–201, or 0.629.

As a Head Coach:

After learning the game under Gregg Popovich, Brown is widely regarded as a defensive specialist. He turned the Cavaliers into one of the top defensive teams in the NBA and guided them into the 2007 NBA Finals.

In June 2005, Brown got his first head coaching stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers, becoming the second youngest coach in the league. On June 2, 2007, Brown's Cavaliers defeated the Detroit Pistons in the Eastern Conference Finals and advanced to the NBA Finals for the first time in the history of the franchise.
In 2009, Brown was named coach of the Eastern Conference All-Star team, making him the second coach in Cavaliers history to coach the All-Star team, joining Lenny Wilkens who coached the East team back in 1989.
On April 20, 2009, Brown was named NBA Coach of the Year after guiding the Cavaliers to a franchise best 66-16 record.

Some of his achievements:

07/08 EC Champions
All-Star Coach of Eastern Conference 2009
Has had winning seasons in each of his four years in charge (50-32, 50-32, 45-37, 66-16, that's a win pct. of .643%)
Has playoff record of 32-30
EC Coach of the Month for Jan. 2008
2008-09 NBA Coach of the Year (66-16)

With Brown and Thibodeau as my coaches, I don't expect anybody to be able to score on us at will. Particularly not when I've got Mutumbo in the middle (4X DPOY), Bobby Jones (10X All Defensive First Team), Alvin Robertson (DPOY and 6X All Defensive Team and all time leader in steals), as well as host of other players who've made All Defensive Teams.

LeBron, MJ, Kobe, Larry, we're waiting for you... :D

I need some more all around scoring punch and athleticism. This guy brings it all. He is a clutch shooter, a great ball handler, especially for his 6'8" frame. He even started at point guard for a couple seasons, so he could match-up well with Magic head to head.

He's a freak athlete who gets after it on both the defensive and offensive ends. He can start or come off the bench at either the 1, 2, or 3 spots, fitting in nicely for Manu in the starting lineup, or coming in for LeBron at small forward. He is a great rebounder for a guard, and has excelled in Mike D'Antoini's up tempo style with the Suns. Plus, the best thing is he is absolutely money in the 4th quarter when the game is on the line. What's not to love? With my next selection I pick:

Joe Johnson - G/F 6' 8" 225 Lbs.

I need some 3 point shooting and some more overall scoring to come off the bench. So, thinking about 2 players but I'm gonna go with

Michael Redd

Accomplishments:
From Wiki:

Great shooter, which is what my team needs. Can be a leader of a team (Bucks) or can fit well into the "team" mentality, after playing for the USA and winning gold at the Olympics this past summer.

Brad_Daugherty-360x450.png

Brad Daugherty

Smooth and consistent, Daugherty was a 5x All Star who might have been a 10x All Star if his body had held up. An extremely good 20-10 center, and just behind the Vlade/Arvidas/Walton grouping as a passer, he was unfortunate enough to play in an era when there were a whole slew of great ones. If he played today, he would be right there with Yao and Dwight as the best in the league.

RICHARD HAMILTON

finals9_si.jpg

Consistent, Reliable, Durable, Fast, Smart.

Well I have a Reggie Miller clone in Richard Hamilton, I also have 3/5 of the Detroit team that downed the "Greatest team ever assembled" with their smothering defense.

Well when Pippen and Frazier and Richmond are done wearing you down, guess what? You get to chase after Richard Hamilton around.

Best season of 20.1/3.2/3.2/1 on a blistering .491% fg shooting with .458% 3 pointers..

3-time NBA All-Star, NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player, 1x NBA Champion

On May 13, 2008, Hamilton surpassed Isiah Thomas as the Pistons' all-time leading scorer in the playoffs.

I've updated the board...again.

On the clock:

bdouble013
vikinginferno

PMs have been sent, although I doubt if vikinginferno will take long.

Next up AFTER vikinginferno will be tradepeja which means we all might as well go to bed and wait for him to time out...

Maurice "The Enforcer" Lucas

1031_large.jpg

This guy is pretty much the original enforcer, but he was much more than that. He was a great all around defender and he was also great at blocking, rebounding, and scoring, but his scoring won't be the focal point on my team. He is well known for sticking up for his teammate by tussling with Darryl Dawkins and also for whooping giant center Artis Gilmore. His best statistical season is 20.2 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 block per game.

If anyone messes with any of my players, they will get something from Lucas and they will not do it again. For my team he will play the small forward and power forward position.

ABA All-Rookie Second Team (1974)

ABA All-Star (1976)
4-time NBA All-Star (1977–79, 1983)
1 NBA Championship (1977)
All-NBA Second Team (1978)
All-NBA-Defense First Team (1978)
All-NBA-Defense Second Team (1979)
Named one of the 30 Greatest Players in ABA History (1997)
Inducted into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame in 2000.

I've added the times for the clock for the current people up. bdouble013 will time out in a little less than two hours. If/when he does, either I, Jespher or SLAB (or any combination of the three) will post a new "on the clock" and send PMs...

It's not just the "second half" of the list, BTW. It's just a couple of people who aren't checking in as regularly as the rest of us.

Future draft commissioners might want to consider a period shorter than 24 hours and encourage people to send their draft picks to someone else if they think they might not be when their turn comes up...
