I could have went a number of ways with this pick. There might be some flashier names or other picks that would garner more votes from the younger generation, but taking into account the dream TEAM concept I ultimately went with West. (and besides he will also function as my GM in helping me construct the rest of my squad).
Some tidbits taken from his NBA.com bio...
Career Stats:
- Combine a deadly jump shot, tenacious defense, obsessive perfectionism, unabashed confidence, and an uncompromising will to win, and you've got Jerry West
- He was an All-Star every year of his career and led Los Angeles to the NBA Finals nine times
- Many players have been tagged with the nickname "Mr. Clutch," but none of them lived up to it as well as West did.
- In the 1965 NBA Playoffs, West averaged 40.6 ppg over 11 contests; his 46.3 ppg average against Baltimore in the division finals was a record for a six-game series.
- In the 1969 NBA Finals against Boston, West became the only member of a losing team ever to win the Finals MVP Award.
- West was named to the All-NBA First Team 10 times in his career, and he was selected to the NBA All-Defensive First Team in four of his final five seasons (all defensive team did not exist in his first 6 years of playing)

Bryant is a shooting guard who is capable of playing the small forward position. He is considered one of the most complete players in NBA history,[130] has been elected to every All-NBA Team since 1999, and has been featured in the last eleven NBA All-Star games.[3] Sports writers and sports casters have frequently compared Bryant to Michael Jordan, a comparison he doesn't like being made.[131] He is a prolific scorer, averaging 25.2 points per game for his career, along with 4.6 assists, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.5 steals.[132] He is known for his ability to create shots for himself, and is an adept outside shooter, sharing the single-game NBA record for three pointers made with twelve.[133] Bryant is often cited as one of the most prolific scorers in NBA history,[134] though his 45.5% career field goal average is considered moderate. He has exceptional ball handling skills, utilizes his speed and athletic ability to elude defenders to finish at the basket. Aside from this, he is also a standout defender, having made the All-Defensive first and second team eight of the last nine seasons.[3] After having been represented by Tellem, Kobe is now represented by Rob Pelinka
Well I am picking one of the best defensive centers ever in the game. I also admire his personality. He would be the perfect fit with Kobe chemistry wise.
