I'm just interested to see how we address our SF woes. You don't need a shotblocker quite as much if you have good perimeter defense, and the good thing about adding Robinson is we should get better at finishing defensive possessions by getting the rebounds. I hope that he knows his offensive touches are not going to be a priority though. Btw can someone fill me in on what happened with his family?

I generally agree with 99.9% of your posts, but I think you're getting a little grumpy with old age.
Brick, my advice is to relax for tonight. People aren't going to want to analyse team needs properly until the adrenaline has subsided and expectations come back to reality.
I like the pick, but the reality is that our roster does not fit at the moment. It's a legitimate criticism that we haven't adressed any needs. I'm glad we took Robinson, but more moves need to be made. We can't continue ignoring shot-blocking and defense in general. We certainly have a talented enough core, but now we need to be smart and get in our defensive role-players and vets. Do this and we are certainly competing for a PO spot. It's a lot to ask as of now, however, and I'm not sure I have faith in GP to pull off the necessary moves.
With the addition of Robinson, trading Thornton becomes much more easy. Robinson won't demand 20 shots a game, but he can score some. Even with a dropoff from trading Thornton for defense, we'll still score enough. Scoring has not been the problem. It's stopping the other team. We won't be respectable as a team until we seriously address defense.
I'm still wondering if we may be involved in a trade with Charlotte. I mean, they got MKG, we got TRob.. If I were Charlotte and I knew Cleveland wasn't picking TRob, then I'd pick MKG and then work out a trade with SAC. If that didn't work out, the Cats would have a good player and the pressure would be on the Kings to see if they wanted MKG more than TRob.

NOTE to all that want us to trade and pick a SF. The last thing I want is another SF to crowd the bench at that postion. We need to get into a win now mode and trade for a SF or sign one and Robinson isn't going to start from day one as some may think. Best case scenerio for us right now is trade Hayes get lowry and go after SF with trade of Thorton or as a free agent. and yes keep JT he is a great 3rd big and whiteside is better shot blocker than anybody drafted tonight.

My question is why you don't think Robinson addresses some of those defensive concerns? He's a great rebounder. He's a great man-defender. He works his *** off. All are tremendously important to playing great defense and great team defense. The reality is that only 2 players had the ability to step on the court and totally change the defensive culture of a team. And they went #1 and #2
I absolutely agree that we cannot be done though. NOW is the time we go find players that fit, even if we lose out on talent. IT-Reke-T-Rob-Cousins is a playoff core. Now it's about filling strong defensive role players and floor spacers around them to build a playoff team

IT and T Rob are defensive question marks due to size. I have never seen a good defensive team without some sort of shotblocking presence.
Well yup, I could live with that. I hope we move Thornton for a better SF than Twill though. My main concern is that Smart will try too hard to utilise Robinson's offensive prowess, resulting in an even more chaotic offense with too few shots for everyone.

If they don't use him a lot, it will end up being a terrible trade for them.
They could of had Jeremy Lamb with the 12th pick.

I agree with all that and it's pretty much what I had posted, I think. The money/mins factor is why I immediately said this means JT is gone, or at least should be, and now our 3rd big need to be a defender/shotblocker. I also agree with you on how Petrie has gone about getting shotblockers in the past with too many other bigs eating their mins, and then he lets them walk.
IMO, JT is now gone, or damn well should be, and Chuck should be included in a trade to make way for a new 3rd big, or we sign one/acquire one and Chuck turn into the clear 4th big with spot mins. I do think TRob will surprise some with his man defense, and now we really need better defenders next to Reke at the 1 and 3, or 2 and 3 depending on where Reke plays next year.

Do you not remember the Kings of 2001-2002? One of the top teams in opp fg% and they didn't have an elite level shot blocker in the starting lineup. Webber was fringe elite (1.5-2 I think that year?).
IT plays great D for his size. He was one of the league leader in opp fg%
Robinson is known for his D so I am not sure where you are getting your information.

They certainly have been when their rim protectors are healthy, and they have been better than us defensively EVERY SINGLE YEAR. Your cluelessness about defense is jsut ridiculous. More because you are so stubborn about it than because you started off ignorant.

I suspect that they just use him for the year of his contract and then let him go. Henson will have a year of being behind Dally. If Henson actually starts, then they screwed up and might need to trade Daly.

The Bulls and Jazz come to mind. Depending on who plays the 3, and the role MT plays, it is still possible for this team. But it would take Reke to become what we expect on D.
If Hayes can be turned into a shot blocking 4th big, that would be nice though. Whiteside might still be around too.

Have to wonder if we could get Udoh for something cheap. I'm very imrpessed with his defense in spurts, and think he'd be a good 3rd big if we can't acquire a more proven defender. Would probably fit our owners as well if JT is let go.

What screwed us last year in regards to D was playing MT at SG, and Evans at SF.
What will improve that? Play Evans at SG and start TWILL at SF.. Problem solved.

You asked and you got an answer.. So teams with great players don't need to worry about shot blockers?
Does that mean that teams without great players need shot blockers? If we don't have great players we wouldn't make any noise anyway. So if I had a choice I would rather take a great player than a mediocre shot blocker.
Also, the Kings didn't have an elite shot blocker in their 2001-2002 team. Vlade/Webb/Peja/Christie/Bibby.
